TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE UNLESS YOU SPEAK JAPANESE

Great site, TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SUPPORT UNLESS YOU CHAT IN JAPANESE. I ordered a $100 worth of Japanese books which got delayed and possibly lost in the mail. My order showed that I could ask for an immediate refund BUT the English-speaking customer service emailed to say that I needed to contact the shipping service directly and that "If they tell you that they lost your package, then please have them contact us directly at Amazon.co.jp." Really? Japanese-speaking chat service refunded me immediately.

Very shady

Very shady. I’m in USA. Received $220 defective item that I was fine with exchanging. But their system doesn’t do that, so I purchased the same item again at $220 in full faith they would be as reputable as Amazon USA or Amazon UK. Nope, they make you pay out of pocket to return only and only reimburse up to $90 and they require you to only use DHL. Well, DHL is $150 to ship back out of pocket. Tell me, HOW SHADY IS THAT? How is this allowed to be called “Amazon”. Why is there no Amazon “Corporate” that can handle company world wide issues in order to maintain their quality of service and values? If I were well off, I would just eat this cost and call it a day. I’m now $450 in the hole and can’t sell the defective item for same purchase price. I’m going to post this all over the internet so people know, do not trust Amazon. Just because it says “Amazon”, the same quality of service and basic fairness is not respected or to be trusted. Only option with all this is more headache to do a credit card cancel charge due to seller fraud

Horrible Book "Packaging" - Stay Away.

I'm in Canada. Amazon Japan used to ship books in boxes - not anymore. Now, even if you purchase multiple books in a single order, they throw all of them in a paper or cardboard envelope for shipment (via DHL) and you'll end up with a beat up mess which you then have to return for a refund (wasting your time in the process). Btw, they won't fully refund your return shipping fee if it is above a certain amount; for anything above that amount they issue you a gift card so that you can use it to buy more books which they will then ship in an envelope and the whole process gets repeated. Insanity. Amazon Japan has now fully transitioned to a corporate entity where as far as they’re concerned, you don’t exist — you’re just a number, some bits and bytes moving through their data center, nothing more. If you're a book buyer do yourself a favor and stay away from this company. You'll save yourself time and frustration.

They are the worst

They are the worst. I wanted to return my items back for a refund but they make you pay for shipping. It’s very expensive especially since they make you uses dhl. It’s almost as much as the items cost. They refuse to budge on paying for the shipping. It doesn’t matter if they pay it back it’s ridiculous that you have to pay for shipping especially if it cost 100 to 200 plus dollars. The items might ship fast and packaged well but the return process is ridiculous. I will never buy from them again.

review about the third party seller's…

Uploaded my negative review regarding this third party seller (eおもちゃやさん) who sold me a poor condition item with poor level of packaging, Amazon Japan simply removed my negative feedback. So don't trust those sellers with high rating as Amazon Japan only publishes the good ones. Their rating system is truly unreliable .....will not be making any purchase from this platform with unethical practice. I strongly believe this 3rd party seller (eおもちゃやさん) is getting rid of those less ideal condition goods by selling them to international customers.

Very disappointed with Amazon Japan…

Very disappointed with Amazon Japan service recently.
First point is expired day products. They accepted to sell very much short expired day items and you can't return such products. Once you received you must eat!! until tommorow otherwhise the product is expired. And price for such products is same! Just half year before Amazon has been accepted return short expired day items. NOW - NOT. Suppose bussiness is going down and they are trying to increase profit using such way. Unhappy people will move to Rakuten, but Amazon doesnt care about that. Alright. It is time to move to Rakuten.
Bye byee Amazon!

Love Amazon.jp but HORRIBLE packaging

I regularly shop with Amazon.jp and recently, I've been getting more and more disappointed and annoyed at the horrible packaging of my orders. When I first started shopping with Amazon.jp, items would be wrapped in plastic, attached to a piece of cardboard that was glued to the inside of the cardboard box -- this prevented items from damage during transit. Unfortunately, they don't seem to do this anymore. I have received numerous packages in the past six months that were completely taped up by DHL due to the extensive damage, packages that had no protection inside (causing significant damage to certain items, like books), heavy packages sent in paper envelopes that arrived completely torn in the side... The cardboard boxes they use are very thin and cannot withstand much impact without completely tearing or collapsing.

