Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 69 reviews, most reviewers were somewhat happy with their experience overall. Many customers appreciate the excellent customer service, highlighting professional and helpful interactions when issues arise. Reviewers often praise the repairability of some products, which extends their lifespan and aligns with sustainability values. Some also commend the quality and reliability of certain items, with some products lasting many years. However, a significant number of people express dissatisfaction with the high price of products, feeling they do not always match the expected quality or durability. Many report issues with product longevity, with appliances failing prematurely, and find that repair costs can be almost as much as buying a new item. There are also concerns about inconsistent product quality, including poor build, malfunctioning switches, and uneven toasting, leading to disappointment. Some customers also note that certain models are not repairable, contradicting the company's reputation for repairability, and have experienced long wait times for repairs.

Brilliant spares service

Brilliant spares service. I have a 15 year old Dualit kettle. The spout filter failed. Dualit answered my query within a couple of hours, provided order details and sent me a replacement filter for £3, including postage. Then sent me a follow up receipt via the post. Dualit products may be more expensive, but they last and Dualit are happy to provide ongoing support. Absolutely brilliant - and pretty unique in this throw-away age. Other firms need to learn from them

Very disapointing quality for Dualit now made in China

We bought a Classic kettle a few years ago. Very disappointed to see Dualit have sold out like all the others -they misleadingly display the union jack prominently on the packaging but weasel words say "engineered" in UK. However product made in China probably very cheaply yet they still charge an arm and a leg for it. Lo and behold a few years later after the kettle has been failing to switch off when boiling for 9 months it has no failed completely. Not the plug/power source or fuse. Not water scale as our water is incredibly soft do things don't scale up here. I've read on line they only last 3 years some less. So sad as other UK made products like our toaster and coffee grinder have lasted donkeys years. won't be buying them any more. Well done Dualit, that's what you get for subcontracting out to cheap Chinese producers, in the long run it will do you irreparable harm. I hope it was worth it.

Thank you for your comments. We are sorry to hear that you are having issues with your Classic kettle. The Classic kettle is designed to be repairable. Should you want it repaired then we would recommend contacting customer services for advice. The Classic kettle (like other Dualit appliances) is designed, developed and tested in the UK. The actual production of the kettle is carried out in a Chinese factory to our specifications. Best regards Dualit

Good product - lacklustre customer service

Bought a bean to cup machine back in November. As expected, a lovely well built machine and compared to other makes, really good value. Loved the machine and the coffee, even posting a five star review

Last month, the machine started to spew water and coffee out the nozzle head. The machine was always properly cleaned and descaled so unlikely to be a blockage

Contacted customer services via email. No reply. Used contact form and also follow up email. No apology for delay in replying just curtly told they deal with emails in order. My suggestion that they put an auto reply out to at least confirm they’ve got the message was ignored … every other company does this so not sure why Dualit can’t

The response was descale the machine (even though they’d been advised this had been done) and to poke cocktail sticks in the nozzle … did this still spewing water

Customer service agreed to collect machine and get it looked at and said the repair would be ‘fast tracked’

It was the Easter period so expected some delay but a week later still hadn’t had an update

Contacted customer service again … day later had a reply saying they’d chased this up with the repairs department who would be sending out a replacement

- no explanation as to what had gone wrong with the original machine
- no explanation as to why customer service don’t check on the progress themselves
- no apology about faulty machine

I dealt with the same representative throughout and their approach seems to be defensive, not accepting of feedback and not fully understanding what excellent customer service should look like

A goodwill gesture for the inconvenience would have been nice … some coffee perhaps … but nothing … no explanation, no ‘sorry we could have done better’

A good machine, but alas would no longer recommend Dualit due to their customer service

Perhaps I was unlucky with the person I dealt with

Kettle and Toaster ready for landfill after only 2 years of use

I purchased both the Dualit Lite Kettle and Toaster at end of 2011, both items are no longer fit for purpose, just after the warranty expired they started to not work properly. The Dualit Lite kettle will not turn off, I have followed the trouble shooting methods on Dualit website but it still will not turn off, I also purchased a spare part to repair but Dualit parts are not universal. The Dualit toaster never toasted evenly to start with, unfortunately both are destined for the recycle and landfill. First time I have purchased Dualit, my last Russel Hobbs toaster and kettle lasted over 8 years. Dualit are over priced and not premium quality as you might expect. And it would be nice if a company offered a repair service, such a waste of resources.

Have/had many Dualit toasters

Have/had many Dualit toasters, kettles etc. The 7 year old kettles perspex side gauges started to crack so bought a new on last month but its so very noisy compared to the old one yet is identical model.
Very disappointing, sounds like a combustion engine on a bad day.

Update to review.

Update to review.
Further to a previous 1 star review about the Dualit Long Lite Toaster, having had 2 in 2.5 years which failed, Dualit replied asking me to contact them.

