Stay away

I have been charged at the time of booking even though I booked a month in advance. The car was dirty and had a large dent not mentioned in the agreement. They also charged me for fuel??? Told me not refill it as they will only charge for what I only use. At the end they didn’t refund me a penny where I only used half a tank. Worst experience I ever had with a car rental.
Won’t use them again.

I WOULD NOT GIVE THEM A STAR IF I COULD!

I WOULD NOT GIVE THEM A STAR IF I COULD!

All other comments on trust pilot resonate with my experience. Tried to sell/trick us into taking each product and blackmailed us into using the insurance. They sold us a full tank of petrol saying that we would 100% use it driving from Dubroknik to Zadar (only used half) saying and highlighting with a graph that we will save money. They showed us videos of landslides and flooding (even faking a call with a car being flooded - scare tactic) to ensure that we took insurance. They then said that we need insurance otherwise we will have to fork out 1400 euros as a deposit. If we paid for the insurance then our deposit was 500 euros. Come the end of the holiday we were then told that it takes two weeks to get the deposit back and this isn't their fault it is my bank. On top of this we had to wait for an hour in the rain to meet the lady at reception, the lady at reception was deceiving and rude, demanding us to close the door etc.. the car was provided and no care was given and no check had been made.

Do not hire from this company, they will rob you blind.

From start to finish Sixt car hire in croatia do everything in their power to get and keep as much money from you as possible. We ended up paying twice as much ON TOP of the original hire value due to not taking out their insurance, even though I had that covered with my Credit Card provider. 208euro charge on top for (1) Fuel (although we booked a Full to Full package, they would not accept this and said we HAD to take the Full to Empty, effectively paying them 52EUROS for a tank of fuel that we used half of, with no option to refund the additional fuel) and (2) 155EUROS for insurance THAT WE DID NOT REQUIRE but would not let us take the car without. On top of that, the security deposit of 1200 euros is absolutely absurd, I called Sixt in the UK and explained we were going to croatia, they advised us that the security deposit would be between 500-750 euros in croatia, yes the 1200 euros is stated in the paperwork they supply in croatia but was not supplied on my booking information, me and my friend re-read the booking information several times and there was no amount stated, just that there would be a security deposit taken. First and most certainly the last time using Sixt, bunch of thieves, I couldn't believe how we were treated and the additional costs. No care whatsoever from the desk in Croatia, just shrugs of the shoulders.

Customer service is poor

Picked up a car from Dubrovnik and was told there would be extra charges if we were to go on a ferry and very expensive to add a second driver.
Car provided was clean however did not have ANY windscreen wash fluid. We only found this our onthe middle of a motorway with tons of squashed bugs onthe windscreen. Calling the global customer service number told us to speak to both Dubrovnik sixt, and to the office in split (where we were headed). Neither picked up theirs phones for 2 days.
When we dropped the car to the office at split airport, the woman behind he desk looked like Barbie and couldn’t care less about the problem (think dirty eye roll, shrug and tut all in one motion).
The car tyre pressure sensors kept going off yet when tested (by us) were fine. Explaining this at split we were told ‘the heat does that. It’s normal. It’s fine.’ Would have been useful to know this before we started our journey and not at the end. 10 days later.
Poor customer service. As they do their checks on the car, don’t let them rush you doing YOUR checks! And god forbid you need to call customer services!

We were traveling through the Balkans

We were traveling through the Balkans, and wanted to pick up a car at the airport in Ljubljana and drop it off two weeks later in Dubrovnik. I had never heard of this company before, and booked through it because it was significantly cheaper than any other company. It was only after I had booked that I started to read all the horrible reviews, so it was with some trepidation that I kept my reservation. We arrived in Ljubljana and were treated very professionally by the agent . He explained that since we were not purchasing their insurance (because our VISA card covered it) that there would be a $2000 retainer on our card that would only be charged if there was damage not covered. We were given a very nice, comfortable car, and drove away. When we returned it two weeks later, in Dubrovnik, there we were also treated well. The agent examined the car, told us that there were no additional charges, and even drove us to our hotel. He said that we would be billed through the Ljubljana office. When my credit card was charged a few days later, there were no additional charges. I would not hesitate to use this company again.

Avoid Sixt Croatia

Car hire abroad can be difficult or stressful, but Sixt at Croatia Split airport has provided, by some margin, the worst car rental experience I have ever had.

I told them I did not want additional drivers added to the contract; they told me it was already included in the price I had paid and that I may as well add a name as it was a waste not to. I signed the paperwork and they charged me for the addition driver on the return of the car...

Also this was after a 1hr45min wait in a queue to be served because the WiFi was playing up and for some reason they hadn't thought that it might be a little busy in August. Then followed a lecture about why I should take out their insurance as the insurance I had taken out separately couldn't possibly be of any use in Croatia.

100% awful... AVOID, AVOID, AVOID

Awful. Avoid. Avoid! Avoid!

Awful. Avoid! Watch out for "free upgrades" that aren't free and ignoring insurance/liability bought from UK. Worst experience of car hire. We'll never use the company again - a thoroughly grim experience.

Very dangerous, keep away from Sixt

I rented a car from this company and had a very bad experience. When I returned the car, all Croatian people were busy to watch the world Cup final on TV. It was OK for me. So I have returned the key in the empty reception. After I flew out from Split airport, I noticed I left my jacket in the car. Later I called them and they confirmed they found my jacket.. Initially, they said they will post it to me but they suddenly decided not to do. I told I can pay the postage also handling charge but they refused. So I gave up because I do not have an opportunity to travel there. Apparently, I assume they throw away my jacket.

