Rented a car thst showed service needed after i started driving. Customer service was very ride would not gove name and stated she could not help…

Rented SUV to go out of town to doctor appointment. Drove sUV off the lot at the rental and right away, a warning light came on, saying that needed to be service contacted the dollar rental car on the phone. The lady was very rude would not help would not give me her name, just hung app on me and said I would have to go back to the rental. Company and hope to get another rental car if one is available. Are you 70 miles from the rental place? And she wouldn't even give me the phone number to call the Fresno. Dollar rent a card because she cannot have the number so they expected me to drive a car that needed to be serviced out of town. A new assistant on getting me another available car, they are very rude and not very friendly and they do not care if their cars need to be serviced or not, I don't think I would have been a car from there ever again. And if the car breaks down, you are responsible for it, if you don't kick out their own insurance\n I hope dollar and I'll return to my text here because I want them to know how rude they were and no, it's just I'm helping me get a different car. I've not would not refer refer anybody to this rental car place. The people at the airport were very nice. But the online were supposed to call the very rude just to hang up on you and they didn't care if you broke down or not

Beware of the two cam scam

Beware of the two cam scam! I recently rented a car from Dollar and was guided through two separate cameras, one for the exit and a different one for the return. It would have been more cost effective and fair for the company to guide renters through the same camera upon exit and return. The only reason to use two separate cameras is to set the first at low resolution and the second at high resolution to see things the first camera does not. They tell me that I owe them $500.00 for a windshield which I inspected an saw nothing. Before you rent a car, go and look at the rental bay, if you see one camera, this seems fair, but if you see two separate cameras, beware the two cam scam!! Rent at your own peril. Thanks Hertz/Dollar/Thrifty I won't be seeing you again or any company who practices this scam!

Good Experience - Portugal (Faro)

Reserved a car from dollar and had an easy experience picking it up. Staff were very friendly and did not try and push any extras unlike some other rental companies. Very smooth and easy return experience too so would use again.

Dollar Car Rental / Hertz is a GARBAGE

Dollar Car Rental / Hertz is a GARBAGE. The Orlando Sanford International Airport location is a perfect example of how SHITTY this company is.

It took us over half an hour dealing with an incompetent girl to get a rental car, and we needed assistance from the local police. In the end, we switched to AVIS, which was the same price AND took less than 5 minutes to rent a car.

Long story short. We made a reservation a week before the trip to the SFB airport in Orlando, FL for a mid-size SUV. However... once we arrived to Dollar kiosk, the girl with a teenage face told us that they had no car available at the rate we rented the car for. She told us with a smile that for an extra $35 daily, she can upgrade us to a Volvo. We declined and asked for a manager's assistance - she refused to call the manager. We asked for help renting a more affordable car, as they advertise - she refused. We asked again for the manager - she said that he is not present.

We did create a new reservation online. The audacity in Dollar Car rental must be on sale, because she refused to further assist us and asked us to leave, but this time - we REFUSED. This immature girl called 911, and an officer had to come and explain to her how to do her job. She almost cried. My wife, meanwhile, made a reservation at AVIS, and after a half-hour nightmare at Dollar / Hertz Rental in SFB, we got a car in a few minutes from AVIS.

When we were leaving Dollar / Hertz Car Rental and the officer left, the girl was screaming at us that I can go ahead and call a corporate and make a complaint. I am not sure if she is mentally impaired or just had her period, but we didn't ask. However, I did make two phone calls to Dollar Car Rental customer care after we returned from the vacation. Each time a Dollar rep hangs up on me. So you can see how Dollar / Hertz cares about the quality of their service.

Our advice is to avoid unrealistic prices and GARBAGE service at Dollar / Hertz Car Rental, as it may ruin your vacation. You know what they say, you get what you pay for. Our best bet for renal is go to AVIS and have peace of mind. Attached, you can find a photo of the mental girl who needed the police to explain here what she is being paid for. Hope it helps.

