Superprof Canada has provided a good way to connect with students who need assistance with their studies.

Terrible and misleading platform. They advertise “free first lessons,” but you only find out after paying that the $49 fee is just to contact a tutor, not for an actual class. Even if the person doesn’t answer, or its not a good fit, you’re still getting charged. If I had known, I would have never joined.
After sending them multiple emails explaining the situation, they still refused to help. Very bad faith, zero transparency, and no willingness to resolve anything. I absolutely do not recommend Superprof.

Update: the charge has been removed from my card. I understand it was just an imprint but that should have been explained upfront. It was a bit of a shock. I greatly appreciate the response of the customer service team to explain the problem. I do suggest the website is updated to make this very clear as it seems it has happened to others as well. If we are still looking for a professor we will return to the site

great place to find tutors around you easily
You are not transparent in your advertising and advertise overseas teachers as if they are in Canada not considering the language barriers that can affect the communication.

Tried contacting two different tutors and never even got a response from either

I was seeking a violin tutor for the very first time. I had challenges with the first two tutors whom I reached out to.
Your staff promptly reached out to me and provided assistance.
Thank you very much for your support!
I’m currently in China and teaching Chinese online. However I found that since last year I could not login Superprof anymore without VPN. Even worse recently, I haven’t received any lesson notification from the platform any more yet I can receive the ads and surveys by email. I don’t know what’s going on there and feel very frustrated! I strongly suggest that Superprof should develop an cellphone app that provides users more convenience.
SuperProf is excellent!! I’m enjoying the SuperProf platform very much. It’s a very effective and efficient tool for connecting students with a tutor. I have multiple listings targeting different facets of my experience. The online learning system provided within SuperProf, Pencil Spaces, is excellent! The online listing metrics provided to tutors through the annual tutor subscription are really helpful.
When I first enrolled in this enterprise it took time to get the first student, but as soon as I got the first one, the process of evaluating the student's difficulties in his science courses to the tutoring lessons was a smooth ride. I was very impressed at the web meetings offered by super prof which have lesson tools offered on like the white board and a feature that made my teaching easier and so incredibly convenient is the screen sharing where I use pedagogical materials online to help the student better understand the subject at hand. I also congratulate the team of Superprof for supporting the tutors when technical problems arrive with fast response in resolving the issue or issues at hand.
I'm a Canadian residing in Edmonton. I was looking for a vocal (singing) tutor. I had two criterias: 1. The tutor should be near to my location 2. I want in-person lessons. I searched the Internet and Superprof seemed to fulfil my plan. They have a user-friendly interface where the potential students can filter for tutors. The filtering process produced a promising list. I was encouraged. I selected one tutor. I wrote a detailed message to the tutor about my learning plans if he can accept me as a student. I was aware of the $49 "matching fee". I said it is worth if the tutor selection is successful.
The contacted tutor promptly accepted my invitation which immediately triggered the $49 charge.
The next day I started to communicate with the tutor via Superprof's messaging system and realized that my original message was replaced with a generic message and ignoring all the critical details which are important to me. It turned out that the tutor was not in Edmonton but in New Brunswick (4,416 km) and therefore in-person classes are impossible. In spite I specifically filtered for these conditions!
My message was ignored and overwritten. I'm not even sure if I communicate with an AI machine or with a real person. Prior and direct communication is not allowed on their website between the student and tutor. Of course Superprof drives the transaction towards a legitimate looking student-tutor match to put their hands on the "matching fee". I lost trust in Superprof and I deleted my account.
I did not achieve my goal to find a tutor. The tutor also lost an opportunity to earn some income.

Update: Superprof contacted me and promised a refund. Appreciated. Thank you.

I would have given Superprof a better review if I had received more students after going Premium. Unfortunately, I did not. And though I still have a year to go on my plan, I really hope that the website pulls through, gives me ways to stand out and improve my profile and find me students. In the past I would receive more requests than now, so I know that students are out there. It is all about Superprof recommending the right teachers to them.
Knowing that the tutor recognized what I was lacking and started from scratch to help me understand and be able to work with what I already was able to do.
Have teachers who actually have the time and ability to teach. Not teenagers who just want a side hustle.

I’ve been teaching on Superprof for a while now, and my experience has been very positive. The platform makes it easy to connect with motivated students, manage my schedule, and keep all communication in one place. I like that I have full control over my rates and teaching methods, and that students can contact me directly. It’s a great option for independent teachers who value flexibility and professionalism.
