Many customers found the product to be incomplete and inaccurate, leading to overpaying for vehicles or discovering undisclosed damage and issues after purchase. People frequently mentioned that the service was below par and not worth the cost, with reports often lacking crucial details or containing erroneous information. The pricing for reports was also a significant point of dissatisfaction, with many finding it too expensive for the limited and often unreliable information provided. The overall value for money was consistently rated as poor, with many feeling that the reports offered little more than what could be found for free elsewhere.

CARFAX is terrible

CARFAX is terrible, state they will refund for incorrect reports. Requested refund for report that showed all services in one state, so we looked at the car. Owner showed title from a state miles away that was never on the CARFAX report. CARFAX refused to refund money for report. We will never again trust CARFAX!

CARFAX BURIES BAD DEALER REVIEWS

Tried to post review for Toyota of Surprise (AZ), where I just had $3,000-plus worth of work done to my Toyota pickup. Dealer refused to provide the link to post a review. Why? Because they know what I would report and they don't want my review out there.
I requested CarFax to send me a link THREE TIMES! No reply.
Seems CarFax and the various dealerships touting their use of CarFax are in bed with each other. Don't believe for a minute that you're getting the real scoop from CarFax reviews-- you're definitely going to see praising reviews AND NOTHING ELSE! Be advised.

Carfax is misleading.

Carfax is misleading and no one should rely on a Carfax report when buying a car.
I bought a Hyundai Elantra in 2021 and have taken it for service appointments religiously. I moved last year and the Hyundai dealership I'm using for service does not participate in Carfax reporting
I contacted Carfax to let them know that their report is inaccurate because my car has, indeed, been getting serviced regularly, but they are reporting that it is not. I wrote to them that this is not fair to me because when I go to sell my car the average consumer will not question the report and that will lower the value of my car.
Most people are automatically given a Carfax report when purchasing a vehicle and they believe it to be an accurate presentation of the car care.
When I contacted them to let them know they're wrong, they told me I have to contact the dealership and ask them to sign on with Carfax. Although it's not my job to do this for Carfax, I did it. My dealership said they use some other company. I didn't even know there were other companies. Most people don't.
I told Carfax what happened and I told them that it's not my job to get dealerships signed up with them. I never heard from them again and my car continues to show that it hasn't been serviced for over a year now.

Useless to OWNERS...

For me as a car owner (not a prospective buyer), CarFax just nags about things that either I have already done, or are overdue.

Might be of any use to me if, knowing when things are due, they'd tell me B-E-F-O-R-E.

And for updating records that they are not up-to-date on (most of mine), don't ask ME the details if you know the service center it went through - ASK THEM!!!!!

Do yourself a favor. Check BBB.

Do yourself a favor and check their rating on Better Business Bureau, before making any purchases. Dealing with them has been a nightmare. Purchased a 2017 Fiat 124 Spider on 8/7/23. Purchase agreement included a "We-Owe". I was promised that they were going to facilitate reprogramming the second (Mazda) key with Fiat in order to remove an error code that was present on the dashboard, at the time of the purchase. Months later, they are refusing to honor the "We-Owe". See below for a timeline of events.

08/28/23 - It took almost a month of repeatedly calling them, before they scheduled an appointment with their service department.

08/30/23 - I dropped the vehicle off at Wilsonville Toyota’s service department.

09/02/23 - After they had my vehicle for a few days, I was informed that Fiat had a 2-month waiting time, and they were going the route of using a 3rd party locksmith, instead. I was told they needed to order a key from Fiat (1-2 weeks), and I would receive a call when it arrived. No call came. After 2 weeks, I made multiple calls and was repeatedly told that I would receive a call back. Never happened.

10/13/23 - Month and a half later, I finally got an answer that they had the key and had received it a week or 2 prior. They scheduled me an appointment, telling me that my vehicle would remain on-site for approximately 24 hours while they had the locksmith come to reprogram the key.

10/20/23 - I dropped it off at about 9:45-9:50am.

10/21/23 - I received a call around noon, the next day. I was told that the locksmith failed to program a new key and remove the error code, claiming Fiat sent them a faulty key. They said they would need to order another key (another 1-2 weeks) and try again. After reviewing the dashcam footage, I discovered that they did not keep my car on-site. Instead, it was driven to a locksmith, in Beaverton, around 10:30am. Footage showed that the locksmith spent all of 20 minutes inside the working on my vehicle, finishing by 1:30pm. My vehicle was then left in a shared plaza's parking lot, overnight. Toyota did not retrieve it until around 10am, the next morning. It wasn’t until 2 hours later that I received the phone call.

