Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 110 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Customers frequently expressed deep frustration with the insurance claims process, noting prolonged delays, repeated and redundant requests for paperwork, and severe difficulties receiving their rightful payouts. Many people also reported exceptionally poor customer service, mentioning unhelpful representatives, unanswered emails, and long waiting times when trying to get updates. The minority of people were satisfied with the efficient handling of their claims once all required documents were properly submitted. These reviewers appreciated the genuinely helpful support and surprisingly quick payouts they received for their unexpected medical issues or travel disruptions.

If I could give 0 stars I would

If I could give 0 stars I would. I have used this insurance company for years as I had never needed to make any claims so never had experienced anything bad with them until the ONE time I ended up hospitalised in Spain and they would not help. I had forgotten to take out the insurance before I left the UK so I purchased the insurance ONE day into my holiday, it wasn’t while over a week later when I was hospitalised that I needed to use it for the first time ever but they wouldn’t grant me the claim as I took out the insurance after I left the UK. Something I do not understand is if you are unable to use the insurance if bought when already on holiday, why does it even give you the option to be able to purchase in the first place once you have put in your dates?! When I spoke with an advisor she claimed it would have asked me if I’m already on holiday.. IT DOES NOT ASK YOU THIS. They have absolutely zero people skills and no compassion at all! I will NEVER be returning here as a customer, they will try everything and anything to dismiss your claim. Terrible terrible company!!

Be careful

Be careful. It turned out our travel insurance was completely invalidated whilst waiting a simple blood test. I spoke to 2 different customer service people. A waste of money. We have moved onto a much better company.

Brilliant service for cruise missed port.

Brilliant service. We took out travel insurance with cruise cover. On the cruise we had a missed port due to weather. I phoned the PO Customer Claims Line and within an hour, we received a payment into our bank account. The person on the phone was friendly and went through the claims process thoroughly. Excellent.

If I could give PO zero I would,, I have been trying to make a calim on my holiday insurance for 6 months now, I sent off all requested evidence, waited over a month then was asked to send additional evidence, another month passes then asked for different evidence, then another month passed and once again asked for furter info, its all stalling tactics and ridiculous! DO NOT PURCHASE INSURANCE FROM THEM! I have reported them to the insurance ombudsman, its wrong what they are doing and no way should I stilll have nothing after 6 months

Not covered for private hospitals.

Just made a phone call about buying the MAX travel insurance to check it covers me in a private hospital in Holland if I need. Firstly the girl on the phone did not know the answer and had to ask someone which is worrying and shocked to find the answer is NO. Most Euro countries are private, so check before you buy.

Absolutely terrible

Absolutely terrible, a complete waste of money. I had a genuine case for a £500 claim having missed a connection due to a delayed flight and they went through hoops to avoid paying it. 😡

Chance for Post Office to review

I’m going to write half a review in the hope that Post Office insurance see this!
I will give them a chance to rectify their decision.
Hire car broken into on way from airport to our own apartment, locked car in supermarket car park, opportunist with a key less gadget (according to police) took money, laptop, items we bought on the plane.
Post office has so far come back and said, personal items should be locked in a lockable glove box or stored in a roof box locked! Now answer this! Who travels by plane and takes a roof top box with them and which modern day car has a lockable glove box?? They need to revue their policy! Fuming 😡

17 months waiting for a settlement

I've been dealing with a claim with the Post Office since December 2024, they've sent me a compensation email February 2025 but no money on my bank account, excuses after excuses.

Currently I'm leaving away from the UK due to work and as I can't provide them proof of address from the UK they are not willing to pay the claim compensation.

Post Office are completely useless over 17 months to make a transfer of a settlement they sent via email.

Claims process seems to be.. **how can I reject this claim**

These (cow)boys act as claims processors for post office travel insurance. My initial experience with them was not bad, though lengthy, when claimed for cancellation of my upcoming holiday, as a result of hospitalisation due to an accident whilst travelling which resulted in a spinal injury. The initial claim was paid out, however then it was pointed out to me that I was also travelling at the time, and now being partially disabled, I have a claim under personal accident section of that same policy.

Here is where things went wrong and where they are still refusing to accept the claim, because persist in refusing it under a completely different section of the policy, medical expense… I am NOT claiming for medical expenses. I am cla8ming for permanent partial disablement.. so now running out of options. I have to take legal advice. Appalled

Quite honestly the worst travel…

Quite honestly the worst travel insurance company I have ever dealt with.

I very rarely make insurance claims, so to be treated like this after providing every document and piece of evidence requested has been incredibly frustrating and disappointing.

One claim has now been ongoing for over seven months and still remains unresolved despite all supporting documentation being supplied months ago. Another claim has now been rejected after what feels like a very narrow assessment where key facts and circumstances were ignored completely.

The process has been painfully slow from start to finish, communication has been poor and I have repeatedly had to chase for updates. Responses take weeks and there seems to be very little urgency or willingness to properly review the wider circumstances surrounding claims.

You pay for travel insurance expecting support and fairness when something genuinely goes wrong outside of your control. Sadly, my experience has been the complete opposite.

Based on my experience, I would not recommend this company to anyone looking for reliable travel insurance or efficient claims handling.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS

AVOID at all costs. My husband died suddenly of a cardiac arrest in February and I am still waiting on money back from 3 holidays we had booked. They make the rules up as they go along. They are now asking for my husbands Will, what has it got to do with them, we were on a joint travel insurance. I don't need this They are an absolute nightmare. It is now May and still not money, 3 months later.

Think twice.

Think twice before buying Post Office Travel Insurance. No one is likely to renew a policy after exchanges with some pretty unpleasant claims' staff. I was left £500 out of pocket.
