Founded while at Parsons School of Design, the brand began from a simple frustration: harsh ceiling lighting and the lack of easy, non permanent ways to improve a space without tools, rewiring, or damage. KAMI’s first product, the KAMI Shade, is a lightweight paper shade designed to improve existing ceiling lights, transforming harsh overhead lighting into a soft, warm glow. Made from rice paper and metal wire, the shade installs in minutes using adhesive tabs and can be removed just as easily, making it ideal for apartments, dorms, and temporary living spaces. The focus was to create something affordable, easy to live with, and made from natural materials to eliminate plastic waste.
