Worked well for me over a decade ago, so trying it out again

I used Angel Investment Network a long time ago to look for Angels.

We found one, and that Angel has since invested about £0.5m across two businesses (but it started with a much smaller €30,000 investment).

Raising funds is stressful and can be disappointing, and the rule is that you have to kiss a lot of frogs to find your prince (and you might end up kissing a lot of frogs and never finding a prince).

A lot of the reviews here seem to come from people who are disappointed by lack of engagement, and even more by the slightly sketchy way the money back guarantee terms are set up (really Angel Investment Network, fix them, at least so that the 5 day notice requirement doesn't apply - I could be wrong, but that just seems designed to give you a few days to drum up some pseudo interest and avoid the extension/refund).

Anyway, my experience was a 4 star experience (5 star outcome, but that could have been luck) and I wanted to post a review, even 13 years later because I don't want people with solid business concepts to be put off by reviews that are mostly from people who didn't get any engagement, but who's pitches might, sadly, not have merited any.

I am going to try again, knowing that my pitch is solid, that I now have over a decade of experience building credible companies that have earned £millions globally from Fortune500 customers, and that my past investors are comfortable investing again this time round. If the experience is different this time (like it's all tumbleweeds after posting the pitch, or I'm swamped with interest from suspect profiles), I'll update here.

One last thing, I wish AIN didn't just post testimonials, I wish they posted actual performance data. Perhaps they do, but if they do it's not obvious where. If they're relying on over-optimistic first time entrepreneurs paying a monthly fee to just get ignored, that's sketchy. They should adjust the business model so that they're not relying on exploiting that tier of fund raisers, and instead aim to make more revenue from fewer, more credible prospects.

Hi, many thanks for the largely positive review. Just to clarify - the 5 day notice requirement in our refund policy is not to avoid the extension/refund. In fact, this ensures we have enough time to process the customer's extension/refund request before their next subscription payment is taken. Before we added this clause, we used to get even angrier complaints from people saying "I was going to ask for an extension/refund, and you've just charged me again". I hope that clarifies things.

Refund policy not honored

I paid for a premium subscription to be connected with investors. Their refund policy clearly states that if you respond to the investors introduced and submit your request within the required timeframe, you get refunded. I followed every single step: I engaged with the contacts provided (one of whom asked for sensitive personal information without clear identification, raising serious concerns), requested a free renewal on February 26th, then formally requested a refund on March 27th. I followed up on April 10th and April 21st. Not a single response in over 6 weeks. I have now opened a chargeback with my bank. If you are considering this service, be aware that their refund guarantee is not honored and their customer support is completely unresponsive.

Hi Malo, I checked our system and your payment was refunded. We emailed you confirming this and then sent a follow-up email to check that you've received the funds, but we didn't receive a response from you.

Customer service is excellent

My experience was unusual, in that a loved one fraudulently used my financial information to gain access. I worked with Jim via email over several days, across the holidays and explained the situation and he ultimately was able to discuss with Marisa. They worked to get a full refund made to me on my credit card. I appreciated the willingness to discuss with me and get refund so that I did not have to open up a fraud case with my credit card company. Kudos for excellent customer service, patience and understanding.

⭐ 1-Star Review

⭐ 1-Star Review — “Founders, be careful.”

I recently tried using Angel Investment Network, and the experience was extremely disappointing. Within hours of creating a profile, my inbox was filled with spam, questionable “investor” messages, and obvious scam attempts. None of the leads were legitimate, and not a single conversation came from a verified or credible investor.

The platform appears to prioritize volume over quality, and as a founder building fast, this became an immediate distraction and waste of time.

If you're a serious startup looking for actual investors, I strongly recommend avoiding this platform. There are far better, safer, and more effective ways to connect with real investors.

This is my honest experience — posting it so other founders can save their time and stay focused on building.

Full of scammers

Unfortunately the website is filled with scammers. They won’t admit it, even-though I’ve sent them enough proof. Their customer service was good at first until I started showing them proof of the scammers that contacted me and asked for refund. They don’t honor their own refund rules. I’ve been bombarded with emails from scammers. The only way for them to get my email is if they were part of the platform, which they are. According to one of employees they found my email online, which is laughable because my email isn’t public.
Waiting for a refund on a Global-Pro subscription purchased on 02.11. and 50 nudges that brought nothing but scammers.

