We recently visited Trewartha Cottage

We recently visited Trewartha Cottage, Mithian, St Agnes. This is a lovely cottage with everything we needed. Comfy beds, good shower and plenty of room. Cornish Gems are a great company to deal with, very friendly, helpful and efficient. We will use them again and we highly recommend them as a great company to use.

Kres Kintyre, Carbis Bay. A Stunning Holiday Home

We recently holidayed at Kres Kintyre and had a wonderful, relaxing time. It is a stylish, contemporary, spacious and open plan house, on the seaward side of Carbis Bay. The property has fabulous sea views, with opening bifold windows that bring the outside into the living area. The view overlooks the Cornish coastline of Gwithian and Hayle with an amazing view of Godrevy Lighthouse in the distance.
The interiors are gorgeous! The property has recently had a ‘make over’ and the furnishings are stunning. They have a stylish, beachy feel and it’s very comfortable. The house lends itself to chilled out days and evenings, sitting around, having a few glasses of something special, enjoying the views and each other’s company. Bliss !
Kres Kintyre is well equipped with everything we needed to feel at home. All the bedrooms are tastefully decorated and the beds are very comfy. The house was spotless when we arrived and felt very welcoming.
We were just a few minutes walk from Carbis Bay train station which regularly transported us on the scenic route to St Ives. It only took 3 minutes by train and the views were amazing. We also walked the coastal path to St Ives several times and enjoyed the views very much. However, it was nice to hop back on the train and enjoy the tranquility of Carbis Bay !
In the mornings we walked our dog down to Carbis Bay beach. It’s a gorgeous beach and we thoroughly enjoyed having a coffee at the Deli after our walk along the beach.
The cars stayed in the two ample car parking spaces for most of the holiday, as we enjoyed the area so much ! Carbis Bay is a beautiful area and has lots of restaurants within walking distance. It was a lovely, relaxing holiday and we will definitely book again with Cornish Gems.

After booking and paying a deposit for…

After booking and paying a deposit for a property in March 2023, we were looking forward to our holiday in June 2024.
Unfortunately in mid December 2023 we had an e-mail from Cornish Gems informing us that our booking was going to be cancelled due to the fact that the owners of the property were selling up and the property was no longer available. To say we were disappointed is an understatement.
The agents we dealt with at Cornish Gems were always friendly and polite and I know to some extent that the circumstances of the cancellation was out of their control. I just wanted people to be made aware that this can happen. I, maybe naively, thought once you paid the deposit your booking was guaranteed.

Hi Susan, we're so sorry this happened, unfortunately it's out of our control if an owner decides to sell their property and not honour the existing bookings - we try everything we can to prevent that from happening but unfortunately it didn't work out on this occasion. We're also sorry that our other properties that we could offer for your party size weren't quite right for you all. Do get back in touch if you decide to revisit any of the other options we have available. Again, we're deeply sorry this has happened on this occasion, and hope that you find an alternative way to enjoy Cornwall this Spring. Our Guest Experience team are available on the other end of the phone should you want to discuss further.
Many thanks.

Sun Up is wonderful

We loved our stay at Sun Up. The apartment is modern, super clean and very well maintained. The apartment is close to the path, beach & train. We walked into St Ives several times. It’s also a good location for exploring other parts of Cornwall.
During our stay, we had issues with our car. Katie, from Cornish Gems, was wonderful helping us to add additional days onto our stay at the last minute.

