Canada Life can’t calculate Tax
Canada Life appear unable to calculate tax correctly in a quarterly payment cycle. HMRC confirm the error and CL complaints in the last tax year assured me that they ‘now’ had the correct tax code and my deductions would be correct in the 26/27 tax year. They were wrong, as again CL have allocated 1 month of my personal allowance against a quarterly payment (3 months) which selects in too much tax being deducted. Their response is to direct me to HMRC to reclaim it, which I cannot do until the end of the tax year.
I would advise everyone to avoid Canada Life if considering an Annuity.

What I didn't like
I didn't.like that I was twice asked to justify why I needed the tranche of my loan, when I had replied by return of post first time. And I didn't like that I felt I had to justify why I needed the tranche. It felt hostile. There will come a time when my reason will be to maintain a lifestyle- great holidays while I am still able to enjoy them- do I risk being turned down?

Loan drawn and in subsequent years repaid
In 2021 Canada Life lent us funds for a large transaction. The process to obtain the loan was thorough but not overburdening. The team at Canada Life were always helpful. We realised the related asset in April 2026 and repaid the loan. The process to repay the loan was clear and worked without a hitch. I recommend Canada Life for their expertise, understanding and commitment.

This company has cost me a great deal of money as they did not follow the instructions they were given, clearly and in large print.
No doubt they would use the small print as an excuse.