10/23/23 - I decided to contact Fiat and see about a quote for programming the key, so that I could go through them, directly, and just ask Toyota to issue a check. Fiat told me that there was no 2-month wait, and it could be taken care of immediately. The service department put me in contact with the finance manager.

10/24/23 - The finance manager told me that he had to discuss with the general manager and would call me back. No call back.

10/26/23 - I was informed that the finance manager went on vacation.

10/30/23 - I finally got in touch with the general manager. He refused to issue a check but said they'd cover the cost at Fiat, by allowing it to be billed to their account. He said that he notified Ron Tonkin Fiat, letting them know that it was okay.

11/08/23 - Ron Tonkin Fiat informed me that, still, no one from Toyota has reached out to them. I sent an email to Toyota’s general manager and included Ron Tonkin’s service manager. Toyota responded back and gave the okay.

11/09/23 - Fiat ordered a replacement key, stating it would take 5-10 days.

11/21/23 - Fiat scheduled a service appointment and informed me that it would take approximately 1 hour.

11/27/23 - I took my vehicle to the service appointment at 9am. At approximately 10:15am, I was informed that a new key had been programmed, but the error code was still present. After looking into it for another hour, the following was determined:
“RFH MODULE HAS HARD FAULT CODE WILL PROBABLY NEED TO BE REPLACED.
IF WE DELETE THE MAZDA KEY IT COULD LOCK THE SYSTEM WHICH MEANS THE MODULE WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED”
Fiat stated that they did not have an RFH module on hand and would need to track one down.

12/06/23 - Ron Tonkin Fiat informed me that they were not getting a response back from Toyota, giving them the authorization to move forward. I again reached out to Toyota. They refused to honor the “We-Owe” in our purchase agreement and stopped responding altogether.

12/12/23 - Filed a complaint with Better Business Bureau. As of 1/9/24, the matter has been closed but is unresolved.

Scam artists

I previously had a pre purchased report in my name and when i attempted to use it , no longer valid even though it was. After fighting with costumer support they refunded it. This time, I had 2 pre purchased Vin searches coming due to expire(why they expire is a complete scam in itself, in my opinion) the email notifying me said I have 7 days. Today is day 7, I attempted to use them and they are no longer usable? It is day 7- so they means they expired 6 days after that email last week, pretty specific??? SCAM ARTISTS!!!

Carfax is a incomplete and inaccurate…

Carfax is a incomplete and inaccurate source of information of vehicles histories. I am looking to purchase a used RV. The listing on the vehicle that they provided, at a cost of $100, was so full of holes, it was unusable. I compared to the owners documented information and Carfax missed multiple services, inaccurately reported an accident that didn't happen and missed an accident that did happen. When I pointed this out to the person I was speaking with at Carfax, he said not all dealers, car repair shops etc contribute to Carfax, it is voluntary for them to do so. Who would EVER trust a system based on other companies voluntarily submitting information, which takes their time and effort, to a second company who makes money supplying their information to others. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY

Carfax has put me through a very hard…

Carfax has put me through a very hard time. I have read some of the previous users reviews also they also states the same issue as mine. My carfax report has shown an accident in Niagara region means (2 hrs away from my home) which was totally false so I reached out to Niagara Police and they said it was a mistake made by Officer he put my car VIN number instead of the car who actually involved in the accident. Then they fixed it in two weeks and sent it to Ministry of Transportation. I asked carfax to update that and they said they can’t contact them directly and same thing was said by the Police and by the MINISTRY OF TRANSPORTATION. No one is helping no one is able to send each other this fixed report. It seems that everyone is there to just create false report and then put the consumer in trouble. Now I am paying eveymonth for my car and it’s just sitting in my Garage . I have no option or solution I am just stuck. This is the worst situation for me . The people who should help public are just here to give trouble only.

Incompetent, incorrect, and dont care?

