Stephen Lash has been my saviour twice in the last 5 years. Originally in using laser equipment to repair my torn retina. He saw me as soon as possible and fixed it after his clinic ended.

He recently diagnosed cataracts in both eyes and has successfully replaced both with a clever combination of standard lens which have resulted in 20:20 vision in both eyes without specs. I have worn glasses since I was a teenager and at 72 I am seeing colours and definition long forgotten.

He is a great example of a medical professional who exudes confidence even to someone like me who is squeamish when it comes to the eyes !

I had surgery recently on both eyes. Replacement lens in both eyes. I also had a vitrectomy. I now two and half weeks later have wonderful vision which is better than 20/20. The surgery sounds frightening but in reality was easier than going to the dentist. Everyone is different but for me it has transformed my life. I feel very lucky. Dr Lash is a remarkable person. I will be forever grateful. Just a fantastic service from start to finish.

An ophthalmic surgeon friend of my partner advised me to see a vitreous retinal surgeon, and suggested Stephen Lash as my right IOL had become opaque (due to a defective lens). Although I had previously seen other consultants including the original surgeon, I hadn’t felt confident about the surgery on offer. Mr Lash explained a procedure which uses scleral haptic fixation, and also directed me to his website which contains a range of eye related information and procedures including videos. I found it useful to be able to go back and re-read the relevant sections of it during my treatment.

I travelled from my home in Gloucestershire to Optegra, Hampshire to have my surgery in September 2021. During the procedure, Mr Lash explained what was happening which I particularly liked. The surgery went well with no complications, and I started to enjoy the benefits within a few days. It was so reassuring to have Mr Lash call me the day after the surgery to check I was ok.

All aspects of my treatment from the administration to the consultation, surgery and follow ups were excellent. Such a lovely team of dedicated professionals who work well together and certainly look like they enjoy what they do - efficient, empathetic and supportive throughout, and good at spotting the more anxious patients. I have just had my sign off, and feel extremely fortunate to have been offered this surgery and moreover, that the outcome was better than I believed it could be.

I recently had to have defective a defective lens replaced due to a manufacturing fault with the original,
I was placed under the care of Mr Lash and his team at Optegra.
My problem was explained in great depth and only when i was happy did the surgery take place.
The outcome was better than i was expecting considering the procedure involved.

I was referred to Stephen Lash because the surgeon that I first saw was not confident conducting what was possibly going to be a somewhat complicated cataract procedure. At our first meeting he fully explained in layman’s terms exactly what would be involved in the procedure and the possible complications. This was accompanied by a film of one of his procedures. During the op his considerable knowledge and expertise was required and everything was explained as the op was carried out. The op was a complete success and I now have very good vision in the affected eye which is getting even better as time goes on. Both Stephen and his team were professional and friendly throughout and I have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone contemplating eye surgery. He will be the first specialist I will approach should my other eye ever require attention. Many thanks to him and his team.

I was referred to Mr Lash for my cataract operation as my first operation involved a complicated procedure requiring the skills of Mr Lash as a Vitreo-Retinal Surgeon. My consultation with Mr Lash was very reassuring and he gave a very thorough explanation as to what was required. As a consequence I had every confidence in Mr Lash to carry out the procedure. The operation was a success and I now have perfect vision in both my eyes.

The process was straightforward and efficient. The surgery went well from my point of view. Mr. Lash rang promptly the following day to check all was well.

I had a history of major retinal detachments in both eyes with a number of operations and retinal fold in one eye.
Then over years developed dense cataracts and advice from two major hospitals was to leave operating until quality of life so bad cataract operations risk outweighed not seeing at all.
Had effect on my emotional state.
Pandemic arrived and waiting list at major London hospital which I was under was so long; decided to self fund.

Stephen Lash carried out a scleral fixation on my left eye in April 2021. he said the surgery was 'uncomplicated'. However I had lens capture in the iris in both eyes, the right eye having had the same procedure several years before under Mr Lash's close supervision; this was corrected by Mr Lash. I assume the condition is the result of some weakness in my eyes due to Uveitis. The treatment was excellent throughout and Mr Lash is a most pleasant person.

I had a Vitrectomy and cataract surgery, the results were excellent. Mr Lash and his team looked after me extremely well and were very reassuring.

I am 84 and recently had eye surgery with you for two cataracts and removal of eprietinal membrane rear tissue. I am delighted with the result, its like living in a new bright world. I had an emergency last year when one of my retinae became detached. At one day's notice Stephen Lash and his team repaired the detachment, and three months later all is back to completely normal. The surgery and subsequent after-care have been most professional, and I am deeply grateful to all concerned for solving my problem so swiftly and comprehgensively

In 2018 I had retinal detachment in one eye and retinal holes in the other. I had three operations to repair the damage, under the care of Mr Lash and his team. At the time I was in the final month of my pregnancy, which made things a little more complicated and stressful! But I couldn't have been in better hands, I was so well looked after. Because of Mr Lash I was able to see my daughter when she was born - the best gift anyone could have given me.

As a result of childhood measles, I have virtually no sight in my right eye so at the age of 76 I was very nervous indeed about having a cataract operation on my only good eye. My optometrist was clear that I did need the op because my lens was becoming very yellow and milky and there was nothing more she could do via corrective lenses. Driving would soon be at risk. I opted to have both eyes done at the same time. The initial consultation with Mr. Lash was very thorough and in our interactions, he was very thoughtful in the way he presented the options, the risks and the potential benefits. He is very professional and via his pleasant demeanor invites questions and discussion. Nothing was off the agenda. I found it incredibly reassuring to cover all of my concerns and fears. I explained that I was very anxious about the actual operation(s) and he undertook to administer an appropriate amount of sedative to help me. In reality, I need not have worried. I was into Optegra at 10.30 am and by 12.00 my wife and I were bowling back home along the M27 with my astonished commentaries on the whole wonderful new bright, colourful world I was experiencing, despite the dark polaroid glasses I was wearing. From varifocals with a distance prescription of +3.5 with an addition of +2.75 for reading, I self tested via the internet as having better than 20-20 distance and mid-distance vision and only +1.0 or possibly +1.25 for reading. My significant astigmatism had all but vanished and my colour perception was immaculate. All this was confirmed formally at my follow-up appointment with Mr Lash. One wonder for me was our Samsung 50" QLED TV which I had bought recently because on our old 40" TV it was impossible for me to read on screen messages, etc. I now know how fantastic this technology is and how crisp and colourful is the picture. It's just one of a series of revelations that most post-cataract patients comment on, but for each individual, it's wonderful. Thanks a million, Mr Lash. - "Mr Lash certainly fixed it for me!!!"
