The Hive in Ely could be a great place but...
It appears that whoever decides on the swimming pool layout likely has never swum before. The pool in the Hive, Ely can accommodate up to 8 lanes, yet they often merge 2 or 3 of these lanes, effectively wasting space.
Typically, the slow double lanes are occupied by 3-4 people, which averages out to 2 people per lane, while the faster lanes become totally overcrowded. Why merge lanes?! The reason is most likely simple: some staff seem too lazy to install the lane dividers. This is the only swimming pool where I’ve encountered such nonsense. Swimming here is not relaxing; it’s simply frustrating.
Furthermore, the hygiene in the male gym changing room is totally unacceptable. The taps are filthy, and the entire place has a strong smell of urine all the time. It really is not difficult, nor expensive to give the sinks/taps a good scrub with fairy liquid and mop the floors every so often.

Back after 12 years
I am on a physiotherapy rehab programme for my lower back and I haven't used a gym in 12 years due to having been diagnosed with heart failure. My induction was really good and I plan to continue building myself up after my rehab but I am apprehensive regarding my heart, however I was told that there is a cardiovascular programme i can go on at the gym so I am really excited about that.

I have found the gym, and staff to be excellent. Nice atmosphere, and support if you need it. Equipment, clean, well maintained and all other facilities available seem great.

Good experience
The experience has been good so far, however there are not enough machines for the amount of people there, which are essential. My suggestion is to expand the gym area and acquire more machines.

I recently went to better gym my experience was fantastic I asked them to show me around before I commit to myself honestly speaking I was thrilled how clean & tidy the gym was extremely happy I was looking for exactly the place where I can do swim/gym and sports facilities all the staff was very friendly and amazing no issues at all I joined and was given the induction next day very pleased with it and booked my classes straight away no issues at all I will be recommending it to my family & friends xx thanks everyone who helped me ❤️🌺

Hi I'm glad I joined - the staff are very recieving and other members polite. The one thing I would say - and that's why I didn't give full stars - is the way the showers work - I understand regarding water waste though perhaps a minute b4 having to press again- what do you think? Just to add - the 10 minute rule regarding arrival- I also understand the reasons why though could that not be slightly altered when it's the last swim for fitness session before everyone gets out - what do you think?

Poor induction,
The induction process was quite poor, especially if parents weren’t present than it is a quick tour around the gym. It seems that children accompanied by their parents had a better and more thorough induction, which ideally should be the standard for all minors joining the gym. The customer support when calling the general support line was excellent.

Have just cancelled my membership
Have just cancelled my membership. They appear to have turned the swimming pool into a nightclub at 11am. Ultra loud music and the worlds most irritating man whooping loudly every twenty seconds. The staffs attitude to a sound sensitive autistic adult was disgraceful. No empathy or understanding of autism at all.