I bought a used 2003 Corvette from a Chevrolet dealer in Nov 2007. With it I received a clean Carfax report showing no accidents/damage. 16 years later, Dec 2023, I was attempting to trade my 2003 on a newer model. The dealer ran the Carfax and it showed an insurance entry of an accident and total loss in May of 2002. This was 18 months PRIOR to my purchase, and not reflected, but now, 16 years later the entry shows. The car has not been in any accident and certainly never totaled. To further back this up it has been titled in 4 states since the supposed incident, and all titles are clean and NOT salvage titles. I have written to Carfax twice, presenting the supporting documentation, and received no response. Who made Carfax God in this arena? Not only are they wrong and incompetent, they have shown they they just dont give a damn. They dont even give you and option to call and speak to a representative. Eveything must be done online! There has to be a better way! My next step, since I now have a car I cant sell due to Carfax ineptitude, is to contact a lawyer!

I had a great experience at auto discounters. Chris Dimitris was amazing. He sold me a 2009 GMC Canyon in April 2023 which I still love. The price, car, and service I received were unmatched. I recommend auto discounters whole heartedly

CarFax, what a laugh

Because the last nine months, I guess because I bought my car thru Flemington chain of dealerships, CarFax started sending me complete monthly reports of my 2020 Cadillac Escalade ESV. Oil life, tire pressure, mileage, and a bunch of other things. And it had at top, the Trade In Price as of that time. When you started sending the nine months ago, it was approximately $78,000.
Every month understandably it would go down a bit. August and Sept it was about $70,000. I’m telling you the very lowest in Sept. it was $69,000.
My mistake in all this was that I didn’t keep copies, unless I have one stashed, and didn’t run across it YET.
Well, based on your report, I went to the dealership and had a car lined up, I haggled on the price while the manager did “ his so called inspection”. Well, he came in and said here is your price on the new car. And what do you expect for your car? I said, really, I know you want me to tell you 25,000. Well he kinda chuckled, and said no really. I said that’s how we’re gonna play this? I told the salesman, tell him I want $76,000. And he said is that the bottom line, I said well, $75,000. He wrote $75.000 I said no to tell him $76,000. Well he disappeared and in comes the manager. With a Carfax in hand, that said like $58,900. I told him about the report I just received from you that said $70,000. He said, this is what he just got. After fighting with him back and forth, and inches from the door, we came to a deal, no thanks to you Carfax, I went as far as telling them, when I get home, the first fox I see, I’m gonna shoot it.
Now I come home and contact CarFax, I only request that you send me a copy of August and September so I can send it to them to show I’m not lying. You gave me nothing. So here is my last shot before I start with my bad ratings online. Pease send me a copy.

They should not be the standard

Carfax is a joke. They are the standard for valuation of vehicles yet their information is inaccurate at best. I was looking at a vehicle dor purchase and was going to trade my current car until I was told by the dealer that carfax reported my car as a total loss and airbag deployment. They mixed up the vehicles on the Police Report and are reporting the wrong info. After months of battling back and forth via email because there is not an actual person you can talk to They removed the total loss but refuse to remove the airbag deployment. I have given them 2 copies of the police report, the vehicle repair report, pictures feom the body shop that show the inside and outside of the car prior to repairs and they still refuse to fix their error. The Brainiacs at carfax think a parked, non-running car can have airbags deployed. They keep saying the information they have was verified but I can't get 1 piece of documentation stating what they claim. There's no agency that regulates them or holds them accountable for what they report so they do what they want. I can produce all of the evidence to debuke their libelous report but can't get it corrected.

So disappointing and waste of time.

So disappointed in the carfax listings that dealer list without disclosing everything on the vehicles advertised. It is misleading advertisement until you get to the dealership and discover that they are hiding facts about the vehicles they are selling. Two vehicles I looked at have hail damage that was not disclosed, sales person tried to conceal by saying no damage, hail damage and vehicle is free of any damage with clean carfax till discovered when inspected in person, one also has been wrecked and no info disclosed as well. Some of these issues will pass on someone that does not know about vehicles, what to look for when inspecting and test driving one. Therefore, carfax report does not disclose the actual truth about vehicles advertised on their site where some of it falls back on the dealership and their tactics to conceal and cheat people by selling cars that are not what’s advertised hoping it won’t be discovered.

I still haven't received an answer back…

I still haven't received an answer back on a mistake they have made. I need warranty work done on my only vehicle and it can't be worked on until they update a mistake they have created on mileage. The state DMV doesn't have a problem with the milage but yet Carfax does. Im the only owner and i know the mileage is correct. You can't speak to anyone on the phone!!! And it's been TWO weeks and no response. Why don't they read these horrible reviews and do something to improve their reputation!!! 😡And, how can they attach something like this to my vehicle that prevents it from being repaired? I honestly don't understand!!
