This is a complete waste of time

This is a complete waste of time! I had the defrauders communicating with me and I strung them along hoping that someone would get in touch and be able to apprehend the felons. 28 days to consider whether it's worth it? Criminals must be laughing at us law-abiding, tax paying folk who fund this joke. I used these guys 10 years ago for another issue and nothing has changed NOTHING!

Kind and understanding staff

Was so scared to report as just buried my head in the sand, being older and embarrassed that I have been a victim of a bank scam I just wanted to run away and hide in shame but the lovely lady at action fraud (Nicola I think she was called) was so understanding and empathic and gave me some great advice, she made me feel like i should have phoned sooner and had nothing to be a shamed about!! Jsut wanted to say thank you to her for putting my mind to rest.

It takes forever to set up the account

It takes forever to set up the account. Its terrible and complete waste of time. I'm getting calls and mobile text plus emails claiming to be a debt advisory charity. I'm looking at my phone in the morning and discovering text and voice mail happening during the night. Its been going on the months. The only advise they gave me was contact them and check my credit report, (I have nothing on my report), that as good as it gets.

What a waste of time

What a waste of time!
Took me an eternity to set up an account. Apparently my sky email address isn’t good enough!
Took me an hour just to set up an account so I could report unauthorised use of my CC where goods had been purchased from Amazon UK.
Amazon would know where the goods were delivered etc so enquiries could be made etc.
I report the fraud and received a reply from Inaction Fraud saying “on this occasion the matter you reported to us cannot be classified as a police recorded crime”.
So someone using another persons CC without authority is not a crime? Absolute joke and a way the government and Police get away with doing nothing!
No wonder the cost of living is going through the roof and the public pay for this rubbish service.
Don’t bother reporting to Inaction Fraud because all you’ll get is a crime number. 🙄

A waste of time

I took me a while to find this service. I reported my case - a debt collection company who collected a debt for me and has kept my money - and after some time I received a reference number. After a considerable amount of time I was told they wouldn't be taking the matter further, despite many others out there who are also victims of these criminals. I used to be a big supporter of the police but it seems their priorities are wrong these days and don't include catching actual criminals.

It's an extremely disappointing service…

It's an extremely disappointing service I thankfully have never had cause to engage with before. It was impossible to sign up for an account online because any email I tried was not an email address they'd accept. After submitting a report as a guest I got an automated email reply saying no crime had been committed. Apparently it's ok to for someone to use a stolen card in local businesses.

All I really wanted was assurance of action. There's specific transactions occurring in a 30 minute window, and these local businesses have great CCTV coverage. This is all in a small village of 3000 residents. Even if they can't catch this responsible today then it might be useful in the future.

Sadly the whole thing has gone into administrative limbo where the police won't do anything till Action Fraud say so and Action Fraud claim the bank needs to instruct them.
All I have are fraudulent transactions I am awaiting on formal confirmation of being reimbursed for, and knowing there's some low hanging fruit CCTV evidence waiting.

In summary my experience of Action Fraud has just found me dealing with another bloated government agency that needs total overall.

Are Action Fraud, decriminalising financial fraud in the UK?

I was defrauded out of my home by an unregulated business lender, as a result of a secured loan.
They presented false accounts to the judiciary, numerous times and misappropriated funds, given to them to settle the debt. They then created a fraudulent and massively inflated debt figure.
As a result my family was evicted.
Before we were evicted, I had made two reports to Action Fraud and made a third after the eviction. I borrowed money from a friend and appointed a reputable London firm of forensic accountants who produced a report, showing that the loan company’s figures were fraudulent. The loan company had ignored two separate court orders, asking them for fully stated figures. Judges are not accountants and not qualified for this sort of analysis. They couldn’t understand the figures in front of them. I had no money and had to represent myself. This was traumatic and I would never advise anyone to do this, especially not if you’re non-white, non-male or from a working class background. I am all three. I was very ignorant about this. I kept explaining that they could not prove the debt figure and had four years of payment evidence missing. The judges did not give a damn. I think victims of The Post Office Scandal had similar experiences.
I tried the Serious Fraud Office. They were appalled and told me that four years of missing payment evidence on the part of the loan company, was a likely indicator of serious fraud. They told me to report it to Action Fraud. Imagine how I felt when they said it was a ‘civil matter’, and that I should get a lawyer and that it wasn’t in their remit?
How can fraud, provable fraud, with its evidence burden, not be in their remit? How can this matter only be only for the overloaded judiciary, who don’t even have the basic facility to understand accounts, let alone fraud? This is why I borrowed money for the report, so that I could submit it to the police and get justice this way. This was cheaper, as I didn’t have a chance of raising enough money for a law firm. I was on benefits at this point and Legal Aid refused to help, stating that they ‘don’t do fraud cases’.

