Chatsworth rip off
Very disappointed with experience. Rooms not a real reflection of house. All very similar and not many open to public. In the grounds cascades and fountains not working. No mention of this or reduction in price. Plenty of effort taken to get people to spend on greatly overpriced food ( £5.50 for a sandwich and £2.25 for a can of coke) and souvenirs!!!!!!
Very disappointed in our visit
Very disappointed in our visit. Had watched programme Chatsworth at Christmas and thought the house and surrounding gardens looked amazing. Our first impression as we viewed the house for the first time was wow but that is where the wow factor ended. We are both health impaired which impacts on walking. Walking between sculptures was really hard going. Very few places to sit and rest. Walking round the house became very boring. Rooms are basically the same. Loads of four poster beds. Murals on ceilings. Disappointed that the cascade fountain wasn't working. I wish I had read previous reviews. Won't be going back
Burning man and sheep dung
Burning man and sheep dung
Burning knee an ankle joints more like,
if you are walking impaired you may consider using some form of transport to get from one sculpture to another ( if you find them ) or take a fold out chair
as there are no seats to rest, and don't wear good shoes the grass is covered in sheep dung,
no signs to direct you to each sculpture did I mention the sheep dung ( lots of it ) avoid if you can
there are many helpful members of staff who appeared not to know how many sculptures there are, was not i able to acquire a map to either avoid sheep dung or any direction to where each sculpture is located,,
visiting Chatsworth felt far more like an exercise in taking money out ones wallet and giving little in return,
I won't be bothering again
First time we have ever been and wow…
First time we have ever been and wow stunning grounds and the house out of this world every member of staff were so helpful and knowledgeable about the house from the 79 year old lady in the music room to the young gentleman in the library they explained how its the last year for the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire they must be so proud of the standards and can't wait to go back Christmas looks a great time to go well done all

Dont bother booking, the system isnt working
As previous reviewers have said, the new season opens and the booking system on the website is down. The least they could do is put a notice on the website. I have been trying for two days, you have to get through to the card details before you are rejected. This is going to lose Chatsworth so much business. I cant believe they cant fix it.
Impossible to book a ticket - crazy way to run a Charity!
Terrible start to season opening on 26th March 2022 - the online booking system is not working, and they don't take telephone bookings, and they tell you to book in advance. So how are you supposed to book a ticket? I called Customer Services, who transferred me to the Bookings Dept. and my call immediately went to voicemail. Still waiting to hear back from them. I live 3 - 4 hours away, so I will now choose a different destination, and spend my hard earned money with a company that can actually do business with customers! This is a crazy way to run a business - even more galling when you realise that Chatsworth is owned by and supported by the UK govt. i.e. by us poor suffering tax payers.
Well worth a visit
I have visited Chatsworth several times over the years and it never fails to impress. Even with all the current restrictions the staff were friendly and well informed. The house is one of the UKs many gems.

It has cost £118 for our visit to the house and grounds. Included is the Farmyard......one problem....its £10.80 each for the Farmyard. Our booking was 6.16pm and the farm is closed. The last entry is 4pm. They dont tell you that at time of booking. So disappointing and horrendous value for money. It is a complete rip off and the only baubles to buy that was available in the gift shop was £40 each. The Duke and Duchess of Devonshire must think we are stupid. Stay at home and watch the programme. It has been thrown together this year. It would have been better giving something back to the people. Sad really. Won't be going again.
Such a disappointment
We’ve been to Chatsworth at Christmas a few years ago and it was excellent. We booked this year and in the run up we’re so excited. Unfortunately we were all so disappointed. We got to the end and said is that it.
Far fewer rooms and trees. It felt like it had been done on the cheap. If this was the case it should have been reflected in the price. We won’t be going back until they can show us they have improved.
Garden Is very expensive
Garden Is very expensive. Very few instillations and no Christmas spirit. 20 minutes and you have seen it. Save your money