They asked me to return the latest toaster to fail, and although the whole process is a little time consuming etc. Dualit did replace the toaster, even though it was just outside their guarantee period. How long this one lasts remains to be seen, but the product does perform well when working, and Dualit I think give a 6 month grace period after a guarantee has expired where they will repair/replace a faulty product it seems. Only wish I'd realised it when my first one broke!

Exceptional Customer Service.

We had a problem with our refurbished Lite toaster . Called customer service and was immediately answered by a friendly member of staff, who after checking the problem promptly came back with some options. It left an impression that we were valued customers and that the our query was important to Dualit, so we decided to upgrade to a Classic Toaster. Will definitely recommend to family and friends.

Dreadfully inefficient repairs function!

I’ve just read a review from a frustrated customer whose expensive Dualit Classic kettle developed a faulty switch when only just out of warranty - i feel your pain, and have learned the same expensive lesson the hard way re these Dualit products! That customer was wise to just purchase another kettle and decline the suggestion to mail the item to Dualit and potentially pay around £54 for a repair. My classic kettle developed exact same switch fault (doesn’t cut out when water boils - has to be manually switched off every time). I, regrettably, sent mine into their repair team and thus far have experienced the following;
-there are no local repair depts (i live in NWest England) so you have to package the kettle up and pay a significant carriage fee to get it delivered to Sussex
-it then takes them 2 days from receiving it (i have delivery date from Royal Mail tracking) to ‘log it on their system’
- from this point onward they tell you it could be a turn around time of up to 21 working days ( so probably nearer 4 weeks in terms of total real-time wait)
- not forgetting of course, this is just the time taken to inspect and produce a concluding report/confirm your repair fee. Presumably they will then be contacting me asking do i want to proceed - lord knows what the total wait will be in terms of actually getting a working kettle back in my possession.

Customers considering buying one of these overpriced kettles please heed this advice - if anything goes wrong with your kettle, even if it’s under warranty - this is the kind of endurance you will be facing.

My strong recommendation is to steer well clear!

Save your money and buy a cheapie!

Being fed up with mass-market toasters which toast bread unevenly and work erratically when heated up from cold -- we like our second slice -- we decided to splash out and buy Dualit.

Big mistake. It worked fairly well for a few months but now it toasts one side of the bread and not the other. We're reduced to turning the slices halfway through.

Just as an experiment we brought our ancient Morphy Richards from our attic reserve. Eight years old and it performs just as well as the Dualit. Much over rated and over priced in our view.

I'm surprised to see that Duralit…

I'm surprised to see that Duralit toasters are still experiencing sticking timers which could burn your house down. Looking at reviews, the kettles are just as bad.

These items may be assembled in the UK but the timers are sourced outside the UK and seem of poor quality. I have a similar timer fitted to a Mazzer coffee bean grinder and it has been used several times a day for over 10 years without a problem. My duality one has failed and when it fails it fails unsafe.

Still, it's good to see that Duralit have finally acknowledged this problem and now advise people to stand over their toaster whilst using it, and disconnect it from the mains when not in use - really, who unplugs their toaster after every use?

Thank you for your comments. We are sorry to hear that you have experienced this problem with your Dualit Classic toaster.
As a responsible manufacturer, all Dualit products undergo rigorous testing and approvals and this particular design has been manufactured by Dualit, using similar controls, since 1955.
The Timer units we use in these toasters are manufactured for us by an industry renowned French company and are the highest quality of its kind that we can source. Unfortunately, any mechanical part is susceptible to wear & tear, similar to the brake shoes on a car, for example.

It is for this reason that we have always stipulated in our Instruction Manual that the appliance is not left unattended during use and is switched off at the socket when not in use. In addition, an 'Unplug After Use' - Fire Risk notification is now printed on the front of the timer knob.

All toasters sold in Europe and North America (regardless of brand) are classified as an ‘Attended Appliance’, not by us but by international approval bodies and the international safety standards which govern small electrical appliances including toasters.

Since 2014, we have patented and put into production on all commercial & domestic toasters a thermal protection device which will cause the toaster to shut off if it detects that it is overheating. This can now be retro fitted to older Classic toaster models too. However, this device will not prevent unattended bread from burning in the event of a malfunction.

Put simply, toasting bread is the process of applying heat to a combustible substance and therefore, care & attention must always be taken when using a toaster. This applies to any make or model of toaster.

The Classic toaster is fully repairable and faulty components can be replaced if need be. Best regards Dualit.

Amazing what it cannot do

I have a two-slice toaster that decided to misbehave. Even on high setting it doesn't toast my bread or when it does it only toasts one side. Contacted customer service who told me that the toaster has difficulty with toasting sourdough bread, granary bread and brown bread. Practically any bread I might buy. As an experiment I tried to toast a slice from a loaf of white sliced bread, something I don't usually eat. Still no luck. The reason apparently is that it cannot toast one slice, you must toast two slices whether you want to or not.
My view is that if this toaster struggles with so many things, types of breads as well as the quantity,it should be pointed out to the customer at the point of sale.