Horrific experience

I reserved a car for my daughter and her boyfriend through Dollar Rent a Car at Orlando International Airport. The reservation was from January 3 -January 11th 2026.
When they arrived at the reservation desk they were told that they had to purchase additional insurance. She denied the insurance as they have rental insurance through their own vehicle AND I had already paid for supplemental insurance when I booked the car. They explained this to the employee. He insisted that they HAD to purchase insurance from Dollar. He told them they could not take the car unless they purchased their insurance. She again explained that they had insurance. She showed him the email confirming the extra insurance. He continued to insist that they could not take the vehicle. My daughter finally called me. By this time the employee was actively yelling at her. I was not on speaker and he was yelling so loud that my boyfriend could hear him yelling from across our room.
She handed the phone to him and I told him that we were NOT going to buy the insurance. He argued with me for several minutes telling me that the insurance I purchased would not cover anything! He said that they had to purchase insurance from Dollar. I refused again and again.
When my daughter took back the phone I could hear him yelling that they were going to get into a horrible accident and were going to be sued!! I was actually afraid for them to drive the car as I was afraid he or someone else would sabotage the car.
This was by far the worst experience I have ever had with someone in customer service. The employee was threatening customers!

Red flags

In August 2025, I made a reservation with Dollar Rent A Car and paid a USD 830 deposit for a rental scheduled for December 23.

Due to force majeure circumstances, I cancelled the reservation approximately two weeks before the pickup date. At the time of cancellation, I was clearly informed that there would be no penalty and that the full amount would be refunded.

More than two months passed and no refund was issued.

When I contacted customer service, I was told that I had been placed on a “blacklist” and that I needed to pay USD 450 to be removed from that list in order to receive my refund. This request raised serious red flags and appeared highly irregular and inappropriate.

I refused to make that payment. Later, I received a response stating that my refund would not be processed, despite the previous confirmation that it would.

This experience has been deeply concerning and extremely disappointing. The lack of transparency, inconsistent information, and the request for additional money in order to release a confirmed refund raise serious concerns about the company’s business practices.

I strongly advise potential customers to exercise extreme caution before booking with this company.

I will never use their services again.

Dollar Alice Springs sent us out in a…

Dollar Alice Springs sent us out in a car without the full equipement to change a tyre. In a 40 degree heat, changing a tyre without the crank handle was very hard. We had only driven 103 km in the car. They replaced both front tyres as the other was worn- probably why ours punctured. 25km out of Alice there is no phone signal. We were fortunate we were not that far out when the puncture happened- although on our way there. On arriving at the airport they also tried to say that we had a limited km booking. We didn't. They also gave us what they considered to be an upgrade as they didn't have the car we booked. We booked a lovely toyota corolla- or similar. Does around 60 mpg. They gave us a great big car- 38 mpg. When travelling as far as we did this was a big difference in fuel cost. We booked Dollar here as it had good reviews. MMMMM

Dollar car rental rort

We booked a car through Dollar Car rentals in Byron Bay.
It’s also a Hertz business.
While we saw there was an extra charge of $25 per extra driver when booking I thought that was normal as I don’t usually hire cars.
When we picked up the car, the 2 extra drivers were $50. Upon reading the comprehensive insurance policy they don’t charge extra for additional drivers so this extra cost is an unnecessary rort.
Booking through a booking site as we did ( Booking.com) was also a pain when we wanted to extend a day as we would have had to go through the booking site again.
We changed to the hertz rental and it was easier.
Don’t use Dollar and book direct is my advice

I rented a car at Dollar through…

I rented a car at Dollar through Priceline. When I went to pick it up, the guy at the counter told me he could beat Priceline price and offered me a better deal. When I received my credit card statement, I was charged with for both. When I talked with the customer service agent, he told me it was an additional charge for the card above the original Priceline. I was flat out lied to by the counter agent. I will never use Dollar, Hertz or Thrifty again regardless of their deals

Worst ever experience with Dollar car rental Liberia, costarica

Worst ever experience with car rental, upon returning the car the employee was asking me if I had changed my car or upgraded it during the rental and I said NO, turned out that they gave me a document for a car rental with a license plate and the actual rental car was with a different license plate !!!!???
The big Hit they charged me $1220US as a security deposit that turned out its for additional insurance when I had already paid for a full coverage insurance with the rental price for $1633CAN for 18 Days, which I consider a scam.
Something is wrong their office has Dollar and Thrifty car rental signs, you rent from Dollar car rental, you get the agreement with Dollar, but the $1220US that supposed to be a security deposit was charged /paid to Hurts car rental.
When we were arguing with them about it and it does not make a since to have to pay for a rental with a full coverage $1633CAN and to have an additional insurance for $1220US, the office manager told us this is wat you got and if you don't like it will call the police for you, what an attitude and customer experience.

