Difficult to trust their word

We paid a deposit and fee to have a car sent to Big Motoring World at Bluebell Hill branch from another of their bases, We received a notice stating that our payment had been received and that the vehicle had been removed from sale so no one else could buy it. We arrived at the branch to be told that the car had already been sold and that the deposit and transfer fee had never been taken. We checked our bank and found that the deposit had been taken but not returned. We were then told it could take 3 to 5 days to obtain a refund. Despite this on day 6 we are now told we may have to wait between 7 and 14 days for money that was never supposed to have been taken in the first place,
This, on top of losing the car we had wanted to buy was not a good experience and not one we would wish others to have to experience,

Hi Paul,

We are very sorry to hear about the confusion surrounding the vehicle transfer, your reservation payment and the subsequent refund.

I can see that the refund request was submitted to the site's General Manager on 11/09. Once authorised, the refund can take 3–5 working days to reflect in your account, depending on your bank's processing times.

We appreciate that this is longer than you would reasonably expect. Please let me know at Customercare@bigmotoringworld.co.uk if you do not receive the refund by early next week, and I will chase this further for you.

We are sorry that the combination of losing the vehicle you had intended to purchase and the uncertainty around your money resulted in such a disappointing experience. Your feedback regarding the reservation and transfer process has been passed on to the management team.

Kindest regards,
Big Motoring World

Friendly

The team were very welcoming and friendly. I had read reviews about staff being pushy when trying to sell add-ons, however I did not find that this was the case. The only issue was that they were short staffed and the wait was longer than I anticipated.

Bought a car for over £30k and it’s…

Bought a car for over £30k and it’s spent a month now in the garage. Was assured by the salesman that their warranty was worth the money as “we bought them out to ensure they treated the customer fairly” and the warranty is not worth a penny! Almost £6K in repairs and the warranty has wriggled out of paying out. Now I have a car that’s worthless as I can’t afford to get it repaired! So much stress and upset as well as being unable to work as I need a car to do that.

Thank you for reply but as it stands today you have still not contacted me even though I have sent you my details twice now. AND contacted your support team twice! Clearly you are not that bothered!

Thank you for your further reply but my earlier reply was more than 2 weeks ago. I have NO faith that you will attempt to contact me as this update was obviously purely from my last email to you today which you have YET AGAIN not responded to. This company is a total sham. I have now made a complaint to my finance company who is VERY interested in the amount of complaints they have been receiving about Big Motoring world. As is the Facebook page which deals with people who have had bad experiences with you. We are all considering going to the press to let the public know what kind of car dealers you really are. At the time of writing this I still have NOT been contacted by you. What a shocker

Oh look!! Still not contacted me 🙄
As of the 29th Sept you still HAVE NOT contacted me. You have no intention of sorting this situation out. The motoring ombudsmen has accepted my application to complain about his company so they will be in touch.

In response to your reply you’re now admitting you have no intention of communicating with me! Great customer service Big Motoring World 👏🏼

Hi Linda,

Thank you for taking the time to provide such detailed feedback. We are very sorry to hear about the difficulties you have experienced with your vehicle and the significant stress and inconvenience this situation has caused.

We understand how concerning it must be to have a vehicle off the road for an extended period, particularly when you rely on it for work, and we’re sorry that you feel you have been unable to get the support and communication you expected from us.

We also acknowledge your concerns regarding the warranty and the repairs required. We appreciate that you feel the warranty did not provide the level of cover you were expecting and that you have been left frustrated by the outcome.

We are particularly concerned to hear that you have contacted us and provided your details on multiple occasions without receiving the response you were expecting. This is not the level of communication we aim to provide, and we apologise for the frustration this has caused.

We understand that you have now raised your concerns with your finance company and the Motoring Ombudsman. We would not want to discuss the specifics of your case publicly, but we will fully engage with the appropriate parties regarding any formal correspondence we receive.