Action Fraud showed absolutely zero interest in the report, which clearly shows the false accounting.

Action Fraud’s, phone operatives all seem to have very basic training and I had differing answers from three different individuals. They all had to check with supervisors, who all said ‘it’s civil’.

*Essentially, it seems that Action Fraud are helping to decriminalise financial fraud.

Reading this thread and seeing all this injustice is shocking! I’d say to Action Fraud, please don’t bother replying to this with your pathetic, identikit, AI, generated responses. They just add insult to injury and make it clear that it’s a failing organisation, attempting to cover its tracks.
White collar criminals are safe and comfortable in the knowledge that the police do not care to investigate this sort of high level crime. They only want the low hanging fruit of easy to catch, basic common fraudsters. In the meantime, many of us are losing everything, whilst the FCA, FOS, SRA and Action Fraud do the work of shutting down anything too complicated.
The UK is now a playground for criminals of all levels. Welcome to Hell!

The police are negligent referring you to this sham.

Absolute dimwits manning the lines. Trying to report serious HMRC fraud. Line disconnected. Why are the police referring people to this nonsense? It's not a service, it's an infuriating waste of time. And it's been like this for the past 15 years, since I spoke to the last dimwit manning the lines.

I was getting cold calls from a lady…

I was getting cold calls from a lady from FONEHOUSE.co.uk.
I complained on Trustpilot.
FONEHOUSE said she was a scammer and I should report to ActionFraud.
I tried. It was SOOOO PAINFUL.
They asked for private details like my Date of Birth. Why ???
I just wanted to report a scammer.
It took about 10 minutes to get through to the point where the website asked me for details of the scammer.
It asked me for ridiculous things like the scammer's middle name, their Date of Birth, their Social media profiles etc.
I have NONE of these.
The only thing I had was a mobile number, first name (probably fake) and the company name (likely fake).

I’m sorry to hear about your negative experience.

Action Fraud is not an investigative body and therefore cannot guarantee or prompt a police investigation or advise you on the contents of your report.

All reports are sent to the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau (NFIB), part of the City of London Police. It is for the NFIB to decide what information is referred to Police Forces for investigation.

Every report made to Action Fraud provides information building a better picture of the scale of fraud that is happening, and to build up intelligence on fraud offences to aid police investigations and the development of counter-fraud initiatives. The more frauds reported, the more likely it is that related fraud reports will be matched and help identify lines of enquiry that can be pursued.

If a viable lead is not identified, the crime details are retained by the NFIB. Reports at the NFIB are assessed daily for viable leads and links to other criminality, the data you provided may link to another crime.

Action Fraud are wast of time

Action Fraud are wast of time. Encourage scammers as they have no power to help me, the victim who got scammed of £21,000. They can match the crime that has happened. But can’t find a law enforcement company to enforce noting. So I’m right Coinbase are in on this. This is not fair and demoralising. What faith I had is now gone.
That’s the same dissatisfaction information sent me in the email. Not helping us victims at all. You have everything to get these people and conbaise. They know that you tell all us victims the same thing.