Thank you for your comments and we are sorry that you are having issues with your toaster. There are a great many varieties of bread available these days and not all of them will toast well. The toaster does not know what is put into the slot. It just applies heat for a set amount of time. How well the bread toasts will depend on its ingredients. Depending on what the ingredients are will have an effect on the results. For example, in our research we have found that sourdough bread can be quite tricky to toast effectively whilst gluten free bread just does not toast very well at all due to its density.

From your description, it sounds as though you may have one of the models that does not have the individual slot selector. On this model toaster, the slots cannot be set to work independently of each other. The ejector lever activates both slots at the same time.

If you are toasting 1 slice of bread in this toaster, this means that there will be an empty active slot with nothing in it to absorb the heat generated. Most of the heat will be lost but some of it will be absorbed by the bread in the adjacent slot leading to uneven toasting. We call this heat transfer. This can only be avoided by toasting either 2 slices which would mean that there would be no empty but active slots.

Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience

Best regards Dualit

Great service

Our Dualit kettle has been on the go for a few years and recently we noticed a problem with the window glass. My husband contacted Dualit to ask about a replacement part. They said they couldn’t provide this part but offered to repair the kettle free of charge if we posted it to their service department. After a week we got the kettle back in good order (glass on both sides had been replaced) and it had been polished as well - looks brand new. I think this was fantastic service. We also have a Dualit toaster which has far outlasted any other toaster we’ve ever bought. I would not hesitate to buy a Dualit product again.

I bought a Dualit Kettle because I…

I bought a Dualit Kettle because I understood it was manufactured in the UK but have now discovered it was made in China. Having been disappointed with a range of Kitchen Aid products which we understood were made in the USA and after purchase, discovered they were also made in China. Products made in China are poor and do not last long. Very disappointed.

Thank you for your reply Dualit Company. Too many products are made badly in China from clothing to other products. The Dualit kettle we bought will not become unsightly as it is not coated with enamel by Kitchen Aid, which is all wearing off. This Dualit kettle is stainless steel and we hope will last us for several years. We have planned to purchase a toaster but only if it is made in UK as the Kitchen Aid toaster has been enamelled, also. Thank you.

I expected better…

I bought a DUALIT 1.5ltr kettle model JKT43 about 2 years ago. About 3 weeks ago I noticed water underneath the kettle after it had boiled. After inspection I found a leak in the window on the side of the kettle.
I researched this and found other customers had had similar issues. When I rang customer services they told me the kettle was not repairable and because the warranty had expired they could only offer me a discount on a new kettle as a good will gesture. I asked if this was a common problem and the agent did say there had been similar complaints about this kettle.

Sold a dud via the reconditioned toaster scheme

We bought a reconditioned toaster from Dualit in 2022 because we thought it would be high quality and repairable. It arrived not working and we've had problems with it on and off ever since. It's now on its second visit back to Dualit for repairs and we've just received a bill for £70 in parts and labour to fix it. Have decided to give up and buy a Rowlett toaster instead. One extra star because the Dualit customer services people are nice!

Dualit - unsafe product

Paid approx. £130 for a kettle. Bought on the premise that it could be repaired economically and sustainably. So far 2 repairs. £50 per repair and in fact all other kettled we have owned have easily out lasted this one. But only that they were significantly cheaper. Customer Service did not seems to grasp why I was so disappointed.
Product fell short short of high expectations for a kettle at this price point.
In my opinion the kettle was not safe at all and did not turn off once boiling, filling our kitchen with steam. Intermittently the kettle would turn off before boiling.

Dear Dualit, your response confirms why I will not buy into your brand again. Why would a thermostat be required if the kettle is classed as an attended appliance? A thermostat is therefore a safety device in the eventuality of non attendance. The thermostat is a very basic part of the kettle, yet this is a common point of failure in your product. Irrespective of the guarantee period Dualit are responsible for the product in the market place which does not meet basic requirements and reasonable expectations. I will not buy into a brand which overlooks their product safety responsibilities.

3 in 1 Coffee Machine doesn't last a year

Bought a coffee machine from them. The first machine started leaking after 18months. I initially assumed I wasn't descaling it enough so I bought another machine, exactly the same.
This time descaled it monthly. Almost at the year mark, stars to leak but I sent it to Dualit as it was under warranty. They didn't open the machine and want to charge me for the repair as claim I didn't descale it properly.

Thank you for your comments. We are sorry to hear that you have experienced this issue with your 3 in 1 machine. Our engineers examination (which includes an internal inspection as standard) showed that one of the water pipes was blocked with scale. Failure of the machine through a fault of manufacture or material is covered by warranty. Issues caused by outside influence that can be prevented by essential cleaning & maintenance are not covered. Given the discovered root cause of the issue, this would be chargeable.
