Exactly what I was after!

Super impressed with these products. Customer service is top notch (quick answers to all my dumb questions within minutes - even during off hours) and shipping was surprisingly fast! The products are all of great and consistent quality and really look great after installation (though to be honest, I could have done with less branding - the laser cut logos in each and every component was just one more thing to think about during assembly). A few notes to folks that are hesitant due to other reviews I've seen. I know these are made to be used on 'dressed' lumber as opposed to standard 'dimensional' lumber, but it will work with dimensional lumber; you just have to be gentle with a small sledge hammer during assembly. Also, there a lot of complaints about the included hardware; people complain about the quality and quantity of screws. On quality: they're fine. Drill a pilot hole and use the correct bit on your driver (and torque) and you'll be fine. On quantity: it's stated repeatedly on the website and all literature that you don't need to drive a screw in every hole! I will note that the instructions recommend using the screw holes farthest from the ends, which makes sense structurally and visually. However, the holes are not offset like with similar products. On the 4 X 4' set, using the far holes consistently will cause some screw sets to perpendicularly 'kiss' (at least according to my measurements), so I got a little creative with my screw placements. Last point: the accessories are great. If using a shade sail (even one that's not Toja brand), I highly recommend the corner brackets. Also, the table accessory is very cool (and sturdy). Overall, very happy with how everything turned out!

I am in love with my 12x12 Toja Grid

I am in love with my 12x12 Toja Grid! It looks great, blocks the sun, and is easy enough to take the sail down for bad weather. I have only had it for a couple of weeks, but so far so good.

While the forms are as advertised

While the forms are as advertised, in the United States the lumber is not the same dimensions as in Canada. Also lumber as it dries, and you need dry lumber as is clearly stated on the website, will twist as it dries this twisting will compromise the integrity of the structure. If you try and build with not dry lumber that is still wet from the pressure treating process the lumber does not fit in the forms provided.
What is not clear on the site is that you need the 45 degree brackets for the integrity of the structure. These are a must. Also you shoudl find a more secure way to anchor the feet to the surface more than the four screws. With wet wood and twisting the legs of your pergola could twist and rip the screws throiugh your decking.
This product is do it yourself, but not in 2 hours as advertised with three men. And is not structurally sound without the additional purchase of the 45 degree angle brackets.

Hello Philip, Thanks for reaching out, We recommend a max span of 12ft per section. Anything longer than 12ft should be a double pergola built using our QUAD brackets. We have not had any customer complaints regarding structural integrity or bowing of the wood while staying within our recommendations. Also while staying within these recommendations using the 45 degree brackets is not a must, it is an option to choose if the customer desires.

Solid product and customer service

Good, solid product. I ordered several items at once, and one package got lost by UPS somewhere after it cleared customs. The people at Toja Grid investigated and shipped me a replacement item while UPS conducted their investigation. Customer service was good throughout, and very communicative.

Good product, pricey.

The kit is very nice, I don't care for the small screws and plastic head covers that will deteriorate over time. The kits are very pricey considering what it is and if you buy the parts you need it is cheaper in some cases. I also wanted to buy some other brackets but the price is so over the top expensive compared to the kits themselves it does not make sense to buy. I would buy another kit if needed though.

Thank you for the review Yong!

We've found that customers who have experienced stripping of the screws were either using the wrong bit and/ or using too much torque.

- Our screws require using a #3 Robertson Bit, or a #3 Philips. This size fits perfectly within the screw head.
- While any length of screw bit will work, for comfort and stability, we’d recommend a 4” or 6” bit length.
- if the wrong drill bit is used, there is potential of the screw head getting stripped.
- An impact driver (type of drill) is best used for our installation, as it provide impact response when the screw is at the proper depth.

I hope this information will assist you.

I haven't had to actually use customer service but the product is awesome and easy to install. I used it for a 15 X 10 deck cover using 4X4s and the pergola kit for the front. I will probably buy a kit to cover my BBQ and smoker area later this year.

I love the concept and simplicity of…

I love the concept and simplicity of design, but there were a couple issues that I wasn't too thrilled with.

First, the stability of a basic four point structure is not real great, so this necessitated the additional time and work being spent creating angled bracing for the uprights to allow the structure to be plum as well as sturdy in any type of wind or movement. Unless I missed it, I would include some basic tips and hints for structural rigidity and leveling the structure by utilizing the pre-drilled screw insertion poins in the feet.

Secondly, the screws provided were horrible. They instantly stripped at the heads due to being poor quality metal and not being able to engage the driver bit properly.

Once the structure is up and finished, it looks sharp and works great! But in order to do it right, it takes a bit more work than dropping some 4x4's into the brackets.

The joints are great excellent quality cheap screws

The joints are great excellent quality, but the kit is cheapened by poor quality screws. My drill bit would chew them up and yes I was using the proper bit, this made the the installation very frustrating. I went to the hardware store and bought quality screws and the install went much smoother. All in all excellent kit but cheapened by saving a buck.