POOR SERVICE from Cornish Gems & BAD…

POOR SERVICE from Cornish Gems & BAD Neighbours. We stayed at a Cornish Gems ‘The Haven’ house in June 2023. We paid £5500 for a week, and the house was gorgeous.
Firstly, the house was in great condition (minus a few things i will comment on later), it was very clean, and the standard of cleaning and hygiene was brilliant, couldn’t fault it. The location of the house was also good, a 15 minute walk to Carbis Bay beach down a little track once we figured out which way as it wasn’t very clear.
There is a little steam train by the beach which takes you through a scenic route to St Ives, which is another beautiful little town, with sweet little shops, independent shops and beautiful views.
The people in these towns were lovely, very friendly and welcoming of tourists. Although there were many pluses there were also many negatives about our week away which we were very disappointed about.
Firstly, parking for The Haven was disappointing to say the least, one small space is allocated, which is a small walk (about 3 minutes) from the property, however, if you have a big car it will not fit in this allocated space and the neighbours wont be happy.. we accidentally parked slightly over the line of the allotted space and the neighbour who lives opposite the haven (an older guy who owns his property there) smashed our car windscreen with a small enough stone so that we wouldn’t know it was him- but obvious enough in his behaviour to know it was in fact actually him who did it (it was also a rental car so we ended up having to pay £1500 excess to have this fixed when we got back home). He did this on the last day of our weeks holiday.
Secondly, the property had no fans- and when we got in touch with Cornish Gems on the second day of our holiday, they said they would ‘Ask the owners to provide one’ which never actually happened so we were in 25 degree heat with no fans for a whole week which made sleeping very hard. There was cracks on the countertop island (picture provided) and the tap in the kitchen was flooding the kitchen sides every time you turned it on (also video attached for reference). Also there was a surround view of the ocean but in fact one of the doors had cling film wrapped over it which blocked one side of the entire view because it has previously smashed, we were not made aware of this PRIOR to our trip which we both agreed is unacceptable, all 3 of these things are not acceptable when you are paying a lot for a weeks holiday and are expecting the best service and accommodation.
There was holes in one of the bedrooms (we called it the purple room with the ocean view) and all of the curtains were not blackout which meant we were awoken by 4am when the sun rose in summer. Overall the house was beautiful, covered all of our needs for the week, had all the kitchen essentials that we needed, bedding was clean, and we were able to wash our clothes due to the utility. However there were little issues which really should have been resolved and rectified before we arrived for the amount we paid. Now, onto the service we received from Cornish Gems themselves as a …… or LACK OF should I say.
We did all of our booking via Cornish gems, and the service we received prior to our arrival was fairly good. They listened to all of our needs and accommodated where possible.
Upon arrival, they didn’t answer their phone (when calling regarding needing fans due to the heat) and emails took 2 days to receive a reply. When we arrived back home, Cornish Gems completely failed us. It felt like they had their ‘sale’ and had washed their hands of us. We left behind an expensive nutribullet blender machine which we took with us, and which my husband uses every day, and Cornish gems took 12 weeks to come to any resolution. It was back and forth with emails, provings, and when they had finally sent us our nutribullet which they had located, it had conveniently got lost at the post office and because they said they had sent it- it was our loss. We weren’t happy with this as we were still without it, so they said there was nothing that could be done and for us to accept it. My husband was furious and involved trading standards, to which Cornish Gems threatened their legal advice in which they didn’t have to locate any lost property once the holiday is over! We did in the end receive a brand new machine, but this was definitely not the result Cornish Gems wanted. he neighbours surrounded ‘the Haven’ were not friendly, and made it incredible difficult. We have a 6 year old daughter and once she accidentally let the gate slam from the steam train crossing and she got tutted at by the neighbour. This unfriendliness coupled with the smashed window screen on our rental car was enough to NOT return to The Haven. Overall Cornish Gems let down the quality of the holiday, neighbours made it difficult, people in the town were lovely though.

Hi Brian, thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear that you had issues with the property's neighbour and your hire car. We understand that this is an incredibly upsetting situation for you, but are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your time in Cornwall and the property more generally.

Thank you for your feedback on the property. It is great to hear that you were generally happy with The Haven, however we are of course very sorry to hear that it fell short of our usual standards on a few elements, and rest assured your feedback has been passed onto the owner so that issues may be rectified.

We are also sorry to hear that you were disappointed with our service, especially following the situation whereby the Nutribullet you brought was left in the property. As you know this was posted back to you by our team, but unfortunately got lost in transit. As a gesture of goodwill we replaced the Nutribullet at our cost, which we hope resolves the matter for you.

Please do not hesitate to reach out should you have any further queries, and we hope you enjoy the holiday season.

With all good wishes,
Cornish Gems

The Dairy, Portscatho

Second visit to this lovely cottage and we were not disappointed. The cottage is lovely, with everything you would need for a week away from it all. Loads of walks, Portscatho is a lovely village and the two pubs are wonderful. The bird feeder outside the kitchen window is a great addition - watching all of the blue/great tits flocking every morning was a real treat on the eyes and we even saw a Great spotted woodpecker! Many thanks to John and Lucie for providing such a beautiful rural escape Oh! and the lovely jam – such an unexpected welcome gift and it was delicious with toast from the loaf we got with the Cornish Food Box Company hamper we ordered! Finally, many thanks to Cornish Gems, your attention to detail is brilliant and your customer service is, as always, amazing.