Ongoing poor service, update on ongoing issues and reviews

Since we picked up the vehicle from the garage after having half the repairs and the engine light reappearing as expected as the garage also informed us would happen, we have been told keep driving as a minimum until the car goes back infor the remainder of the repairs. Again paying for a car we cannot use. Warranty2000 now telling us that we need to pay for repairs that previously should have been completed by bigmotoring worlds warranty team to the cost of £2500 is disgusting,

Putting a deposit of £4000 down on a vehicle to report the first issues 10 to 14 days after recieving, later to being told drive the car it will be ok for the garage to say you shouldnt be driving the car it is making the issues worse to now be told we have to pay another £2500 for big motoring worlds incompetance at 1 taking 6 months to get this issue looked at and sorted to then handing us over to a different warranty company with no care in the world of helping or resolving my case to being told yes drive ur car it will be fine is nothing short of disgusting. A 4 year old car with issues that could have been avoided if resloved straight away. We now have been waiting 2 weeks on warranty2000 and big motoring worlds communication to find out why the remaining issues wasnt resolved.

Reminder brought the car 27th Dec 2025, reported Jan 2026, went to the garage in June 2026, still not resolved or fixed at the time of writing 3rd Sept 2026 what the point in paying for the 3 year warranty ? Another scam?

I remain without the use of a car, being told £2500 is the cost of repairs add that to loss of earnings for work due to no vehicle amongst the other issues and inconveinace caused in previous reviews. As a customer this is not how you should be treated, i feel robbed and a victim of fraud on how this is still ongoing with genuienly no end in sight of this matter, still no contact with any body.

I want Big Motoring world to get in contact with me and offer a solution which doesnt cost me any more money and for them to accept responsibility for their involvement in this and not to continue cowarding behind a review reply stating they ackowledge the inconvienace but that it.

Id like to continue addressing the fact that your responses to my reviews are pointless, you continue to acknowledge the frustration this has caused ect and stating in your previous response that this is not good enough if a clear route isnt provided with resolving my case, contact information should have been provided for escalation or ensured me that someone of authority would take ownership of my case and contact me.... guess what no contact no information given. Saying that your communication and handling if my case is unacceptable and should be better but not actually rectifying it is poor and customers should know that this is how you are treated as a customer and aftercare following the sale of a vehicle.

Reply from Big Motoring World - Blue Bell Hill

Hi Richard,

Thank you for providing this further update. We’re very sorry that your concerns remain unresolved and, in particular, that you feel our previous responses have acknowledged your frustration without providing the action or escalation you have been asking for.

We understand how unacceptable this situation must feel, particularly given that you first reported issues in January and the vehicle was not assessed until June, with repairs still outstanding in September. We also appreciate your frustration at being advised to continue driving the vehicle, only for the garage to subsequently advise that doing so could worsen the issues.

We’re equally concerned to hear that you have now been advised of a further £2,500 repair cost and that you are still waiting for clarity regarding why the outstanding repairs were not completed previously. We understand why you would be seeking a clear explanation of what has happened and why you should now be expected to meet additional costs.

We’re sorry that you have had to repeatedly chase for updates and that, despite our previous response, you have not been contacted by someone who has taken ownership of your case. We recognise that simply acknowledging the inconvenience without providing a clear route forward does not resolve the situation, and we apologise for the continued lack of communication.

Your concerns regarding the warranty process, the handling of the vehicle, the outstanding repairs and the communication between Big Motoring World and the warranty providers need to be properly reviewed. We would like the opportunity to ensure your case is escalated to the appropriate team so that the history can be reviewed and a clear position provided.

We’re sorry that your experience has continued for so long without a satisfactory resolution. We understand the impact this has had on your ability to use the vehicle and the additional inconvenience and expense you have described. Your feedback will be taken seriously and the concerns you have raised will be shared with the relevant team for review.

Let down once again by the warranty …

Well after using them before and having the warranty argued every step of the way before they finally agree to pay something towards the fault, we went back and was promised that that wouldn’t happen again as they were either using a different warranty company or had bought it out!! My wife bought a Range Rover and has had it a year and the last 6 weeks it’s been in a garage racking up a £5k bill to which warranties2000 have agreed to pay £1k!!!

How do these companies get away with lying through their teeth tome and again and the customer is left with a large bill.

Will be taking it further

Hi Paul,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We are sorry to hear about the difficulties you and your wife have experienced with the vehicle and can appreciate how frustrating it must be to have the car off the road for such a prolonged period while facing a significant repair bill.

We understand your disappointment regarding the warranty contribution, particularly given your previous experience and your understanding at the time of purchase that the warranty arrangements would provide a different experience on this occasion.

