The Federation of Master Builders is the largest trade association for the UK construction industry and a not-for-profit organisation that is run by members for members.
We support small and medium-sized construction companies to grow and manage their business by providing a wide range of support services such as contract templates, unlimited expert advice, online training, and access to a community of fellow professional builders.
Our members must pass an independent inspection and strict vetting process before they join the FMB to ensure they meet the high standards expected of a Master Builder company.
We also connect clients with professional, local builders they can trust through our free Find a Builder service. Our series of ultimate guides for home renovation projects helps clients to understand what to expect during a building project.

Lindsey was fantastic during my experience in mediation with a difficult client. She was clear in the options and was very available for support.
In my case the mediation worked and I received full payment for the project in question.
Thank you again!

I got a very prompt fixed quote to install a Velux window in my chalet bungalow from Dan Tiplady of Tiplady Gray, Brighton. Within two weeks three very polite young men arrived promptly and completed the job within a day. A callback to Dan regarding a slight realignment of some tiles surroundingthe opening was immediately dealt with the next day, fitting new tiles. I feel this company is proud of its customer service, and I have no hesitation in recommending Dan and his team, and would be happy to consider them for any future projects

AEA construction have just completed remodelling our hallway and downstairs bathroom. The project was complex and involved partially demolishing one wall, building another, rotating a boiler 90 degrees to move it from one wall on to another, and then constructing a cupboard around the boiler using a previously demolished cupboard of the wrong size! The team of craftsmen were skilful and professional. The project was coordinated and managed expertly and we were informed about who would arrive when to do what throughout. Communication can be poor on build projects, in our experience, so it was wonderful to have excellent communication as well as superb craftsmanship.

Don’t be fooled by the FMB logo. It is a meaningless sticker that provides a false sense of security while housing "rogue" cowboy standards. I hired an FMB-accredited firm with the trustmark badge expecting professional craftsmanship; I received amateur workmanship, crooked installations, and a total lack of basic technical skill.
Worst of all is the FMB itself. They claim to offer a dispute resolution process, but in reality, they have zero actual leverage over their members. They act as a toothless middleman with no influence to force a contractor to rectify even the most obvious defects. It is a pay-to-play marketing club, not a regulatory body.
If you hire through their directory, you are on your own.
My bathroom is a catalogue of irreversible blunders - misaligned tiles, wonky fixtures, and poor planning - and the FMB badge did nothing to prevent it or fix it. Do not trust this accreditation; it is a sham that offers zero protection against incompetence.
