Hi Stephen and thank you for stopping by our Melbourne, FL location for an appraisal on your Honda CRV. We have reviewed appraisal notes and photographs and agree that the definition of inoperable was not accurate. In truth, the Honda did run and drive but was unsafe, in the opinion of our inspector, to drive on public roads. We usually take vehicles on a test drive, but we were only able to drive the Honda in the parking lot as the brakes were near to non-functional.
In addition to not having working brakes, the CRV was in really bad shape with unrepaired collision damage. The front bumper for example was attached to the car using rope.
The online valuation estimate was based on your disclosure that the Honda had 160,000 miles on the odometer, no mechanical issues, and was in good physical shape apart from a dent on the fender. The CRV had covered almost 20,000 more miles than disclosed and had a lot of problems. It would require thousands of dollars of work to get the Honda back to a reasonable condition for resale, hence the valuation.
We promised you a five-star customer service experience and we are sorry that we failed to meet your expectations. A complaint has been opened on your behalf and has been escalated to Area Manager James, who has already attempted to reach you be phone.