Today, I received a package that was actually not even closed properly! One side of the box was completely opened. It wasn't even torn, it didn't seem like the box was properly constructed together in the first place. The items were wrapped in plastic thankfully, but I was horrified that this box was completely opened upon arrival. I was very lucky that there wasn't much in the box in the first place. If they had packaged it like they have been recently (just leaving items in a box), I surely would have lost MANY items in transit.

Made a pre order only item

Made a pre order only item. 10 months later when it became available, the item was shipped to the wrong address (delivery picture shows that it ended up in some rando's house), and now I cannot get my hands on it anymore. I dont need a refund, i just want the product.

I made my first order 2 weeks ago

I made my first order 2 weeks ago, Its kinda a mixed bag but overall I am happy. They dont have a lot of the stuff I want, but when they do, I do not have to pay extra handling or auction ending fees unlike on japanese bid sites, which could cost 50% to 100% on top of the sale price. The good thing about amazon japan is you just pay for the merchandise + shipping, thats it. And the shipping cost isnt killer either. I ordered 2 magazines from 2 different sellers. One came ultra quick and one was rather slow, but both arrived safely and the condition of the used magazine was very good. I will keep my eye out on amazon japan for stuff I want from now on.

untrustworthy prime membership fraud

I was about to put in an order for delivery. At checkout of delivery It told me that if i signed up for prime I could receive the shipment 1 week earlier.

The moment after I signed up, they removed the option for the quick delivery on the item. And now they charge me 500 yen for prime.

This is not only illegal it is a shameful thing for a company like amazon to do. I have spent thousands of dollars through amazon and this is not how they should handle customers.

When everything else fails, Amazon JP delivers!

I am located in Italy, and the Japanese bookstore I used to buy from stopped shipping overseas, while Japan Post raised their shipping rates, so I decided to use Amazon Japan though I'm not a fan of Amazon in general (I think we should support small businesses).

The shipping was very fast (It took only 3 days from Japan to Italy), but I was shocked to find that the 3 books I bought had been shipped without much protection, so they could have been easily damaged. Usually everything I buy from Japan is super protected with cardboard and bubble-wrap... but not Amazon Japan!

I was lucky that that the packet was well handled by the courier, but it was really a matter of luck. So keep it in mind if you buy delicate items...

Damaged items

They literally will not post items in a way that the items don't get damaged in transit. Every single time. Then you either have to accept it or mess about paying return postage and having to repurchase items for more money.

Terrible Return Policy, Customer Service Ignores You and Consistent Lying

I have had great experience with Amazon USA, easy returns.

I decided to import a product on Amazon Japan and the shipping to me was done well enough. When I received the item it was broken. I sent an email to Amazon and they asked to do drop shipping. I assumed it would be a simple task, but I sure was wrong.

While on Amazon USA, you just drop off an item at the UPS, Amazon Japan wants you to pay out of your pocket for the shipment. I was fine and thought it would be reasonable. I just lost my job because of Covid, not too much spare money (this was a pre-order item from before the pandemic), I was shocked to find out they were charging me over 280 dollars to ship it back while Amazon Japan only wanted to refund me 120 dollars.

Of course I emailed them back and explained my situation. All Amazon Japan did was delay the shipment back but still expects me to pay to ship an item they sent broken out of my own pocket. Later they budged and increased the payout (still not enough to cover it) but made up lies that there is a glitch in their computer that wouldn't let them cover the full shipment. Imagine that. How convenient.

Now they've basically stopped answering my emails and have told me to pay up the shipment back or pay full price for the broken device they sent.

Amazon Japan is ran like garbage, don't trust them.

Great experience

Great experience
I was skeptical of purchasing, but my friends assured me that I would definitely have a pleasant experience. And I'm glad that I trusted them and went ahead. Their service was amazing and the shipping was really fast and hassle free. I'll be looking forward to more purchases from them.

Great service!

I have shopped at Amazon.com, .uk, .de, .se, but amazon.co.jp is so far the best.

Placed an order during weekend, got a notification to fix my card info on Sunday night, and the parcel was immediately shipped out on Monday morning. Received the product on Wednesday at 11:00am in Sweden!
I'm super satisfied with their service (and thank you DHL)!
