SpaMedica is one of the leading providers of NHS eye patient services and, in 2018, we became the largest NHS cataract surgery provider in the UK. Beyond cataract surgery, other NHS ophthalmology services offered include treatments for Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) and Posterior Capsule Opacification (PCO), which is treated through a procedure known as YAG laser capsulotomy.

Excellent attention from start to finish, the receptionist on arrival, all nursing staff and the excellent Mr Davies who carried out my procedure, finally the pleasant caring nurse who provided me with after care information. I was extremely wary about having this procedure however my worries disappeared on meeting Mr Davies and my initial confidence was rewarded.
I had cataract surgery there today, lovely Surgeon friendly lovely staff,
I was a little apprehensive about having eye surgery but the staff put me at ease and made sure my operation went as smoothly as possible from start to finish ,they were so kind and talked me through each stage of my operation , I am due to have the other eye operated on in a few weeks time and I will face this one with less trepidation.
I had a cataract op at Spa Medica , Wokingham in 2020, the staff were exceptional, and the procedure pain free and recovery quick . Last week on the 19 June 2026 I had the other cataract done, again the staff were amazing . When I had the first eye done I left the hospital wearing a plastic cover over the eye which had to be left in place overnight and removed the next morning , I had no discomfort. This time I was told you did not now cover the eye for 24 hrs, I had a lot of discomfort and in the early hours of the morning, 3am, I had to get up and bathe my eye which had been weeping and was stuck together , I did not have this problem when the eye was covered .May I enquire why the procedure has been stopped, is it pure economics?a my first experience with the eye covered for 24 hrs was much better.
All staff were happy with a warm stress free greeting
On November 13th, 2024 (not 2025. The calendar below doesn't cover year 2024) at Wakingham Spa Medica, I underwent cataract surgery performed by Dr. Sarit Lesnir Oberstein. The experience was deeply distressing. During the procedure, Dr. Oberstein discovered that the irrigation system, which should have been flushing my eye to prevent burns, was completely dry. This was inexcusable. The (female) assistant, who was supposed to ensure all equipment was functioning, instead treated me with rudeness and a dismissive attitude.
Dr. Oberstein intervened swiftly, but not before I was left shocked and terrified.
I was then told aggressively not to move.
What made this even more appalling is that Dr. Oberstein was never informed by Spa Medica office of a separate issue with my eye, aside from the cataract—which was exactly why I required a consultant of her expertise. During the operation, after she began lasering my eye, she suddenly exclaimed, "Oh gosh, there is another problem," but immediately followed with, "I know what to do."
This was a catastrophic failure of basic care, and I am appalled by the lack of professionalism.
Excellent staff.
All friendly and very professional.
One time( earlier)
From reception to discharge the care from staff was absolutely fantastic ! The cataract opp was as painless as described and the surgeon talked me through everything that was happening. I can't thank everyone enough for the care they all provided. SpaMedica is 5 Star. The Taunton clinic is highly recommended.

Very efficient, clear communication totally professional, very little discomfort
I was welcomed and at each stage everything was explained clearly, This helped me to relax, especially as the nurses, and later, the doctor, assured me that I wouldn’t feel any pain, and I didn’t feel any pain at all.
All the SpaMedica staff were lovely, very kind, and they made the whole process something I won’t worry about when I have my second cataract removed. Thank you
The quality of treatment was excellent (Cataract surgery with special lenses). But appointment system and attitude to service very poor. There should be separate clinics for private and NHS. Of course there has to be time for dilating or anaesthetic drops to take effect but beyond that far too much hanging about. I opted to pay £7.5k rather than use NHS to avoid queues etc. Really not good enough. Most staff are pleasant and reassuring but others are brusque to the point of rudeness. This was the Bromley branch which I attended a total of 7 times.
Clean building, efficient friendly staff. Calm relaxed atmosphere. Well organised. Fantastic surgeon who explained exactly what was happening throughout the procedure. Vision super improved after 48 hours! Thank you ALL. 😊
This was or could have been a very anxious time for me.
However I can only say, that not only was it a good experience but an excellently carried out procedure.
Spamedica has a completely new style and competent way of making you feel better "How good health care should be."
I turned up for my appointment early, the receptionist took my details and asked me to sit and wait to be called.
I waited for nearly an hour with no update.
I was called through to the nurse and she did her tasks 5hen asked me to sit while the pellet in my eye dilated my eye.
After about an hour sitting there the consultant came and told us they were running late, this was very much appreciated.
I was called through to another room before theatre and everything was explained thoroughly again this was appreciated.
The surgeon came through and told me what he expected of me ,obviously no moving on the bed.
I stayed completely still and as the surgery went on he explained every step.
I felt completely relaxed and the surgery went well.
Thank you to the team who were lovely, if I need treatment again I wouldn't hesitate to use you again.
Excellent care and service at Wolverhampton.
Polite staff system regarding looking after patients.
Cleanliness of clinic also which is expected.
All the staff there are heros and deserve medals for the way they make you feel at home when you arrive for treatment well done.
Great experience, friendly staff, excellent service. One more eye to go
The facilities and staff are very good. the post-operation is very bad. there is conflicting information when the nurse after the operation tells you to book an appointment to be seen after 4 weeks. But then, when you call the centre you get told to go to specsavers. Not only there is misinformation, but after you have your first eye done, then you will need to get your other eye done. And going through Specsavers again to be referred back to the same place that already got all your records it is a total waste and inefficient way of treating patients.
A very patient friendly enviroment from all members of staff. I felt so valued that I miss coming back again.
The surgery was so smooth and the results overwhemingly briiliant.
I can recommend Spa without hesitation. Keop up the excellent vibe and Thank you very much for the hard work