Given how few resources startups have this price with without any guarantees apart from their “money back” guarantee is a bit of a joke.. don’t use waste of money.

Losing money, don't waste your money and time on them!

I paid for the tariff for the whole time, no one contacted me, the platform wrote that allegedly 2 people were interested, I wrote them letters at the same hour that I was ready to familiarize myself with the project in more detail, but these turned out to be bots that do not respond to messages at all. The company also does not warn that if you paid once, then funds will be debited from you without notifications until you discover that this is a subscription! I wrote to support about a refund, but no one responded! Do not waste time and money paying these guys money!

A complete scam and predatory refund…

A complete scam and predatory refund policy that they do not honor. I joined the site 3/14/2025 and noticed the "investors" sent my way were either not vetted or not real, no real business profile. Then my business plan was downloaded by who knows, I looked and it was some empty linkedIn profile. I did not receive any communication from the profile before the download and therefore no longer felt safe on the site. I then specifically sent an email and stated I didn't feel safe and wanted to be removed from the site and refunded. I was only on the site for about two weeks. WELL BEFORE THE 5 DAY REQUEST. You think they honored my request for removal and refund? No, they sent another email trying to get me to stay in which I YET AGAIN stated I didn't feel safe. Fast forward I get another charge for renewal 4/12/2025 while thinking this company had the integrity to honor my request for removal. Then they say, renewal charges are non-refundable. If this isn't predatory I don't know what is. Who in their right mind will want to be renewed after not feeling safe, what makes a company think they can renew someone after they requested to be removed. They wouldn't refund me so I went through my credit card in which Angel Invest tried to send documentation over (excluding the email where I requested the removal and refund - that page you couldn't read) - I then sent over my documentation including what I requested. Very shameful to go after and scam startups. I will do the same as the prior customer and seek legal action because obviously they continue to do this and may be making a lot of money off the backs of those who are trying. I will fight till the end to receive my refunds. I suggest anyone who has an issue with Angel Investment to file a claim with BBB.

Disappointing and unsafe experience

I signed up for the Pro package expecting access to genuine investors, but what I encountered was far from that. I was contacted outside the platform by individuals posing as investors, only to discover they were actually loan sharks. Despite cancelling my subscription, money was still taken from my account. I've sent multiple emails and provided proof of cancellation, yet all I receive is a generic response stating that they cannot issue a refund. All they can offer is “50 nudges”, which is ridiculous

Extremely disappointed and concerned by the lack of integrity and accountability. Would not recommend.

Poor value, underhand subscription tactics, no support

I signed up for the Pro package expecting genuine visibility to investors. Despite a well-crafted pitch and upgraded listing, I received no engagement.

Worse still, this platform uses underhand subscription tactics: no renewal reminders, no invoice at the time of second payment, and a rigid refund policy that relies on people forgetting to cancel in time.

When I asked for a refund, they hid behind technicalities in their terms rather than making any effort to resolve the issue.

A quick scan of other reviews reveals I’m far from the only one. Very disappointing experience. I do not recommend this platform to other entrepreneurs. There are far better, more transparent services out there.

I have also submitted a complaint to the ACCC as AIN's underhand tactics are not in line with fair and ethical subscription services.

SCAM....Do not use

SCAM....Do not use

They have a money back guarantee if its unsuccessful. The trouble is, it's impossible to get your money back. I've been trying to get a refund but they have made it intentionally difficult by putting impossible hoops for you to jump through. I should've looked at the reviews before it seems there are loads of others experiencing the same thing.

I suspect the profiles on the platform are bots or not genuine. I got one message from one person, who was essentially a loan shark.

Very disingenuous company trying to leach of startups. Don't waste your money, use it to grow your startup!

Hi Jack, you don't need to jump through impossible hoops. If you don’t get any genuine interest during your first subscription period, you just need to send us an email, and we’ll help re-write your pitch and list it for another 30 days free of charge. You just need to make sure you email at least 5 days before the renewal date, so we have time to work on your pitch before the subscription renews automatically. If you still don’t have any luck after the free listing, we’ll send your money back. Again, you just need to make sure you email at least 5 days before the renewal date, so we have time to issue the refund before the subscription renews automatically.

