Aviva is the most horrid car insurance provider
Do NOT get your car insurance with Aviva. Avoid at all costs.
I was subject to a car crash on the 30th of Nov 2025 that was not my fault, my car was stationary at a junction, and I’m still waiting for the third party company that Aviva has appointed for their car insurance claims, to get past the first initial medical assessment properly. They have made countless mistakes and have totally ruined the process of my car crash claim.
The whole ordeal has been a nightmare to navigate and I’ve spent countless hours, weeks and months trying to get updates on the progress of my claim.
Aviva works with Carpenters, who have used a doctor that has lied on my GP medical report over 20 times. And Aviva has done nothing about this major fault that is affecting my claim. All they keep stating is that it’s an issue that lies with Carpenters, but I’m paying Aviva over £70 monthly for my car insurance for them to take accountability and control of nothing.
They have been utterly useless.
I’ve been waiting nearly 1 year for Aviva to properly and effectively coordinate my car crash claim. And since then my physical medical condition and mental health has spiralled as a result of this car crash and the aftermath of dealing with Aviva.
I’m majorly disappointed with Aviva’s service and lack of care for their customers that have been subjected to a car crash that wasn’t at all their fault.

Motor insurance customer service
Received a motor insurance quote from a comparison site great value no complaints.
Went onto the company website to continue with this quote, even upgraded certain aspects, that’s how competitive the quote was.
Got to the end showed I already had an account with Aviva so put in email address (username) and password. Come up accounts on hold, but it’s only a security check put in user name dob we’ll send an email to reset password.
No email sent checked junk but no email.
Phoned told them the issue was given another number. Phoned that number was told to speak to live chat.
Spoke with a supervisor (wont name) on live chat who tried to give me another number.
Told her this was unacceptable please someone phone me shouldn’t have to be making 4 calls and take 2 hours to take out a motor policy.
The supervisor called me, we went through the policy and payment details, gave my bank details to set up the monthly payments and was put through an automated system to take the deposit.
Put all the details in correctly on line was told I was going to be put back to the person but got cut off.
They called me back there was a problem with the system and the payment hadn’t gone through.
I was put through again to the automated system and put my details correctly in again.
Was returned this time to the supervisor but the payment still had not gone through.
What can we do next I asked. Well I’ll have to call you back tomorrow as my shift is finishing now.
I’m back at work tomorrow so may not have the time to speak to someone, especially if it takes nearly 2 1/2 hours as it has today.
Very competitive rates but shocking customer service all round.
Now I worry how their claims department is run should I ever need them, and still no policy.

I want to speak to a human with a brain - get it?
I just called customer service - or should I say customer frustration, customer fatigue or customer exasperation. And yes, I did try the chatbot first, which was completely futile. Why do these companies fob us off with hopeless AI bots and not provide genuine customer service? Do you know how ANNOYING it is to be told to call a number - on your own website - only to have to listen to reams of gobbledegook and back covering and then you are told to log back into the website to get help. I wouldn't be putting myself through the phone call if I could find what I wanted on the website. Seems you have to jump through a variety of hoops to actually speak to someone who can solve your problem. So, after a number of key presses trying desperately to reach a live human agent, I hung up - still with my problem - but in common with the majority of companies one has to deal with these days - no one cares.

Cancelling Auto Renew, Not Straightforward
Taking out car insurance with Aviva Zero was straightforward. No issues with what they offer or use of the portal, at least to check the policy. However, it would appear that I agreed to autorenewal, I don't recall doing so but maybe I did in error.
I received an email advising that £505 would be taken from my card on 23 Sept. In order to cancel this I could only do it on line which I did, after a lot of effort. I arranged alternative insurance. On 23 Sept I received an email confirming that my insurance had been renewed and charged accordingly.
It took over 30 mins trying to resolve this by typing messages back and forth. Eventually they agreed to refund the full amount, in 3-4 days. It's now 7 days and I am still waiting. I will not be renewing my house Insurance next year either.
I suggest that the option to cancel auto renew is made easier and not the convoluted loop that I got into. With an auto email when successful.

Misleading Quotes
The initial quote that I had accepted via "Confused.com" was £440.75 inclusive of legal cover increased to £467.51 once directed to your Aviva landing page exclusive of legal cover. Once I added this back on to your breakdown the quote then increased to £487.50! Being £46.75 higher than the original "all in" agreed quote.
I then queried this with your help desk and they said the quote of £440.75 was on the proviso that the customer would share their location data via the Aviva App, this information was not made clear on either the Confused.com or Aviva websites. The help desk stated they could not help me any further but advised me to complain.
24 hours later I went back to the website to go through the process again as I suspected there may be a glitch in the quoting system. This time the same process was followed and the same results followed accept this time the quote had risen to £492.22!
