Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 61 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many visitors frequently complained about extremely dirty rooms, broken room amenities, malfunctioning heating systems, and poor general maintenance standards found throughout the aging properties. Customers also experienced unhelpful or openly rude staff behavior, alongside severe service delays, long queues at the main bar, and unmanageable management disputes. Though some reviewers noted positive aspects, a small group of people still found certain elements to be quite satisfying during their stays. Particularly, consumers appreciated exceptionally helpful staff members, highly convenient central locations, clean and comfortable accommodations, and pleasant surrounding environments located nearby.

Thank you for yet another pleasant stay at Folkestone

Thank you for yet another pleasant stay. I must congratulate you on your new entertainment program. It reminds me of when I first come your hotel. 35 years ago. When you had the kids club down stairs. The new entertainment is so much more up to date we loved it. The only down side was the base on the sound system was ok when playing music. But unfortunately when the show was on it overpowered the singing. Sorry to have a negative But I was a professional children’s entertainer for 35 years. And it really spoilt the show. But congratulations on the hotel upgrade and the new entertainment program will be a big success

Never Again. Cavendish Eastbourne

stayed this bank holiday weekend 22/05 till 24/05
I dont think the windows have ever been cleaned.
The room looked ok but look deeper and its filthy
accessible room ...well my mother cant bend her left leg so needs a handrail both sides to lower herself onto the loo...there wasnt/isnt one
Asked for afternoon tea/sandwich Dont do it.
bar only open in the evening, asked for irish coffee , bar person didnt know what one was , and played what sounded like rock music , no wonder the bar was empty both nights.
Honest opinion , the rooms really arent cleaned properly , sea view rooms the windows and sills were absolutely filthy and disgusting. i feel i deserve a part refund it was that filthy.
very boring hotel.
Stayed in a close by neighbouring hotel (sausage) and you couldn,t fault it.
i understand the aspects of running a hotel but this one needs some serious management talks about cleanliness and the way its run..£320 for 2 nights !!! for a dirty room.

A weekend stay somewhat spoiled by our hotel room

Normally our hotel stay is usually very satisfying !!
However this weekend break our room was far from adequate !!
The bathroom floor was badly damaged and filthy with grime visible!!
The extract fan didnt work!!
There was no hot water to shower or wash our hands
The window sealed units were steammed up inside obscuring our view out the windows
The room/ corridor areas had no smoking signs but you could clearly smell that people in the immediate corridor had been smoking as there was a very bad lingering stale smell of cigarettes
The sink in the bathroom visible pipes were filthy with grime
All the aforementioned was pointed out to the desk staff
We have stayed at this hotel on numerous occassions and normally upgrade to the upper floor levels The room we stayed in was on the first floor
I pointed this out to the desk person to view on our signing out / leaving the hotel and was more than happy to take them up to the room and point these items out, to a reply of that will not be necessary ??

Visited Coventry yesterday

Visited Coventry yesterday. Excellent attentive staff, comfortable beds and clean. Great prices and everything in working order including iron, hairdryer, TV and bath in en suite. Lots of original features - I love that it hadn't been updated. Excellent pool table.

Myself and my partner stayed here as…

Myself and my partner stayed here as the location was great for where we wanted to visit. The Hotel was beautiful (dated yes but this has many original features) Why would you want to change it! it is the reason I chose it. It is delightfully time warped. If I wanted modern I would have chosen a modern Hotel. Many people will choose a Hotel and not review where they stay. That's on them. I loved the Hotel. My room though basic, was warm and clean. The staff were friendly and the service could not be faulted. The Hotel probably could do with a lick of paint in places, however the whole building and architecture itself is beautiful. The sweeping staircase and chandeliers are simply magnificent.
I would recommend the Hotel, if you want modern, and tacky, then this is not the place for you.
I will definitely be revisting.

Our car was damaged

We stayed in the Royal Bath Hotel in Bournemouth for a week last year. Our car was valet parked and according to the website parked in a ‘secure safe underground car park’ None of that was true. Our car was left in a loading bay, not in a marked bay or a car park. It was in front of a skip that was in constant use, under a hole in a roof and it came back not only filthy but more importantly with a dent and scrape of paint on the door. It was a brand new car. We’ve also proved that our car was damage free when we arrived through Ring doorbell and dash cam footage.
I do not call this secure or safe in any way. The hotel deny any responsibility for the damage and will not pay for the repair. They say that there were no spaces in the car park but we weren’t made aware of this. Had we been we wouldn’t have left it there. We’ve been ignored and given the run around for months hence only posting now. Avoid at all costs.