Little Boseglos

Little Boseglos - over promised and under delivered.

Unfortunately, Cornish Gems failed to deliver at this property on this occasion.

The description of the property states -‘sets the scene for luxury living’. We found the property to be very clean, but luxury it is not.
It is nothing more than basic and functional with a dull under equipped kitchen illuminated by fluorescent tube bulb that needs to be kept on constantly and not a single storage cupboard and a dishwasher door that doesn’t open fully. A very basic underwhelming bathroom with low power shower. The bedroom described as having ‘luxury ambience’, ‘romantic and indulgent’ is a basic and bare white bedroom and is far removed from ‘luxury’. (Be prepared to have to shimmy around the bed from one side and watch you don’t catch the corner of the mantle piece on your way round!) One window on each side of the room. A broken one giving a view of the high street, or on the other side (admittedly out of the control of Cornish Gems or the Little Boseglos owner but never the less is the view afforded) a view of the large heavily overgrown ‘tip’ of a yard of the adjoining property. The small dark living room with damaged Roman blinds is again minimally equipped with a bundle of TV wires in one corner on the floor. The ‘sun trap’ yard gets the sun for only a short period and is covered in twigs a foliage from the overhanging church yard yew tree. Clear that mess (which I did upon arrival) and then you may then sit on the dirty old cushions, stained and spotted with bird droppings, dirt and other spills. We were very grateful to the very pleasant maintenance guy who was working on the larger house, as he did get us some better cushions from Boseglos House and also sourced some replacement lights for the back yard, (as upon arrival we found them to be broken.) As it happens we chose not to use the grubby yard.

We have never felt the need (in over 40 years of renting holiday properties) to leave one early but we left this property before the expiry of the rental period, but extended our holiday and went somewhere else that did actually deliver on promises and provide comfortable, bright accommodation.

Whilst the larger Boseglos House may be as described ( judging by photos alone), Little Boseglos is not.

Little Boseglos is of a fairly low standard and far from what we could reasonably expect (from the description) and what we have previously experienced. We were very disappointed, having been sold a fairly expensive, allegedly luxury property that was totally underwhelming and therefore grossly overpriced.

The property is VERY close to the bell tower of the adjacent church and the clock chimes loudly 24/7 disturbing sleep.

I cannot recommend this property and found the property description on the Cornish Gems site to paint a “rose coloured” picture of the reality.

VERY IMPORTANTLY, there is no escape route from the bedroom should a fire break out on the ground floor. This was raised with Cornish Gems at the time. The generic Risk Assessment contained within the property is very basic and does not take account of the layout of the specific property.

Cornish Gems was made aware of this review and stated they would respond. Well that was several months ago……

Fantastic!

We had a fantastic week at Treddinick Dairy in September. The cottage is beautiful, spacious and comfortable with wonderful views of the Cornish countryside. The cottage is really well equipped with a great kitchen/diner and comfy beds! And it was lovely to have a safe enclosed garden for our dog. Would highly recommend.

Trewartha Cottage - Perfect

We have just come home after a wonderful 2 week stay at Trewartha Cottage. It is a beautiful cottage with all home comforts and everything you can possibly need. The interior decor is lovely and done to a very high standard. Its perfect! We really enjoyed the hot tub and champagne bar. The garden is lovely with fairy lights in the evening, really beautiful. Its was ideal for our two dogs to roam around and is fully enclosed. The setting is perfect, only 5 minute car drive to the beach, beautiful walks and a pub at the bottom of the drive! Emma and Scott, the owners, are lovely and really helpful. Highly recommend. We've already booked for next year!

Fantastic Properties in Amazing Locations

I’ve stayed in numerous Cornish Gems properties over the last eight years, from large and spectacular (where I had a big birthday!) to small but perfectly formed (just me and the dog!) Every property has been meticulously clean, well equipped, beautifully presented and in a fantastic location. You pay a premium but, in my experience, it’s always been worth it! Hats off to Customer Service & property owners too - on the rare occasion I have needed help with something, they have been incredibly responsive and the issue dealt with quickly and without fuss. We’ve already booked again for next year!

