I’ve tried so many times to ‘get into’ this brand but, as much as I dearly want to own some Walker Slater pieces, I’ve now given up.

The size guides are almost always inaccurate, website stock availability is frustratingly unreliable (find out for yourself during the sales), and various garments have bewildering or questionable stylistic details (brown buttons on a jet black coat?! Flap pockets on informal winter coats instead of vertical/diagonal slit pockets?! Unnecessary snap buttons on the collar points of leather jackets?!).

However, my biggest gripe is that the sizing of the garments (especially jackets) are rarely ever true to size. I could waltz into most reputable stores, select my chest size and the jacket would fit as expected. Not with Walker Slater! Of course, I could go to a tailor and get it altered, but I’ve never had to do that in the past with other brands.

And another thing. Why does Walker Slater have a purported 2 cm margin of error for all its product measurements? That’s almost ONE INCH, either way, for chest, sleeve, waist and head sizes! Based on that alone, how can anyone trust the official sizes on the website when it’s, ultimately, a crap shoot?

On a positive note, most of the products are actually lovely, diverse, of great quality and available in a wide array of colours (that's when they aren’t restricted to the boring and clichéd navy/blue tones for men). Also, from past experiences, the level of customer service is commendable. Sadly, such virtues aren’t enough, as it shouldn’t have to be this difficult finding something that fits as expected.

RESPONSE:

There is A LOT you can still do. I’m not the only one who has complained about inconsistent sizing or website orders being cancelled because there’s no stock, so it’s not just me.

And then there’s the issue with your jackets. Edward is your ‘flagship’ style but I, as have others in the past, have requested that you expand your meagre Martin line (which offers a better fit for tall, slim men)… and yet NOTHING new has been added to this line in YEARS!

If you don’t listen to (and act upon) constructive feedback, the level of service you offer means VERY LITTLE.

The quality of the clothing is exceptionally high, and it’s clear the time and effort that has gone in to sourcing the material and designing the garments; that being said, it’s the company themselves that make the brand. Their focus on customer satisfaction is phenomenal; highly un organised 4 weeks before my wedding I finally got round to ordering my suit only to find both the trousers and shirt were out of stock in my size with no definitive date for when they would be in and if they would arrive just in time for the wedding or just after.

Within a week, I had both, they don’t just go the extra mile they go above and beyond for their customers.

Hannah and Laura in customer service and the web team quite literally saved my day, and there is not enough gratitude I can give to them. They are a credit to the company.

Yes, the clothes are expensive but in all honestly for the quality they are more than worth it (the twill, my god the twill! I’ve never been hugged by a cloud but I imagine that’s how it feels). The reason I will be continuing to buy from WS, however, isn’t solely because of the clothes; its because at 37 I have never experienced a company that cares so much about their customers and genuinely make them feel like they are valued. No pushy sales tactics, no blunt generic emails that make you feel like an inconvenience; just honest, helpful, and polite human interactions.

I love Walker Slater. They make grid quality products at reasonable prices. Plus their ready to wear suits happen to fit me almost perfectly. I have bought several jackets, waistcoats and trousers, both in-store and online. The fit and quality of the garments are fantastic, and the level of service is exceptional. Walker Slater is truly a favourite brand for timeless gentlemen's fashion.
