Ordered some skirting for my living room. The price was great! The delivery service did let the order down a little. This was left outside by DX when there were clear instructions not to. Not Skirting Kings fault at all, and John was very helpful in sorting this issue out for me. Would definitely recommend!

’ve used Skirting King a couple of times. The communication and service is outstanding. The Carpenter actually said “you can tell this is good quality MDF”. There was a small issue with my second order and John was straight on it. He resolved with fast communication and showed what excellent customer service looks like. I will use them again and would recommend anyone to Skirting King.

Great service

Ordered some scarce victorian bead and butt skirting for some doorways that I blocked up.

Had a couple of days before I got an update, so I called and spoke to John Philips. He was dealing with a machinery error, but once I explained I needed the skirts in order to get some carpets down, he managed to work magic and get them made and out to me within 24 hours.

Great service and very attentive.

We have ordered skirting boards a couple of times and really like the quality of the wood and finish when stained. Delivery has been an issue both times with a £60 charge being applied for Aberdeen delivery and the order doesn’t arrive within the advertised 3-5 days. Joe and John in the office were very good at dealing with the delivery companies and keeping us informed so, despite a delay, felt looked after and that the order would be fulfilled.

Non disclosed postage costs

Skirting King site clearly advertised “Free shipping on orders over £200” with no mention of geographic exclusions such as Scotland. My order exceeded £200. At no point during the checkout process was I informed that Scotland was excluded from the free shipping offer.

Only after selecting PayPal as a payment method was a £59.99 shipping fee added to my total. This surcharge was not disclosed prior to payment and contradicts the advertised offer.

As far as I can tell this practice appears to be a breach of the following UK consumer protection laws:

Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013, which require that all compulsory charges be disclosed clearly before a consumer commits to a purchase.

Pricing Transparency Rules (Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013) Retailers must:
Clearly disclose the full price (including all taxes, fees, and charges) before you commit to pay.
Not hide or delay any part of the cost until after a purchase path has begun (like clicking PayPal).
Sneaking in a £59.99 fee only after you've hit "Pay with PayPal" violates these rules.

Skirting King have replied to my reveiw and say "I have to say this a very evil review to leave."
Since there are laws about companies making misleading statements and not being transparent in costs then I truly doubt it is an evil reveiw to leave.

They say "This is the cost we set as a company and it's our decision, not yours!"
I actually totally agree with this, they are correct, if they want to charge Scottish based customers way more than the rest of the UK for delivery then yes it is their decision. It's also their decision to further add VAT onto Scottish based customers delivery charges. But there are laws saying they have to be transparent and clear about this, it's not their decision not to follow these laws.

I get the idea that they think that because they emailed me that they have problems with lost/damaged goods that I shouldn't be writing a reveiw at all, I wrote the reveiw before the email but would've still wrote it anyway.

As for not completing the checkout, I don't know many people that go through the hassle of filling in all the delivery details when paying through Paypal, it's one of the reasons I use it, and it's their website, their decision, they gave me the option of bypassing that section in the first place.

The facts are that the information should have been there in the first place, the statement of free delivery for orders over £200 was definitely misleading.

They say it takes time to change a website, well they had enough time to change the shipping costs to Scotland so they could have updated the rest at the same time, it isn't rocket science.

Even now after having received an email saying the problem has been rectified the delivery information and pricing isn't transparent and still contradictory. It does say in the delivery section that Scotland incurs a shipping cost of £59.99, you have to go looking for that information though. But it doesn't say that they then include VAT on Scottish deliveries so the shipping cost is actually £71.99. So still not transparent.

The VAT on deliveries seems to be only for Scottish orders as when inputting an English address the VAT on deliveries goes away.

It also still says FREE DELIVERY on orders over £200. This is displayed on every page along the top and when you click on an item it is also there too, still with no mention of geographic exclusions such as Scotland.