Don't waste your time with this outfit

How I wish I had found the Trustpilot review page for Action Fraud before I submitted my detailed £2,000 fraud/deception report to Action Fraud. The 94%, one star * Trustpilot reviews say it all - a complete waste of my time and trouble to submit the relevant details to the Action Fraud website. Apparently no further action on my case can be entertained by Action Fraud and their NFIB (National Fraud Intelligence Bureau) masters in London.
After 28 days, I received a 'no reply' email -
"On this occasion, based on the information currently available, it has not been possible to identify a line of enquiry which a law enforcement organisation in the United Kingdom could pursue."
How they came to this decision when a clear case of fraud/deception was involved, with all relevant bank details, identities, phone numbers, addresses, etc supplied, bemuses me.

I’m sorry to hear about your negative experience. Whilst we cannot comment on individual reports, please be advised that the Action Fraud service helps many victims of crime dealing with in excess of 50,000 crime and information reports per month.

Fraud is the fastest-growing crime in the UK and as such there will be occasions where offenders cannot be identified or offenders based outside the UK, that criminal justice outcomes are not always achievable.

While not all reports have sufficient information or leads to prompt distribution to a police force, many thousands do. Fraudsters are being brought to justice as a result of Action Fraud and the work of the City of London Police and forces across the country.

I am sorry you are not satisfied with the level of service you have received.

Action Fraud is the UK’s national reporting centre for fraud and cyber crime, and takes crime and information reports on behalf of the police and gives advice and fraud prevention guidance. Action Fraud does not have investigation powers, however, the reports taken by Action Fraud are sent to our colleagues the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau (NFIB), also run by the City of London Police, the national lead force for fraud. The NFIB collates and analyses intelligence on fraud, identifying viable lines of enquiry and developing packages for distribution to a force for investigating.

The NFIB’s systems assess reports of fraud and cyber crime from across the UK, helping to build a national picture of where fraud and internet crime is taking place and how. Experts review the data from these reports to decide whether there is enough information to send to a police force for investigation. However, it is not possible to investigate every report received.

The NFIB aim to respond to the vast majority of reports within 28 working days, but it can take longer so your patience is appreciated. After your report has been assessed you will be notified of the outcome. If your report is sent to a police force for investigation, you will be told which force it has gone to. Unfortunately, Action Fraud cannot guarantee or prompt a police investigation, but if you have any further information related to your report that you would like to add, please update the web reporting tool using your NFRC and password via the website (www.actionfraud.police.uk).

Inaction Fraud.

What a complete waste of taxpayers money. Inaction Fraud would definitely be a better title for this organisation. I reported the theft and unauthorised use on bank cards, stolen from my mother, as she was deteriorating in health, and the scumbags even used them while she was dying in a Nursing Home. Despite the bank supplying statements, showing dates and locations, and me giving details of the people who did this, InAction Fraud refused to investigate. They said it's the bank's responsibility to investigate. The Police will still look into it, all they needed was a reference number from Inaction Fraud, regardless of whether Inaction Fraud will do anything or not. So what is the point of Inaction Fraud, if the Police will investigate it anyway? Just to give out reference numbers? What a waste of time and money. I don't know how they justify taking a salary.

Just looking at the reviews on this…

Just looking at the reviews on this platform about action fraud having multiple bad reviews I think speaks for itself about this so called organization actio fraud seems to be a fraudulent setup in itself so I don’t see the point in using them nothing is ever followed up and nothing is ever passed onto the police, also they seem to have generic statement for every complaint which it’s self is fraudulent.

I just got off a third chat!

I just got off a chat for the second time. I have initiated a huge $93K USD scam (3 parts) to the UK police as well. Totally useless! Not interested. They not only want you to supply an 11-month, day-by-day explanation on a 2x4 form before they consider it, but they also are not in the role of actually pursuing any crime regarding crypto NFT. If it is crypto in the UK, even with piling evidence, don't bother, they are not really there to help!!!

Now a couple more months later and have heard nothing. I chatted again in answer to the review reply. Nothing changed. They are not even willing to chase the fact these scammers are using official letterheads and logos from the UK court and customs. I have the proof but there has to be an interest on the other side. If they are not interested in that, they won't care about someone who lost thousands from these UK scammers in the U.S.

If you lost crypto funds dealing with the NFT marketplace, don't bother with this platform as you can't get help, whatever the real reason. They just don't have the resources, or perhaps not even the interest.