We would, however, like to clarify that the warranty is subject to its own terms, conditions and claims process, and decisions regarding what is covered and the level of contribution are made in accordance with those terms. Big Motoring World does not determine the warranty provider's individual claims decisions.

We take your comments regarding what you say you were told at the time of purchase seriously. If information was provided to you that you believe was inconsistent with the actual warranty arrangements, we would want to review the circumstances and the documentation relating to the sale.

We also appreciate that having a vehicle off the road for six weeks is extremely disruptive, particularly when the repair costs are substantial. We are sorry that you feel you have been left with an unacceptable financial burden.

As you have indicated that you intend to take the matter further, we would not wish to debate the specifics of the warranty claim through a public review. We will, of course, engage with any formal complaint or dispute through the appropriate channels.

We are disappointed that your experience has left you feeling that you cannot rely on the support provided after purchase, particularly as you had previously purchased from us. We appreciate your feedback and hope the outstanding matter can be brought to a satisfactory resolution.

Kindest Regards,
Big Motoring World

We drove a 5 hour wasted round trip as…

We drove a 5 hour wasted round trip as they offered my car in part exchange between £22,500 and £20,000 on line. After choosing a car they then valued my low mileage very clean car at £17,000. Then they tried to do deals with their warranties, over pricing them at first then reducing the price significantly to make it look like they were offering me more money for my car. I was also paying cash for the remaining balance but the sales person told me to get a loan and use the cash for a nice holiday. I find this company has no morals and are set on selling their products rather than looking after the customer.
I do not recommend buying from this company.

Hi David,

We are sorry for your disappointment with your experience with us.

Unfortunately, the system currently used for valuations is very limited; the marketing and development team are looking into a new system for this. Along with this, the valuation is to be used as a guide only until viewed in person.

I do apologise for any disappointment that may have been caused by this. We also apologise for any inconvenience that the sales of additional products may have caused. I have passed this on to the relevant Management Teams so that this can be reviewed internally. Additional training will also be provided where necessary to ensure this does not happen again.

Very disappointing experience with Big…

Very disappointing experience with Big Motoring World’s finance offering.

I was quoted 12.9% APR, yet I’ve subsequently managed to secure 8.9% APR through an independent broker using the same finance company.

That left a very bad taste. If the same lender is prepared to finance the same customer and vehicle at a considerably lower rate through a broker, it naturally raises questions about how Big Motoring World’s finance rates are being set and whether customers are being offered genuinely competitive terms.

I appreciate dealerships need to make money, but I’d strongly recommend anyone buying from Big Motoring World shops around for finance independently before accepting their quote. The difference in my case was substantial and could amount to a significant amount of money over the term of the agreement.

Based on my experience, I certainly wouldn’t assume their finance offer is the best deal available to you.

Hi Taylor,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that you were disappointed with the finance options available to you through Big Motoring World.

We understand why securing a significantly lower APR elsewhere, particularly with the same finance provider, would raise questions and leave you feeling dissatisfied. Finance rates can vary depending on a range of factors and the specific products and arrangements available at the time an application is made. However, we appreciate that this does not change your experience or the substantial difference you identified.

We believe customers should have the information they need to make an informed decision and are sorry that our finance offering did not provide the value you expected. We appreciate your feedback and will ensure your comments are shared with the relevant team.

Thank you again for sharing your experience.

Why reserve when they sell it to someone else?

I reserved a car and paid the £99.00 holding fee. The manager Rochas? called me and told me that someone had come in and bought the car that I had reserved. When I protested he casually answered that it was a first come first served system. Actually I thought that it wasn’t. He didn’t offer any real compensation, just an insincere apology. Not a happy exchange I’m afraid. What do others think?

Poor handling of customers

Dear Big Motoring World After Sales Team,

After completing all the required checks and sending my findings to the After Sales Team as requested, I have received little to no response. More importantly, the severity of the issues I reported—particularly the condition of the brakes—does not appear to have been taken seriously.

The condition of the brakes is extremely concerning, and failing to address a serious safety issue such as this promptly is unacceptable. A vehicle’s braking system directly affects the safety of the driver, passengers and other road users, so I am extremely disappointed that this matter has been allowed to continue for so long.

It has now been almost six months since I purchased the car. On the day of collection, I raised several issues with the vehicle and was assured that they would be resolved promptly. Unfortunately, many of these issues remain outstanding despite my repeatedly chasing the After Sales Team for updates.

