Paypal cash-out error fixed as promised!
I truly appreciated Peter's quick and proactive assistance. My particular problem concerned a failed cash-out from Verbling to my PayPal account.
I never once had to worry about how long the problem resolution would take because Peter provided me with the important details and an approximate timeline.

I set up three intro lessons and two out of three of the teachers didn't show up. One of them cancelled shortly before the lesson. One just didn't show up. It's impossible to speak to a human at customer service about getting a refund.

EDIT:
Moved the review from 1 to 3 stars because Verbling reached out to me and made this right. Still only 3 stars because it shouldn't (a) require me writing multiple emails followed by a negative review to refund me for a UX problem on their end and (b) they refunded me with the ask that I update my review which leads me to believe they care more about their rating than their users.
This said, I had my first lesson and that was good!
ORIGINAL:
I booked my first class on Verbling for 10:30pm EST - their website clearly stated all times are in my local time.
When I went to attend my class, I saw that it was scheduled for 10:30pm PST which I wasn't able to attend.
They didn't give me an option to reschedule. My only option was to cancel and lose half the cost of the class.
When I emailed them they didn't address the situation and just told me all purchases are final. Super disappointing experience

Verbling is not honest and upfront
The real turn off with Verbling is that they absolutely prohibit refunds except in the case where a teacher has not yet cashed out their payment. After doing a couple of trials and settling on a teacher, it turned out that what I'd envisioned for our lessons wasn't going to work out. I had bought a 10-lesson package because the trial lesson seemed great. I felt I wasn't ready to work with another teacher but I was forced to do so or lose about $170. This policy should be CLEARLY emphasized upfront... "All sales are final. No refunds". Pretty obvious no? But not to the folks at Verbling.

Teachers can cancel lessons at any time with no penalty (and no added bonuses to users for inconvenience)
Yet you as a user cannot reschedule or cancel a lesson without being penalized.
Not a fair system if you ask me

Peter and his manager at Verbling were extremely reasonable and considerate in refunding me the money that I spent on Spanish lessons after my teacher abruptly retired from teaching.

10/22/22 This is a review of the company and its website, its customer service, its user interface, etc - NOT of the teachers. I paid for 5 lessons and after many attempts, I have been unable to schedule the lessons because I've been moving and can't get the website to understand what time-zone I'm in. When I wrote for support I got a reply, "Sure you can change your time-zone!" with a link to a huge list of obscure places and time zones that doesn't contain either Portugal or Lisbon or any other city in Portugal. And there's no search tool, so it's maddening. I still can't schedule the lessons I paid for. And as far as I can tell, I can never get a refund.

Verbling did respond by assuring me that my location is on their list of about 100 cities and states thrown together in super confusing super abstruse ordering system, and after combing through the list a few times I finally found my time zone.
But why on earth do they not have a search engine so you can enter your location to find your timezone? Email customer service is way slower and inferior to phone customer service where you used to be able to ask a question and get an answer and move on instead of having to wait a few days and then get an answer that may or may not require an exchange which might take another few days and so on. It's a waste of customers' time.
Similarly, rescheduling of lessons is much more laborious and time-consuming than it should be.
Again, this is not a review of the teachers, only of Verbling, its website, and its slow customer service.