Beautiful comfortable modern barn conversion

We had a lovely relaxing stay in the cart house this October. It has been produced to the highest comfort level. A huge woodburner, warm everhot oven, amazing shower and bath. We had a few wet and windy days and it was lovely to come back to a warm and welcoming house. Didn’t get in the hot tub as too windy. We popped into the local pub who were friendly. Also popped into the local shop and farm shop for supplies, they had everything you need. I have been told for a holiday you have to stay in a property better than your home, this was first class

Godrevy Blue Carbis Bay

Such a clean, well appointed apartment with amazing views over Carbis Bay to St Ives and Hayle. Good parking which is important to us, straight into a lift up to the apartment, such easy access! The location is convenient, easy access to St Ives either walking or by train which is super cute and easy. Cornish Gems always call you a day or two after your arrival to check all is good and you are happy, you feel they genuinely care that you have a great time. Azure, Carbis Bay, St Ives

The views are perfect. The apartment is clean and has everything you really could think you would want. And some you think, wow that will come in useful. Even down to wine stoppers to keep your prosecco fresh. Beds very comfortable and sky TV to boot. The coffee machine takes the standard capsules not the newer type, just for info. 2 mins walk to the station, and half hourly service into St Ives that takes 3 mins. And only £1 each way. Don't drive, it's not worth it. Hill down to Carbis bay, but lovely once there. But without the hill you would not have the spectacular view. And if you have never been to Cornwall, you have to go just for the Cornish mussels, cooked Cornish style in cider. Best I have ever tasted.

Cuttlefish in Mousehole.

Cuttlefish in Mousehole.
We specifically booked this cottage because of the garden. Having an outdoor space is important to us on holiday. Cornish Gems described it as
An "idyllic private garden" and "a slice of paradise".
Unfortunately what they failed to mention is that it isn't even attached to the house. You have to go out of the front door across a public footpath and up steps to get in. It is a beautiful garden but the one evening we sat outside we were being waved at by the passers-by walking up the path - not our idea of private.
We particularly like to have our breakfast and morning coffee in our pjs in the garden - which wasn't an option.

They also mention the stunning views which were gorgeous, however, they don't mention the steepness of the path to get to the cottage. This is especially relevant as you are unable to unload your car as no parking is available near the cottage (we were aware of, not complaining about the parking) We found it very difficult hauling our suitcases up the steep hill.
The cottage itself was tastefully decorated and nice enough. However, we would NEVER have booked if we had known about the garden.
I think Cornish Gems miss-sold this property it is not made clear how the garden is set out and it certainly isn't private.
I wouldn't use this company again as I don't think they are truthful in their descriptions of properties

Amelia’s Point, St Ives

Spectacular views across St Ives Bay (including dolphins circling off Porthminster Beach immediately downhill from the apartment!); a short walk down to the harbour for loads of great food and shops (and swimming seals!); excellent base for coastal walks and, within easy reach by car, St Michaels Mount, Minack Theatre and Lands End. Fantastic top floor bedroom with superb en suite and bijou balcony great for morning coffee and evening glass of bubbly; comfy window seats in the large open plan kitchen/diner/sitting area were an added bonus in less clement weather 😊

Waterside Newquay

This property is an apartment in a Victorian house. It is beautifully appointed and has everything you could wish for for an enjoyable holiday including TVs, Wifi and reading material. Two spacious bedrooms and two superb bathroom, one with a bath with shower, and the other with a large walk in shower. Both are ensuite, as you would expect. The outstanding feature is the view from the large, well furnished, balcony. The photograph on the website probably does not do it justice. As well as seeing across the river, which is tidal and so has a changing outlook there are excellent views up the river, and down to Crantock Beach, which can be walked to at low tide. Tide tables are provided so you don't get caught. There are also lovely shared gardens, and access to the river down quite a few steps. The only minor comment is that parking is perhaps a bit tight. Not so much the space, but the turn in and out. You do get used to it though. We have a Discovery Sport, and that was fine. Might be a bit tight in a Range Rover or something of that size. On the other hand, it is quite near the front door which makes loading and unloading easy. This is the second time we have stayed with Cornish Gems, and their service is excellent. We have booked this property again for next year.