So it is still totally misleading and not transparent about postage costs, which is what my reveiw was and still is about.

they say "All the best and please try and be nicer to companies, it's hard enough as it is without unnecessary negativity"

It seems that they like reveiws, they are plastered all over the website which is what prompted me to leave my review and yet when they don't like one they call it unnecessary negativity, I call that cherry picking the best ones. As for being unnecessary, I think it is totally necessary to make companies accountable when they are not being transparent or have misleading statements on their website.

Hi Mandy, I have to say this a very evil review to leave. You seem to have some vendetta against us, not sure why?

We responded to your email explaining that our logistics partner DX outsources to third party couriers in Scotland, this results in excess damages and losses of our products. We charge £59.99 to cover these costs we incur. This is the cost we set as a company and it's our decision, not yours!

The issue with your experience is you didn't complete the checkout, if you had filled in your delivery details, the system would have shown the delivery charge for your area. As you used PayPal express checkout you skipped this process.

We have contacted Trustpilot about your review as it's spreading misinformation, we aren't coning customers into hidden fees. We're trying to charge them £59.99 and certainly wouldn't be reimbursing it!

All the best and please try and be nicer to companies, it's hard enough as it is without unnecessary negativity.

Thanks

Joe

Update 10/07

Hi Mandy

Thanks for your response, I would appreciate if you could condense the essay down to a few points. Trustpilot is an online space for customers to leave feedback, you're not a customer. You're taking up our Trustpilot page and making it difficult for potential customers to read reviews from actual customers.

I have read your points and again the review is just unnecessary, we have spoken to our Trustpilot account manager who even thinks your review is 'very extreme'. You're not happy to pay delivery, that's totally your option and I agree with you, we could have been more proactive in getting the information changed regarding deliveries to Scotland. What I can't fathom is when you saw the delivery cost for your postcode you didn't just close our website, find another supplier and move on with your life. You have gone on a negative campaign!

Regarding cherry picking reviews, which company doesn't? If you actually look at our reviews on all platform's you will see you're the one and only one star feedback, in ten years of being in business online you're the first. I feel this says more about you as an individual more than it does about us as a company.

Anyway, we could go back and forth all day and I'm sure it's a good read for most but to try and put a line under it, If you do order with us we will offer you FREE delivery and we will even donate what you should have paid to a charity of your choice.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Joe

Great company, quality timber.

I placed an order with Skirting King, including a skirting board and dado rail. After a few days I received a call from John the sale manager of Skirting King, explaining that part of the order had been damaged in transit/ delivery.

John was very apologetic, and said the damaged goods would be replaced and delivered the next day.
He was true to his word, and I took delivery the next day, John was fantastic with his response.
I highly recommend Skirting King, the quality of their timber is exceptional and I will certainly use them again. Thank you 👍

Great experience using Skirting king!!

Great experience using Skirting king!!
I ordered 18x 4.2m sheets of Torus skirting 120mm and 10x 4.2m Torus architrave 70mm. All primed and delivered within 7 days in perfect condition ready to be fitted. The delivery guy was also very helpful and efficient. Using Skirting King has also saved me around 50% of the cost of buying from B&Q, Wickes etc.
I cannot recommended Skirting King enough.
Great product, great value and great people.

Exceptional service

I was looking for specific architrave and skirting boards, and Skirting King had a great selection to choose from, with options for depth and height – a definite bonus! I received regular updates as my order was manufactured and delivered.

Unfortunately, there was an issue with the delivery; the courier only delivered half of my order, which I didn’t realize until weeks later. Thankfully, Skirting King responded quickly and personally, confirmed the mistake, and immediately offered to re-manufacture the missing items. Exceptional service! While I don’t often need to order these items, Skirting King will definitely be my go-to source when I do.

Great product and competitive price. The customer service is amazing. I forgot to add one item to my list so I contacted the company to point out my mistake. They ended up sending my order along with the item I had missed off at no extra charger. I would definitely use them again
