How to kill a town (Brighouse)

How to kill a town. First you put parking charges up from 20p for half an hour to £1.

Then move the parking charge In Bethel Street parking from 70p, to 90p and then £1.50 per hr.

Then remove a portion of the carpark to put seating area in that nobody uses, and also do the same on Commercial Street removing more parking.

Then you tell market traders the market is being renovated and they can't come back once it's done.

Then remove the seating in the carpark to fill with containers and barriers.

Then, the top of the pile of a mess you are already making, you decide that 19 Million is worth spending and turn the whole centre into a building site. You've put companies out of business, you've upset many other businesses, meanwhile the centre is dying. Well done Calderdale Council, run by idiots...

Brighouse is a real mess. You should be ashamed.

This current council is absolutely…

This current council is absolutely delusional. Where do you start with them. We currently have road works throughout the town, which may i add has been going on for over 2 years, and another 2 years to go. At a meeting in the borough market the next phase was being shown. They were strutting around like peacocks at their achievements. Stating that this will transform the town. Well congratulations you have already achieved that transformation. You have literally bankrupted the place. No one comes in any more to shop because they are sick of it taking 30-40 minutes to get a few miles through the town. Every shop, and i mean every shop is struggling for customers. Those that aren’t are closed and not reopening. The guy we talked to when we stated this problem was blindly quick to state he comes in to halifax to work too. ‘Which shop do you work in, i asked?’ ‘I don’t, i work for the council.’ Just another one of the peacocks running around blind and delusional.
By the way we could have built 3 broad street plaza’s in the time its taken to do some new traffic lights and paving.

Recycling not fit for purpose

Yet again, no food waste bags left. Over a month since filled out form and very large note on food waste bin...for 3 weekd! None left. Lid of food waste bin left on street broken. Boxes not returned, paper sacks not emptied, containers left strewn about pavement and roads. Always leave paper etc everywhere except in their vehicle. The whole service is a shambles. No one ever responds to complaints, even formal ones. THE SERVICE IS NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE. Either the crews need changing or the Company. Is it any wonder people don't recycle their waste but just put in blue refuse bags

It's nice to see they are STILL to Lazy to grit or to put out grit bins. One day someone will slip and break something and sue the Council. It can all be prevented by grit bins

Also more random roadworks appearing overnight where nothing happens why???

The highways department have let us down again, just spent half hour in traffic coming home from Morrisons to Siddal. the A629 was moving at a snails pace due to temporary traffic lights not working properly. We have spent millions on road widening etc & it is worse than ever. I would like to know who’s ridiculous idea it was to send traffic towards west vale, & round a roundabout & back again to access the road to Sowerby Bridge. Very clever NOT. Someone needs sacking for orchestrating this fiasco

I put my bin out on Thursday night for collection Friday Morning. My house is the first one in the street . The bin was in clear sight with no obstructions. Yet the bin wasn’t emptied . Yes the rest of my street was .

I contacted the council and they advised me to leave it out and it would be collected within 48 hours and that was Friday and it’s now Tuesday .

I’m aware all the refuse collection vehicles have cameras fitted so they can’t even dispute the Bin wasn’t out . What annoys me are the lies regarding coming back to collect the waste .

I’ve been on the phone to speak to someone at the council , I’ve been queuing on the phone for 1hour and 7 mins as I write this review .

I’m absolutely lost for words ! It’s a terrible service all around !!

This so called council has done nothing…

This so called council has done nothing but dig up roads for around 3 or 4 years so yes it's created a much better traffic flow but there's still no street cleaning and very few bins so for all the beauty and never enough staff there's rubbish everywhere 😉 Roads we used to cross a few years ago are now like motorways. Thousands of huge , fast cars & wagons ploughing through the town you take your life in your hands whenever you need to cross. It wouldn't be so bad but crash barriers seem to be a thing of the past so it's no wonder there's more road accidents and deaths than the Police and Ambulances can deal with. Come on Calderdale, let's get real. Sort it out properly, employ more staff ,plan properly and do the work right because if the new bus station is anything to judge on I've not met anyone who actually likes it ! It's a poor layout, the toilets are constantly broken, you go to the stop you're meant to use but it's out of order, get moved to another then the next week it's still broken so moved again to another! Why can't you do it properly and build things taking a little bit of consideration into who'll use it, when and how ? Rather than building on an area that already had problems. All because the rows of houses that were there 50+ years ago never seem to have been filled in as they should so the first new one sank and the same's happening again with version 2. They truly disgust me because all the time we pay and pay for what? No services worth a mention, overflowing with people so local disabled are rough sleeping and that's right ? No it flaming well isn't .

