Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 58 reviews, most reviewers were unhappy with their experience overall. Many people found the helpline and customer service unhelpful, reporting difficulties reaching actual people and encountering dismissive advisors who seemed unwilling to understand their issues. Reviewers frequently encountered staff with poor attitudes, who appeared impatient, lacked compassion, or were rude during interactions. Customers also expressed concerns about high prices for services, feeling they were being overcharged or taken advantage of for basic assistance. Additionally, some services were perceived as limited in scope or quality, such as not providing practical assistance or failing to acknowledge communications. However, some customers also noted positive interactions with staff, describing them as kind, friendly, and helpful. These individuals appreciated the effort made by certain employees to assist them with their needs, often going out of their way.

Dear Elizabeth,

Thank you for your kind review, I'm so pleased to hear that Age UK were able to support you in this way.

It sounds like you've had support from your local Age UK service instead of us here at Age UK the national charity.

Here at Age UK the national charity, we work in partnership with local Age UK services, however they do each operate as separate and independent charities responsible for their own products and services. We at the national charity are not a “Head Office” or governing body, and we do not manage any local or national partner, so if you were wishing to leave feedback for the service, you would need to get in touch with them directly or on their own Trust Pilot page. You can find contact information for your local Age UK service via a simple postcode search over on our website and linked here: https://www.ageuk.org.uk/services/in-your-area/

Here at Age UK, the national charity, we mainly work on providing high quality information and guidance through our national Advice Line where we also guide our service users through a benefits eligibility check to ensure they are receiving the help they are entitled to. We also focus on building valuable companionships through our Telephone Friendship services, as well as campaigning and researching for better health, wellbeing services and financial support for older people in England.

I hope this information is helpful to you and thank you once again for taking the time to leave such wonderful feedback.

With warm wishes

Useless Our mum is suffering from dementia and…

Our mum is suffering from dementia and was coming to live with us. We contacted ageuk several times and nobody got back to us. We took mum to an ageuk centre where they were giving out information face face to make sure they had everything they needed to know about our situation and the woman took down all our details and said 'leave it with me and we'll get this sorted' - nobody got back to us. This has been going on for weeks. They have proven themselves to be absolutely useless, to put it kindly. Having given contributions to the charity countless times, I would never do so again. This is dispicable, especially when one reads of the financial officer being jailed for fraud of £400,000 and the chief executive earning in excess of £200,000 per year. Outrageous.

Dear AI Jeffery, thank you for being in touch with us here at Age UK, the national charity. I was sorry to read of your experience whilst seeking help for your mum. It sounds like perhaps you were speaking to a local Age UK, as we don't run any day centres from the national charity. I would love to try to help you, and wondered if you would be able to send me further details to our feedback email address, which is feedbackatageuk@ageuk.org.uk along with your best contact details so I can look into this further for you?
All best wishes, Claire, Age UK.

Age UK - proud to be a sponsor

Spoken to a lovely today and the valuable work going into supporting vulnerable older adults. Was happy to sponsor Age UK on a monthly basis to contribute to all the hard work sponsored by Age UK. I feel deeply saddened by the fact that so much money is going into supporting this service by the government.

Obligatory Lunch Payment

Their "Day Centres" in my area is only 4 hours. Their website does not tell you that their is a charge for the lunch mentioned. The lunch is obligatory and costs £8 per week and you are only allowed 4 absences, the other 48 have to be paid whether you want it or not. Basically they are not offering care/help for the elderly - it is jyst a moneymaking organisation

My Mum

Maybe I caught them on a bad day however when my mother was poorly and bed ridden I called them for help and advice and to be honest my experience was very poor. I found the member of staff dismissive and basically stand offish. I merely needed help with who to turn too but quickly learnt they didn’t really care! I ended up calling Kent adult services and was very lucky to be appointed a wonderful lady who ensured my mother’s last remaining months were as good as anyone would hope! Thanks Kent Adult Social Services but no thanks to Age UK……..the adverts on tv don’t impress me!!