Horrible Experience

My experience was horrid. Car smelled like weed, tires were horrendous so we slid everywhere and they gave us the smallest vehicle they had - my husband was very uncomfortable the entire trip. Our trip was a month ago - I make this point to say that I've been promised a $60 credit for an ENTIRE MONTH AND STILL HAVE YET TO RECEIVE IT! I called over a week ago regarding this issue, spent over 30 minutes on the phone and the agent tried to get me to hold yet again until I told her enough! I've made at least 5 calls to them regarding these issues, spent probably 2 hrs. on the phone overall and still have yet to receive the credit. I am furious and at this point, think I deserve a complete refund. I will NEVER use this company again and highly recommend that others refrain from using them as well.

Not sure why it's called Dollar rental

Not sure why it's called Dollar rental. I'm assuming it's because they leave you with only a dollar left in your pocket. I made a reservation a week prior to get an email two days before my scheduled pick up regarding the payment policy. So, in order to rent a car from these companies, you need to have around $700.00 on the side, plus the rental fee. $200 from your credit card and $500 from your debit card. Along with a credit check and the best part is, you can't use your debit card to pay for the reservation, only a credit card. I'd rather take a cab to travel.

Huge extra charges to change plans

During our use of the car we experienced a death in our family. That changed our return home flight plans so we asked to return the car to Stockton CA instead of Sacramento Airport. It took 3 separate phone calls & almost 4 hours of talking to make the change. First Dollar said it would cost $1800, then $900, then $500 which we finally desperately accepted. Dollar said the car would have to be towed, that's why it cost so much. It was a terrible experience with uncaring "corporate policies" ruling the day. Do not recommend!

Their customer service knows nothing

Their customer service knows nothing. I called to change my vehicle and was told it wasn't possible. I then researched, found out I can do it if it's before 24 hours, but at that point it was not. It definitely was the first time.

Know your policies or just don't have customer service.

I am a bit frustrated

I am a bit frustrated with Priceline and Dollar Car Rental as I rented a car and then received the notice that my brother would be getting married during that time. I went to cancel my reservation and I was told that I couldn't get a refund. This is months in advance from my trip, I have received no service from you, but I am being told I still have to pay hundreds of dollars still. All over the site scrolling it states Free Cancellations, and I got to cancel and I am told well it's not free cancellations for your car. Also at checkout from my memory I recall selecting pay at pickup and the first email notification I received showed me of my reservation and shortly after I get another email stating the full charge had been made.
This is so dishonest. I am a bit frustrated. If I had received any services I wouldn't be so annoyed, but you have done nothing for me and it is months before I will even be using the car.

Reservation refused

Despite having a confirmed and valid reservation, the rental was refused at the counter at Saint-Pancras Station in London (UK) by agent José on the grounds that I allegedly failed an internal “background check” related to my address, solely because I have been resident in the UK for less than six months. I hold a valid passport, justification of address, international credit card, an "address background check" was neither clearly stated nor communicated to me at the time of booking. And by the way, I booked with Hertz already 6 months ago with an international address with no issue at all !
Jose was unhelpful and refused to propose alternative solution to resolve his issue. He was rude and asked me to leave, without proposing any refund (I booked through a 3rd party)
As a result of this last-minute refusal, which was entirely beyond my control, I was forced to secure an alternative rental immediately with another agency just next desk in order to continue my journey. This alternative agency raised no issue whatsoever regarding my address or recent UK residency.
This situation makes no sense at all, Jose refused to admit it and instead chose to made my experience and journey start with the most unbelievable car rental experience I’ve ever had, after having rented dozens of cars all over the world.
