My experience was good at first then I started having issues with flushing the toilet because the tank would go empty for days sometimes, I kept complaining but sometimes it’ll be attended to and other times staff won’t do anything about it. One staff once told me it wasn’t a priority and I was so disgusted.

I loved how easy everything was, I felt very safe and everyone was so lovely, especially the night shift men Paul and Tyler:)

company taking advantage of students during the cost of living crisis. had several issues that were voiced and went unresolved for months but had rebooked “early” (april 2024) due to concerns that student accommodation prices would rise as they had the year prior. i had first booked april 2023 and ended up paying a grand extra than the flatmates i group booked with who made a booking in january (which i couldn’t do to not having £200 spare for a deposit).
fast forwarding to august 2024, it’s clear that the price they initially made people pay isn’t working as they have a surprising amount of rooms empty. so they’ve cut the overall price by a grand (at least for the tenancy length and payment schedule that i am on), scrapped the deposit and included a £250 discount (which i believe is limited time only) to try gather new customers.
massive kick in the teeth for those of us who have rebooked early for several reasons. these massive blows include: no perks *specifically* for those that rebook (which i personally had to forfeit thinking that the price would continue to increase) and ‘loyal’ customers (ie those that do rebook) are getting a worse off deal *especially* during the student housing crisis and cost of living crisis.
once your ‘cooling period’ (when you can cancel and get a full refund) wears off, you’re essentially trapped into the legally binding contract. this is because you are fully responsible for paying for the entire tenancy unless you find another tenant - but obviously, there is *no one* who will willingly pay an extra grand (as of the time of writing; as that’s how much extra those who rebook / book early are paying) when they can have the same room for cheaper.
it’s a shame. not really much anyone in my situation can do. there definitely needs to be more in place to protect students from situations like this - which is why NUS (national union of students) is great. i respect that student roost *are* a company and need to make money somehow but the extra money would go a long way *especially* during the current housing and cost of living crisis (ie food prices rising).
on a positive note, the property is in a great location and the staff are lovely. this review is directed to the company as a whole. private accomodation (and my property especially) is much better than my uni’s official accommodation in terms of aesthetics, location, price and value for money.
i wouldn’t *happily* recommend student roost (it’s the lesser evil out of a lot of private student accommodation companies haha) but credit where it’s due because i would recommend my property and the company above so many other private student accommodation companies and locations in the area.
maybe i just have bad luck :p

The staff were all so friendly and helpful and the facility I was in at St Mungo was superb and perfectly located for Strath Uni

I liked that the room had a 4 burner cooker, the room was very spacious. However the room was quite warm, the lift was broken a fair amount of times and it is quite old fashion. I’d definitely recommend you viewing the property before picking it. But overall it’s decent for the price.

great location at towpath and massive social space, only down side was the internet sometimes dropped but that was out of their control.

i liked the spacious rooms
i didn’t like how long it took the receptionists to take action when i reported an issue with my room
i didn’t like how long it took for my key to open the door to my accommodation building
i didn’t like how often the lifts broke down

Needs a bit of investment to bring it up to the same standard as the other student accommodations in the area

I like the safety and security I enjoyed throughout my stay but disliked some of the customer service experiences, such as not being sensitise and proactive to customer complaints.

The bathroom was awful and they refused to change my room.

Building was not clean, rooms were not clean, rooms are too hot, too noisy with antisocial behaviour

Upperton Road has a LOT to work on, I endured way too much during my tenancy and scarily enough the issues arose not even 3 months into staying there, keeping in mind this was my first year of university living. They had a serious pest problem in the building that resulted in me seeing cockroaches numerous times in my studio despite my flat being kept clean and tidy, this took months for them to sort out, and the unsanitary residents leaving bin bags in hallways and staircases did not make it any better, not to mention seeing red ants all over my flat to the point ants were found to be in my shower pipe??? I cannot make this up people, the points in this review are just the tip of the iceberg! I was having to call maintenance at least once a week because something in my room had always just not worked or broke, I don’t think any checks are done on these rooms before the next person moves in, as the stuff I logged for inventory (like any outstanding maintenance) when I first moved in (September) were not looked at for my whole tenancy. If you decide to stay here, be prepared to stand on business because they WILL try and ignore your issues, but are quick to pressure you for rent!

It is a very lovely accommodation and it's very accessible. The rooms are a great size however the pricing is extortionate.

Terrible, student roost is the worst accomodation provider that I've lived in this far. They've been unhelpful in every communication, leaked personal information to all of the other tennants. Moved into a room after the summer of my second year and it was infested with bugs and insects, they were slow in communication and slow to sort the issue. They didn't give me any compensation for the 5 weeks that I was unable to live in the accomodation. Constant fire alarms going off through the night, loud students screaming and yelling in the corridors constantly at any and all hours of the night. People constantly cooking the worst smelling food I've ever smelt.

Very small rooms, like jails. Would have preferred GAS Stove over induction. Much better to cook.

Staff are nice and helpful however the other students staying are always too loud, especially when drunk in the courtyard. The microwave oven is awful to use. Not worth the price at all (stayed for 2 years in swansea)