Waste of time and money

This is a platform which seems to be filled with lots of brokers. The base fee to get listed is expensive with no guarantees. Complained to the CEO who gifted us some 'nudges'. These also did not work even though these investors had listed our specific sector in their profile.

I would avoid completely and find a platform that charges a success fee - even if it is higher in £££ terms, it is a sign that they back themselves

Hi David, We do allow some brokers to use the platform as long as they don't charge upfront fees of any kind. We understand these connections won't be of interest to everyone, but some people find them useful. This website should be closed down.

You sign up and pay for global exposure and get nothing except one person saying I am not going to invest because I dont invest in this kind of business. Right.... So whey did you bother to message me? Because this is a fake investor and so the company (AIN) can register this as a response to your pitch. 60% random investors not UK and US. Fake accounts. Unless you are going to provided a link to there LinkedIn profile this website should be closed down.

Hi Charles,

The investor sent you that message, because you sent him a connection request, so he responded to give an explanation why your opportunity wasn't right for him ("I like to see first customers and some traction before it becomes interesting for me").

A lot of the investors include links to their LinkedIn profiles, but others prefer to stay a bit more "anonymous" until they get into more detailed discussions with entrepreneurs. It's the same with entrepreneurs - some are willing to publish absolutely everything on their pitch page, but others choose to not to publish certain details/documents, as they only want to share that info later in the process.

If you have issues with any of the investors on our platform, you should obviously send us details straight away, so we can investigate and deactivate their account if necessary.

Unclear I asked to cancel immediately after reading reviews and yet they still took “autorenewal” money out even though on the portal said I was on the free subscription I kept checking and they refused a refund. Hi Louise,

I have checked our CRM system, and can see that you cancelled your Global Pro subscription on 21st January, but then reactivated your subscription on the Pro package on 13th February.

As a gesture of goodwill, I have refunded your renewal payment. Please note: It can take up to 10 working days for the refund to appear in your account.

I've checked the 2 investors that we connected you with, and they both look genuine. They've both been member of our network for some time and we've never received any negative feedback about either of them. However, if you have any issues with the investors that we connect you with, please do send us details, so we can look into it.

Glad I came here first + OMG what I just realised whilst writing this review!

As the sole owner of an EdTech startup and in eagerness to press on with my business, I came across angelinvestmentnetwork.

Always sceptical of money being offered in any form online, I done my due diligence and came here first and I'm very glad I did, because it has saved me a lot of time and money. Funny i'm now using that time to write this review, my hope is that AIN will act on it and make these policies more obvious and accesible.

Another review explains how the "packages" are found at the end of the sign-up process. I also didn't see any mention of billing or being charged until after a very long sign-up process. After entering your personal info and signing-up, you are prompted to enter:
"Pitch
Financials
Logo
Website
Highlights
Team
Deal
Short Summary
Images
Video
Docs"

After you input all this information "packages".

First thing on this page,
"Money back guarantee
If you don’t get any genuine interest, we’ll issue a full refund! *Please see our refund policy for more information."

Where it says "refund policy", is just plain text.
It would be super helpful if the text actually linked to the refund policy. In fact, the refund policy cannot be found on this page at all!

Lets review the "refund policy".

This can found in section 2 "pitch & deal" of your proposal, in FAQ.. right at the bottom. As another reviewer notes, "buried in the fine print". How dare AIN respond to this calling it untrue, it absolutely is true.

This policy 100% feels shady and wrong to me.

Regarding the first point, the requirement to contact all investors they connect you with.

1)Why is this a requirement?
2)How many investors could this be?
3)Is there a limit/maximum number of investors to which this will be enforced? For example if AIN connects me with 20, or 200, or 1000 investors?; does this policy stand the same? Would I be required to contact 1000 investors before asking for a refund?

It get's worse..

"2) 𝘛𝘰 𝘳𝘦𝘲𝘶𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘢 𝘧𝘳𝘦𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘸𝘢𝘭, 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘦𝘮𝘢𝘪𝘭 𝘶𝘴 𝘢𝘵 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘵 5 𝘥𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘦𝘯𝘥 𝘰𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘧𝘪𝘳𝘴𝘵 𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨."