Visited the Xmas market and was very disappointed, very crowded poor choice of stalls, left after an hour £10 parking extortionate. Despite this thought we would visit Xmas lights in the garden at a later date. What a disappointment! £14 each for 4 adults and £7.50 for a 4 year old hardly any lights and what there were could have been done much better, we walked round in half an hour. Will not be visiting again in future years.
Don't bother
Very disappointed with the market. Overcrowded so no distancing, repetitive stalls, overpriced food, not a good selection of products. All in all a total waste of £10 parking fee. Will not attend again.
Went to chatsworth house Christmas 2021…
Went to chatsworth house Christmas 2021 and was very disappointed.. The house was very sparse of decorations and actually of Christmas spirit.. Not worth the money this year considering it was from previous years there was hardly anything there
So disappointed..
We were all looking forward to a nice day at Chatsworth but we were so disappointed. Some rooms were decorated nicely but some were rubbish. Trees were not even fully decorated. It was like they had ran out of decorations half way up the tree or just couldn't be bothered. Didn't see as many rooms as previous year I had been. I don't understand why the Christmas market is only on for a short period of time and doesn't go in to Dec when it's closer to Xmas. Not much effort put in to making it a good experience. Won't be going again.
First and last time at Chatsworth
First and last time at Chatsworth. Used decorations from previous years and not many of them. The theme…looking back over 20 years! Certainly a rip off . Blame COVID no doubt. POOR
Disappointing Christmas Market 2021
Visited the Christmas Market yesterday. Paid £10 in advance to park. We arrived at 10.40 and the market was already busy. Most stalls you couldn't even get too as were 3 deep. Lots of people also had taken dogs which really didn't help the situation. There was no way you could social distance. We were under the impression that the numbers were controlled with the advanced booking! The stalls we did manage to look at were over priced and seemed to be pretty repetitive. We couldn't believe that a greek wrap was £12 or alternative pork sarnie £8. Disappointing and wouldn't recommend. We managed an hour before we decided it was all to much. All about making money. Don't waste your time
Totally disappointed
Totally disappointed. First time out since lockdown. Well overpriced. All stalls selling same thing. Back to car within an hour. Won't be going again.
£20 Parking!
Not been to Chatsworth in a while, decided to take the wife to the Christmas Market. We arrived to find it was online booking only, fine considering Covid I went to book online to find the parking was £20, (from £5 it said!) yes you read that right £20 to enter and park to visit the Christmas Market stalls.
Decided to pay it after we had travelled over an hour, and whilst I appreciate they have to employ car parking attendants and put some matts out to restrict damaging the grass here and there, there must have been 1,000+ cars parked from what I could see (£20,000 and that was just for one day)
The icing on the cake was just how busy it was, ram packed... cramped everyone into a small strip, obviously to promote the Chatsworth Shop in the stables at the end of the stalls.
Amazing for the stall holders for it to be that busy, but the experience I had trying to get a look at the stalls was ridiculous. 3 deep couldn't even move in some areas. We left after an hour.
Hot Chocolate £4.50, Hot Dog £7.50, Pastie £5.50.
Overpriced hype, won't be going again.
Can I suggest next time you place the stalls away from the house and give people some room to manoeuvre and breath!
An amazing day out not to be missed.
Spent the whole day at Chatsworth House yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed the magical atmosphere that is Chatsworth. Eight of us walked through the house and appreciated the amount of work which had gone into each room. I personally would have been delighted to have seen some of the past themes reused in full in each of the rooms, rethinking a new theme next year. The lunch in the Cavendish Restaurant was very nice and the service was excellent. The Christmas Market was varied and quite magical as the light faded. To finish the day, we were privileged to see the journey of illuminations through the garden. A truly beautiful experience. Wow! We are so lucky to have the opportunity to visit such a magnificent stately home. A must to visit. Thank you everyone for all your hard work.