Recycling

Our recycling collection is very hit and miss. The Council are saying we don't meet the criteria to report the missed collection: I don't understand why, because it is within 48 hours. I am tired of paying Council tax and not receiving the services which should be provided.

Beware of Calderdale Adult social care

Calderdale Central Adult social care - prejudice, bad faith, secretive

WARNING If you can, avoid letting the Shay stadium based care staff get control over your loved ones' wellbeing. Even after we had to move mum away they are still interfering and distracting me from mum's care.
Examples:
- Desperate to avoid doing the hard yards for neglected and abused elderly mum
- Broke promises to share recordings of meetings
- Refused to give mum's reports to her doctor and won't post them to mum
- We saw radically better staff from Elland team. Then they were moved to join the Calderdale Shay Stadium staff and things went bad again.

If you have an elderly loved one and you didn't get a power of attorney while they were mentally capable, beware of Calderdale social services. I strongly recommend you keep copies of all correspondence and complain using the council website AS SOON AS you experience bad behaviour. Else you may leave it too late as I did. If enough people complain with details, something might get done to fix the rot.

During our soul-destroying struggle to get mum out of an abusive care situation beginning october 2021, Calderdale's adult social care team were so desperate to avoid hard work, they emailed to TELL ME I cant look after mum for spurious made-up reasons including alleging mum's "first language is Punjabi, and yours is English" (total prejudice - they had no idea what languages I speak except that I spoke English with their staff. They used an interpreter to carry out a mental capacity test on mum - it would not have taken them more than a minute on the phone to verify I can speak Punjabi. The conclusions are simple and not pretty.) They then ignored my emails asking why they would make such a prejudiced statement.

In other emails they claimed District Nurses told them the bruises on mum were normal. (Later when I mentioned this to nurses visiting mum in my own care, they were shocked and told me they would have reported such bruising for a safeguarding action.)

During the 12 month window you can complain in, I was frantically occupied with getting mum out of that situation and later, coping with her care and the poor quality of homecare staff we were forced to endure (and pay for and train!). - and I didn't know how to complain about this instance of extreme prejudice. Now it's too late to go via their website.

I have repeatedly heard a knee jerk "No - Because GDPR" when requesting copies of reports and details of methodology used in carrying out their capacity test - mum's doctor (who referred mum for a test) told me he he was also refused on the same grounds. (When I later told our social worker, that mum's new doctor had asked me to show him the capacity test report, she claimed she doesn't need to give us those reports for him as he can ask calderdale for them. Yet the previous doctor had already been refused.)

We only got mum out of the abusive care when a sibling experienced in both care provision and knowledge of care laws forced the council to appoint a different social care team (from Elland) who turned out to be totally competent and on mum's side. She got them to do a capacity test on finances and appoint a financial deputy (so mum's income would no longer be in the control of the abusive carer). Then mum was thrown out by the abusive carer into my care.

After the then director of social care retired the teams were reorganized - mum's social worker joined the Shay Stadium staff and we have seen a return to the old attitudes I saw when they let us down so badly.

Most recently I am trying (via ico.org.uk) to use data protection rules to access the documentary evidence they are keeping from us. I am sure there are staff who fear the effect that fresh air and sunlight (scrutiny) would have on their work - and probably their jobs. In what seems to be a tit-for-tat in response to my recent formal complaint about staff breaking their word to share a recording of an online best interests meeting, they have emailed the family to say they are going to take legal action to try force mum into a care home where we know her care will be inferior to the care I have managed to give her the last 18m, and her emotional and physical and mental welfare will suffer.

If we do go to court maybe it will allow us to shed light on the rot that seems to hide at the Shay stadium and then do something about it.

Parking Fine with a ticket

Last year they issued me a fine regarding my parking. When I parked I noticed that I had one number wrong on ticket, so I told immediately to the enforcement officer that was around checking the cars... "That's my car and this is my ticket, I paid but I did a mistake on my registration plate, one number" he said okay and I thanked him and enjoyed my day.
It took me over a year of disputes and emails to cancel the fine on PCN. Two months back they were giving me 5 working days before they come to my house and empty it. A very stressful situation caused by a greedy council that after that put me off to visit hebden bridge again and spend my money to the local market.
Anyway, now it's over (?!?). I have to be very careful the next time I write my registration plate..one digit can destroy your life.
