After the shock of discovering my sewerage system was no longer legal, and had to be replaced, I was dismayed that the first three local companies I approached seemed unsuitable: one never called back, another failed to send a quote after two reminders, and the third was too expensive to be credible.

Then I got in touch with Nigel Gillies at Smart Drainage. The difference was clear from the outset; a prompt visit and preliminary site survey was followed by an equally prompt quotation that was both detailed and thorough. Everything Nigel told me made sense, and his experience and professionalism were reassuring given the difficult terrain (on the side of a steep hill) and the importance of getting the job to the standard required for legal compliance.

Smart Drainage took care of every detail, from providing the heavy equipment needed to liaison with building control and installing the electrical circuits necessary to power the Sewage Treatment Plant they recommended. Nigel even arranged for me to visit a previous installation of the same plant (a Marsh Ensign with an internal compressor) as I was concerned about the noise of the pump. He told me the Ensign was silent, and he wasn’t kidding: I stood on top of the cover and had to ask if it was turned on!

My visit also had another advantage, because the home-owner could not have been more complimentary about the service he received, the quality of the work or the helpfulness of the installation team – and he didn’t exaggerate. In due course after agreeing the quotation, a three-man team arrived, and work proceeded at a pace that demonstrated they knew exactly what they were doing. It was a pleasure to have them on site; helpful, considerate and thorough, they got the job done with impressive efficiency, and restored my garden, patio and surrounding area before leaving. The electrician wired up the system, and a few days later I received the certificate of compliance from building control.

I have no reservations in recommending Smart Drainage. They did an outstanding job, on time and on budget, addressed every problem in a constructive way and did a job that was as commendable for its professionalism as it was for the efficiency with which it was completed.