I feel that my concerns have been repeatedly overlooked, and this has left me without the vehicle I paid for in the condition I was promised. I am therefore asking for this matter to be treated as a priority and for the outstanding issues, particularly the brake-related safety concerns, to be resolved as soon as possible.

I would appreciate a clear response outlining what action will be taken and when I can expect these issues to be fully resolved.

I hope this can be dealt with promptly and satisfactorily so that I can safely enjoy the vehicle I paid for.

Hi Ikenna,

Thank you for sharing your concerns. We’re very sorry to hear about the difficulties you’ve experienced with your vehicle and, in particular, the delays and lack of communication you describe from our After Sales Team.

We take any concerns relating to vehicle safety, especially braking systems, extremely seriously. We understand how frustrating it must be to have raised these issues at the time of collection, completed the checks requested and provided the relevant information, only to feel that your concerns have not been dealt with promptly.

We’re also sorry that several issues remain outstanding almost six months after your purchase. This is clearly not the level of aftersales support we want our customers to receive, and we appreciate that repeated chasing without clear updates would be extremely disappointing.

We would like to ensure your case is reviewed by the appropriate management team, particularly given the safety concerns you have raised. Please provide your vehicle registration and relevant case details so that we can locate your records and investigate what has happened.

We apologise for the frustration caused and hope we can address the outstanding matters as quickly and appropriately as possible.

What an odd experience

This place is hilarious — it’s like walking into a low-budget soft-porn set, except instead of anything remotely exciting, there are naff leather sofas, ageing iMacs pretending to be something they’re not, and salesmen sitting behind a see-through wall, laughing and chatting on their phones.

We walked in wanting to look at the cars in the lot because, frankly, we didn’t even know what car we wanted yet. A perfectly reasonable approach, you’d think.

Apparently not.

Before we were allowed anywhere near an actual car, the “salesman” sat us down and launched into a detailed explanation of PCP and HP finance. We hadn’t looked at a car. We hadn’t chosen a car. We barely knew what we were doing there. Yet somehow we were already discussing how we were going to pay for the mystery vehicle we hadn’t even seen. It was like being asked how you’re going to finance dinner before you’ve looked at the menu.

Then came the next masterpiece: we were shown the exact same website we’d already looked at before arriving, with the salesman helpfully reading the information on the screen out loud to us. Because apparently our ability to read had also been put through the finance approval process.

Eventually, they brought a car out for us to look at. As we walked towards it, we were once again asked how we intended to pay for it.

I genuinely thought I’d wandered onto the set of a sitcom.

We finally got to the car and, while we were looking around it, the salesman stood in the corner watching us. Not helping. Not answering questions. Just… observing. Like a security guard at an art gallery waiting for someone to steal a Picasso.

We then asked if we could simply walk around the lot and look at the other cars. After another impressive amount of waffle from the “salesman”, he eventually agreed.

This is possibly the most backwards way I’ve ever seen anyone attempt to sell a car.

Let people into the lot. Let them look around. If something catches their eye, they’ll ask questions. It’s really not complicated.

And while you’re at it, maybe replace the soft-porn furniture in reception. The combination of shiny leather sofas, see-through walls and men laughing on their phones is… quite the first impression.

I'd probably avoid this place - I don't hold much hope the cars are inspected like they say anyway. All the old lease cars end up here and they're pretty battered.

Hi Christopher,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re sorry that your visit left you with such a negative impression.

We understand that, when you’re still deciding what type of car you want, you may simply want to browse the available vehicles before discussing finance or purchase options. We appreciate that being taken through finance information before you had even chosen a car could have felt overly sales-focused and frustrating.

Your comments about the way you were shown around, the interaction with the salesperson and your experience while viewing the vehicle have also been noted. Our aim is to make the buying process informative and comfortable, rather than making customers feel pressured.

We’re also disappointed to hear that the presentation of our showroom contributed to your overall impression. We’ll share your feedback with the relevant management team.