Do not book with britannia hotels

I called Britannia hotels this morning to complain about a hotel that they had booked me into for this weekend for a business trip to women singularly in different rooms and one dog. They didn't want to listen to my complaint and said that they are only a booking service for the hotels. Is my complaint was quite serious I kept going with the person on the phone as I knew it was being recorded and I even said so. They fought me off with an email address and no one to speak to I am certainly distressed about the my experience at this hotel. Please see below what I have done as a review at the hotel. :
Rooms-The worst hygiene ever! Had to get a blanket from my car to go to sleep because the bed linen smelled like it had been used by somebody else even though it looked like the bed had been made up nice. Stains on the wall bedroom and bathroom was horrendous
the only good thing about the room was the shower worked and it was lovely the towels I didn't use I used my own because they had
mascara marks on them and other marks on that I just don't want to describe here! At the end of my stay I decided to strip the bed as I do at other hotels and discovered what I can only describe as just terribly disgusting it actually made me feel physically sick I discovered that the duvet had lots of blood stains on it and they looked quite fresh possibly the person the night before the pillows had other stains on them too also the under sheet / mattress topper had a brown
round stain on it.
Safety:
At 3:00 a.m. in the morning I heard what I can only describe as a really loud bang it sounded like either somebody had fallen onto the door or was trying the door it woke me and my dog up with a real shock so much so my dog barked really loudly and growled he has never ever done this and we've been to lots of hotels this hotel has made me feel very unsafe so much so that I will never be booking a Britannia Hotel ever again! I found Britannia group this morning and they just want to pass the book stay are only a booking system!
Food and drinks
There's a lovely restaurant across the road from the hotel which we really enjoyed. The breakfast at the hotel was average not much on offer really. We were told on booking that this hotel was dog friendly it was to a point the rooms yes dog friendly but when we went for breakfast we expected to be put in a
area where we could have the dog with us to have our breakfast this was not the case we were refused and even when we said could we sit out here in the hallway they refused that too and we kept going we booked a dog friendly hotel and they allowed us to sit in the
hallway the chef was really nice actually
once everything had been organized.

If you want a dog-friendly Hotel don't bother.
If you're a person on your own traveling for business don't book this
hotel their Wi-Fi doesn't work.
Britannia needs to look after their customers a lot better than they have done I would know doubt want to ask for my many back but this has been made really difficult.

Overpriced likely because it was a six nations date but I wouldn’t never stay at the chain again . It was very expensive , staff were ambivalent, there was misinformation, poor decor and insufficient parking . When you alerted staff to misinformation re meals they were not interested . There was no manager on sight and the lobby area was cold.

Booking made through hotel website actually through a 2nd AND 3rd party agent

Booked a room directly with the hotel (or so I thought).
I needed to cancel my booking so I called them and was told that I had made the booking through Expedia and therefore they could not cancel it. I don't even have an Expedia account so how I made the booking with them was baffling...
So I had to create an account to chat with Expedia to use the chat function to find this Booking. Yes the booking was there but then I was told they couldn't cancel it either as it was actually made through HotelsOne????
The chat agent sent me the web URL to go to so I could get the details and luckily I was able to speak to someone to cancel it
I have never even heard of HotelsOne - how on earth did they have my booking when I made it directly through the Carrington House Hotel on the Britannia Hotels website?
Awful practice. BE AWARE

No response to an email enquiry. Decided not to bother them by Telephoning but thought it would be more helpful to them if I'd send an email. Still no reply after a week of waiting. Not very good PR is it?

Burns night at the Adamton Hotel

Burns night at the Adamton Hotel
We went on the trip to Adamton country house for Burns night. We were firstly surprised as the photo seen looks like a country house. There is but you only get to walk through it to get to the bar. Rooms and restaurant are modern additions.
The ‘Garden Room’ (restaurant) has all the appeal and atmosphere of a work canteen. Service is one person checking room numbers on entry and clearing tables. No one in service area, which was self service of very unappetising, cool food. The food was repetitive and often rehashed from the night before. Burns night we did have table cloths and themed centre pieces, which made the room feel nicer, but these were whipped off the table, as soon as we’d finished some before! Canteen back for the evening entertainment. I did ask to keep it but told I couldn’t because the manager had said. ☹️
On the plus side, the room was warm, in fact too warm. The bathroom was modern with very nice fittings and hot water. However others complained of cold room and cold water, so it might depend what side the corridor you were on.
Burns night itself: The traditional piping in the haggis and the poem and dagger were all there. Haggis tatties and neeps also. Slightly more atmosphere, until we got the canteen tables back. There was also an extra, different dessert, unfortunately not enough for everyone by the time I got there.

Britannia Hotel, Manchester

I had a good stay at Britannia Hotel, Manchester, an historic and impressive building, located in the centre of the city a short walk from Piccadilly rail station. My non-window room was comfortable, spacious and had a bath in the bathroom. Staff were helpful when I had to return to pick up my suitcase. Good value. No complaints

The Austin Ex-Apprentices Association…

The Austin Ex-Apprentices Association once again held their annual reunion dinner event at the Bromsgrove Hotel and Spa, which is part of the Elite Venue Selection. This, our 91st reunion was a total success, and in fact one of our most enjoyable events to date. The staff worked so hard and gave us "service with a smile" from start to finish. The dining experience was exemplary both in quality and service. Their senior staffs organising skills and advice, both prior, during and after the event was much appreciated, The excellent overnight accommodation and substantial breakfast rounded off a most memorable event. May I take this opportunity to say a BIG THANK YOU to all involved.