Hi Warren, thanks for getting in touch and I am very sorry that your experience with us was such a bad one and for any distress this must have caused. I would love to investigate this further, as we pride ourselves on our Advice services and helping as many older people as we can. I am not sure if you are referring to our National Line or a local Age UK, but would you mind emailing me at feedbackatageuk@ageuk.org with some more details, such as which line you called on and if it is our national line, do you know the date and approximate time, so we can listen to the call. This kind of feedback is very important to ensure our standards are kept high at all times. We would like the opportunity to respond to this so hope to hear from you soon. Also, please accept my sincere condolences for your loss. With best wishes, Marie, Age UK

Terrible company

Terrible company. They start to dictate what you can and can't do in your own home! While at the same time raking in the money. Remember that people are paying your wages! The so called "Carers" don't do their jobs properly anyway. They are lazy and incompetent.

I did but very little empathy and understanding there. It's like talking to a brick wall. All they are bothered about is getting the money. Hardy any senior management are ever in the office. Most of the time the phones are not even manned. Answer phone mainly.

There are few with natural caring and empathy. That is part of someone's personality, and few have those qualities.

Someone really caring would have got back asap if a customer had issues regarding the service. Someone in a senior position. Would have said "Sorry to hear there are issues that are concerning you. I'm here to help, and hopefully get things resolved. Can you tell me what has gone wrong and is bothering you? Rest assured we are here to help"

Instead all you get, assuming there are times you can actually get through on the phone, is someone answering who sounds bored and half asleep, wanting to just get out of the office, telling you they will pass on to a coordinator. You never hear anything else. People just don't care at all. In an organisation like AgeUK caring should be at the forefront. I think it's a very sad reflection of these times.

Age uk no help.

I have been staying with my mother as has she not been very well.
And have phoned age uk a number of different times over the past week only to be told my local branch in Sutton is not working and to be transferred to the main branch.
This line sounds terrible it tells you waiting time is 60sec even after 5 minutes and after getting though then to be told you will have to ring your local branch..
Not good.

Âge UK - appropriate name?

I received an email from Age UK inviting me to apply for car insurance ( due shortly).
I completed their form on line and received the message that they could not insure me due to my age. I am 76 and have a clean licence with no claims for at least 12 years.

So, Age UK will not insure drivers in their mid 70s! What’s in a name? Seemingly not a lot!

Hello

Thank you for taking time to leave us a review. I am sorry to learn that you were declined a quote for Age Co Car Insurance and can appreciate your concerns that the reason for the decline was advised to be your age.

Age Co is the trading arm of Age UK and we work with trusted product partners, who are specialists in their field, to provide a range of products and services intended to help our customers make the most of later life. Please be assured that the Age Co Car Insurance policy, which is provided by our insurance partner LV=, has an upper age limit of 110.

While there are many factors that are considered when LV determine if cover can be provided, a customer who is under the upper age limit should not be declined solely based on age. We would welcome the opportunity to investigate your concerns with LV=, in order to understand what has happened. As Trustpilot provides limited personal information, we would be grateful if you could get in touch with our customer relations team so we can speak in more detail about your concerns. Age UK Crewe

Age UK Crewe, not to be confused with Age UK Cheshire. The shop in Crewe is a “discount store” it takes over the door donations and clothes from other Age UK stores to sell at unbelievable low prices. You can literally buy a complete outfit for under £10!!! A dress £2, shoes £2, jacket/coat £2 and bag £2, leaving you £2 to spend on a piece of jewellery. In this financial recession, there is always a bargain to be find in the shop Bric a brac is sensitively priced and a must for anyone starting out in a new home. If you’re staying in for the evening there is a vast display of books, DVDs and CDs to be had. The staff at the shop are friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable about their stock.

Supposedly a CHARITY Shop

Supposedly the new superstore in Lincoln is a charity shop. When entering the store, all we could see was new goods and large prices. How can people afford these prices, its a charity shop, people usually go there for a few reasons, the first is to help support the charity as a whole to raise funds, Secondly people who cannot afford a lot know they can pick up a bargain. Have Age UK forgotten what the word Charity means. Help the elderly to help people who are struggling and have little money. We was in the store for approx 30 seconds. What a waste, it could be so good.

Rude, Greedy, and Downright Unpleasant.

Absolutely disgusting attitude from the staff when I went in to donate items at Uppingham. I was clearly an inconvenience, their eyes only lighting up at the big ticket item which was freshly priced and heading to the shelf before I’d even finished my donation.