I came into big motoring world thinking…

I came into big motoring world thinking they were a very reputable dealer - at least that’s how they portrayed themselves - I bought a new golf GTI spending around 27 thousand pound outright and within the first week it was diagnosed with a major gearbox fault that required £1300 worth of repair in which their warranty covered less then half - my attempts to get into contact with big motoring world and the warranty were appalling and I was shunted from one to the other and it became a long tedious process - throughout this period I was left without my car for 2 weeks which impacted my ability to get to work and now even a month later they’re still “investigating” my case with little to no updates from big motoring world. The repairs took place at Volkswagen group who even criticised big motoring world for their poor customer care and their lack of vehicle care, the car came with empty brake fluid, low levels of oil and they did not even bother to wash the car before they handed the keys as they promised. I am now having to consider taking action by the country small courts proceeding as advised by my solicitor for the damages ensued from this garbage dealership, they will sell you a dream and shunt you out of their doors and after that they will forget about you, I would seriously urge all people reading this review to go instead to a main dealership as I have learnt now that this is common practice amongst most big motoring world dealerships

Hi Saif,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We’re genuinely sorry to hear how disappointed you have been, particularly given the significant investment you made in your Golf GTI and your expectations when purchasing from us.

We’re concerned to hear about the gearbox issue arising so soon after purchase, the time your vehicle was off the road and the difficulties you describe in getting clear communication regarding the warranty claim. We appreciate how disruptive being without your car for two weeks would have been, especially when it affected your ability to get to work.

We’re also sorry to hear about the concerns you’ve raised regarding the vehicle’s preparation and the condition of the fluid levels at the point of handover. These are matters we take seriously and would want to investigate with the relevant dealership and preparation team.

We understand from your review that you are now considering formal legal action. If that is the route you choose to take, we will respond through the appropriate formal channels. In the meantime, your comments regarding the handling of your case and communication have been noted and will be shared with the relevant teams.

We’re sorry that your experience has not reflected the level of service you expected, and we appreciate you bringing these concerns to our attention.

Extremely disappointing experience with Big Motoring World

I purchased my a Mercedes GLC from Big Motoring World in Maidstone around two years ago. As this was my first major purchase, I took the time to thoroughly inspect the car, carry out the necessary checks and take it for a test drive. Everything appeared to be in good condition, so I felt confident going ahead with the purchase.

Unfortunately, that confidence quickly disappeared. On the three-hour drive home, while travelling at around 70mph, the car began shaking noticeably. I later discovered that the wheels/tyres were imbalanced and the car required a wheel alignment.

I contacted Big Motoring World about the issue, but dealing with them was extremely difficult. What followed was months of back-and-forth emails, with me being sent to multiple places and having to repeatedly pursue the matter before they eventually agreed to refund me for the work that had been carried out. What was particularly frustrating was that I felt I had very little support or option to simply return the vehicle.

Unfortunately, the problems did not end there. The wheel alignment issue continued to reoccur roughly every 8–9 months. I have also experienced ongoing electrical issues with the vehicle.

More recently, the situation became even more serious when the car required an engine replacement. When the vehicle was inspected by the garage, I was told that the original Mercedes engine had apparently been glued on, which had subsequently resulted in foam and rust developing around the area.

For a purchase that was supposed to give me confidence and peace of mind, this has been an incredibly frustrating and expensive experience. As a first-time buyer making such a significant purchase, I expected much better customer service and, more importantly, a vehicle that was properly prepared and fit for purpose.

The way my original issues were handled left me feeling trapped with a car that continued to develop problems, and the recent findings regarding the engine have been particularly upsetting.

I would strongly encourage anyone considering purchasing from Big Motoring World to carry out as many independent checks as possible before committing to a vehicle. My personal experience has been extremely disappointing.

Hi Jannat,

Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed account of your experience. We’re genuinely sorry to hear how frustrating and costly this has been, particularly as this was your first major vehicle purchase.

We’re concerned to read about the issues you experienced shortly after collecting the Mercedes, as well as the difficulties you describe in getting the initial wheel and alignment problems addressed. We appreciate that having to go through months of correspondence and multiple referrals before reaching a resolution would have been extremely frustrating.

We’re also sorry to hear about the subsequent problems with the vehicle, including the electrical issues and, more recently, the engine replacement. The comments regarding the condition of the engine and the work identified by your garage are particularly concerning, and we would like to understand the circumstances surrounding this.

While we’re pleased that you ultimately received a refund for the initial work, we recognise from your comments that this did not address the wider concerns you had with the vehicle or the experience you received.

We’re sorry that your experience has fallen so far short of the confidence and peace of mind you should have been able to expect when making such a significant purchase.

Kindest Regards,
Big Motoring World