Another review mentions how this is easy to miss and be billed unfairly. AIN response to this review?

"𝘐𝘯 𝘧𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦, 𝘐 𝘴𝘶𝘨𝘨𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘱𝘢𝘺 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘶𝘱 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘪𝘤𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘢𝘷𝘰𝘪𝘥 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘢𝘥𝘥 𝘢 𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘢𝘳 𝘵𝘰 𝘤𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘭 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘴𝘶𝘣𝘴𝘤𝘳𝘪𝘱𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘪𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘥𝘰𝘯'𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘪𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘶𝘦."

So basically tough luck? If you don't request this 5 days before the end of term your £199 (cheapest paid subcription) is gone!? What a terribly rude response.

"𝘐𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘥𝘰𝘯’𝘵 𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘺 𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘶𝘪𝘯𝘦 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘥𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘧𝘪𝘳𝘴𝘵 𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 (𝘪.𝘦. 𝘪𝘧 𝘯𝘰 𝘪𝘯𝘷𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘴 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘤𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘰𝘳 𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘢𝘨𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘺𝘰𝘶), 𝘸𝘦’𝘭𝘭 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘱 𝘳𝘦-𝘸𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘱𝘪𝘵𝘤𝘩 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘵 𝘪𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘢𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 30 𝘥𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝘧𝘳𝘦𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘨𝘦"

"Genuine interest" is ambiguous and open to interpretation, so i'm glad AIN goes on to explain "if no investors contact you OR engage with you."

The word "or", would suggest an investor does not need to contact you, rather, they simply need to "engage with you", leaving you ineligible for the free renewal.

1)What does "engage with you" mean in this context?

OK Last page, last chance.

"𝘔𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘺 𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘨𝘶𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘦

Found above where you enter details for checkout, Again.. no link to the T&C's!

To clarify:

If 1 "investor" "engages" with you, you cannot get a "free renewal" >
YOU WILL NOT GET A REFUND

The costs are clearly explained on the rates page on our website at https://www.angelinvestmentnetwork.co.uk/refunds. There is a link to this page:
1) in the "Help" menu, which appears at the top of every page on our website.
2) In the footer, which appears at the bottom of every page on our website.

There is also a link to our refund policy:
1) in the "Help" menu, which appears at the top of every page on our website.
2) In the footer, which appears at the bottom of every page on our website.

If an entrepreneur doesn't manage to connect with any investors and emails us before the deadlines, they will always receive a refund. For the sake of transparency, we issued 22 refunds last month and have already issued 3 refunds this month.

Apologies if you thought our response to a previous review was rude, but it's obviously very frustrating when people make false and damaging accusations against us, such as:
1) hiding the costs when this simply isn't the case
2) being shady and not issuing refunds when they have no idea if this is true or not

It's the best out there, for freedom in pitching, but it needs a strong pitch, and that might take time to arrive at

Now, these reviews are all very confusing.
And I reckon there might be an effort to rebalance them by inviting people to write reviews. But sure why wouldn't you do that if you've had happy customers and get some reviews like this.

I've been using AIN now for 3 years, we haven't yet yielded from it, but we have got interest. Yes, it's paywalled - but being reasonable, and again honest, I've imagined what it must be like dealing with budding and excitable entrepreneurs - I guess it'd be similar to working on the London Underground, or a tour bus in Dublin. Every day, a fresh set of people, and every day the same messages on repeat - not easy.

It's a legitimate site, but of course, despite their best efforts, it's a magnet for catfish. And we've had one and we wasted a lot of time on that. But AIN have good due dil, and they do well, the majority of investors on here are real. But of course, also dormant some times.

So in summary, what a tough gig they have, and in reality - of course you're going to paywall the functions. It'd be impossible to help everyone new who comes to the site, and it's a fresh set of giddy business owners who think they've just invented the new sliced bread. And honestly think, and probably know in their souls that they're on to something.

But if I look at how we evolved from there, a few years ago, we really did think we could just pop a pitch up, build it and they would come. Many scars, tears and bruises later, weather-beaten, broke, traumatised entrepreneurs, our proposition now does look good.

And it's starting to click and what's also starting to click is that AIN do a good job, but you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Give them a silk purse, and maybe it'll work.

When AIN have messed up, they accept it and they helped us - and not knowing the results of that, yet - I'm here to say, I dunno what'll happen.

But the site is legit, their business model is good, and fair, and based on real investors.

And you get to use it without a beauty contest, like most investment sites. And get to drive your own pitch how you want to.

And that is rare, valuable.

As long as you know how to drive.

So they totally deserve 5 stars.

I wouldn't want to be in their shoes, and they wear them well :)

SCAM ALERT!!!

SCAM ALERT!!!
They create fake accounts from random people on the internet to get you to pay for their database of investors.

Dishonesty will blow up in your face someday!
Try searching the profile images on Google Image Search. Then find their LinkedIn and you will see those random people are not even into investment and they're from different locations.

Shame on you!

Update (In response to their comments):

1. If you have any doubt, find those "investors" on LinkedIn and ask them personally if they've created an account on this website. Let me know how many "yes" you get.
2. They're so fake that sometimes the picture doesn't match the name. They scrape the web and import pictures and names. So, that's why their scraper script makes mistakes.

This company need to be banned to do business in the U.S.

I can guarantee you that we do not create fake accounts and do not use a scraper script. The only way to create an investor account is to sign up using the registration form on our website.

There are obviously many possibly reasons for the location discrepancy:
- Some people split their time between multiple locations.
- Some people register with us using their home city/country, but their LinkedIn profile displays the city/country where they're currently working.
- Some people register in countries that they're about to move to (or thinking of moving to), so they can explore business opportunities there.

I'm also very surprised to hear that you found profiles with different names, as we use reverse image searches ourselves as part of our verification process. If you contact us to let us know which profiles you're referring to, we will obviously investigate.

Also, saying that they're not even into investment is ridiculous. Anyone can become an angel investor. You don't need to be an investment professional to invest in startups.

Waste of Money

Angel Investment Network: A Complete Scam That Preys on Entrepreneurs

Angel Investment Network sounds like the perfect place to connect with investors, but my experience has been nothing short of a disaster. After eagerly signing up, I was promised a network of investors ready to engage with innovative businesses. Instead, what I got was a series of dead-end leads and complete radio silence from investors. Not a single viable investment opportunity came from it.

But the real scam reveals itself in their billing practices. They use recurring billing without providing any reminders—it's all very hush-hush until you notice the unexpected charge on your account. When I asked for a refund, I was told I should have canceled 5 days before the renewal date, which is buried in the fine print. No notice, no courtesy reminder—just a sneaky way to milk more money from entrepreneurs.

Their refund policy is basically non-existent. Instead of offering any help or support, they stick to their predatory terms and wash their hands of any responsibility. This platform yielded zero results for me and turned out to be a total waste of time and money.

If you're an entrepreneur looking for funding, stay far away from Angel Investment Network. It’s nothing more than an expensive trap that gives you false hope and takes your money without any accountability. Avoid at all costs!

Hi Lara,

The recurring was clearly explained at several points throughout the registration, submission and payment process:
- In our T&C's
- On the rates page
- On the page where you chose your package
- On the checkout page
- In the payment confirmation email

The payment confirmation email also included a link to our refund policy with a reminder to check it out to ensure you understand the terms and procedures.

Our refund policy is deliberately short and easy to understand, so it's very unfair to say the cancellation terms are "buried in the fine print."

In future, I suggest you pay more attention when signing up to services to avoid disappointment and add a note to your calendar to cancel your subscription in time if you don't want it to continue.

Poor reviews put me off

I did invest time in preparing my company profile area and was about to purchase, however, given I was greeted by a payment wall once I finished my profile I decided to read reviews. I was put off the purchase as some felt familiar with the process I just went through. Bailing on checkout there is a free version offered beforehand with no branding or company naming allowed including the removal of any company identifiers from the pitch deck. (is there any point?, wasted time and effort) I can't give an opinion about the platform post purchase but reading the reviews pushed me to read about the refund policy. Looks like a lot of hoops and jumps through time rings to get your money back. The reviews confirmed this. Looked promising but no thanks. If there wasn't so many negative reviews I could have been a customer.