The worst customer experience ever

The worst customer experience ever. Waited an hour to be seen to on arrival. Two staff in August and 30 people in a queue. Just tried to upsell everything under the sun. No guide or tour of the car. Just handed a set of keys. Had a blow out on a motorway and none of the numbers they had provided worked. On taking the car back I complained and was told the Manager would call me. They did not
Now been charged £181 extra for no reason and none of their people are replying to email, phone call or even Twitter now
Totally useless

SCAM

SCAM! Every story I have read about sixt Dubrovnik airport is true. Unfortunatly I read it AFTER i returned the car. They will charge you for extra insurance and other "fees" even if you have booked this online via Holidaycars.com. My end recipt after delivering the rental car was double price of what i prepayed online. Do not rent cars from this company!

This company do everything they can to…

This company do everything they can to rip customers off. Hired from Split downtown in May 2018 for 10 days. Booked thru Rentalcars.com. Sixt refused to accept the price quoted for a second driver despite it being on the printed contract to which they were a party.. Tried to sell me insurance I didn't need. All the stuff you will read about this company if you look around the internet. Cars are 200m along the road from the office - not fun if it is raining. Had to argue repeatedly to get a physical copy of existing damage on the car. They try to record it electronically so you don't have a secure record. The car was not what we ordered, but perfectly OK. Dirty on the outside making any damage hard to see, Make sure you photograph everywhere, especially under the door sills. They don't seem to believe in normal wear and tear despite their own contract. Car was OK inside. Near new. Went well.
Sixt insist on charging a fee to take the car into Slovenia another EU country where there is supposedly free passage - that's a total rip-off.
Return in Zagreb was OK. car marked as undamaged, but you must insist to get this in writing. They also have a line over the page ( not pointed out) that says the car was heavily soiled inside when it was actually clean - we don't like messy vehicles, The clause said they could charge me later for cleaning- even after I had it signed off and had gone! When I discovered, I called (within 2 hours) and disputed this. They said that was just standard and it wouldn't apply to me. Yeah right! They refused to confirm that by email, so I emailed them instead strongly protesting. Never got a reply. typical Sixt customer service once they have your money.
Strongly suggest you avoid this company especially the odious manager in the Split office. Even his staff were secretly agreeing with me that they were embarrassed by Sixt's rip-off attempts..
Have rented all over the world without any dramas for over 40 years. Will never go near Sixt again. You have been warned. Pity really because everyone else we met in Croatia was great.

Strongest Warning!

Strongest Warning!
They will try to rip you off!!!!
We booked the car at home via a third party and was convinced that we had everything we needed including all insurance etc.
(Which later showed to be correct)
But at arrival in their office they emedietly tried so hard to tell us that we needed this and that extra and standing there late in the evening after a long trip with little food it is not easy to stand against...
It costed us some 250€ extra FOR NOTHING!

So be careful!

Like the last review

Like the last review, we had a very positive experience with Sixt. We picked the car up in Rovinj and dropped it in Split. We made the booking through Sky Scanner and Holiday Autos.

Like the last reviewer, we got the sales spiel on pickup. We declined the offer of reducing the deposit and insurance topup and they didn't push it once we said no.

Got a free upgrade as they didn't have our car size available. The upgraded car had less than 1000 kilometers on the clock and had navigation built in.

Returning the car was quick and simple and the block on our credit card was released basically straight away.

Just got back from 9 days in Croatia…

Just got back from 9 days in Croatia pre booked a Ford Focus estate from Sixt at Split airport. I've never booked through them before so was expecting a barrage of problems reading these reviews..

Here's the actual events..

Walked in to empty (apart from 1 person) office. Met by very nice and very pleasant lady who went through the usual 'take your details' stuff. Once that was done which took 5 minutes she offered me an upgrade to a Nissan Quashqoi (all singing all dancing top of the range) for an extra 7 euro per day (that's the same price as hiring a satnav..which was already in the car..and a very good one). I took the upgrade and the car was totally amazing..brand new without a mark on it. There was no need to take photo's in advance because it was in mint condition and the nicest car I've ever driven.

They asked me about taking out the insurance and I told them I already had that covered through i-insurance online (27 pounds) and she then explained she had to go through the sales talk anyway..which was fine.

Then went to pick up car across the road and all 5 of us were amazed at how cool the car was..glass roof..cruise control..360 degree camera's.Every extra imaginable.MINT condition inside and out.

They blocked my card for 1600 euro and 2 days after we got back I still haven't been charged anything but the card HAS ALREADY BEEN UNBLOCKED..my whole balance is available to use. I expect to be charged around 175 euro on top of my initial 90 pound deposit which includes the upgrade and fuel costs (they tell you to bring it back as empty as possible as they get tax relief on the fuel and charge 58.50 euro for the diesel)

In short..I got a top of the range brand new car for around 250 quid for 9 days.

Brilliant service..top notch car..no money taken off my card as yet. Great service.I would recommend Sixt Split to anyone.

My Horror story with @SixtHR

My Horror story with @SixtHR - Recently rented a car through them and wanted to post my experience. Upfront while renting the car- everything was as hospitable as it can be. We drove the car around for the next days of our rental and returned the car. It was great. Normally this would mean- you get the receipt and you are done. But story just begins. I get a receipt in the email. If I did not look at the receipt or the credit card, I would not have identified this “theft”. Additional rental charge of around 450 euros listed as “other damages”. I was flabbergasted and wondered what could have happened. So I write an email to customer care and inquire politely. The return email says that there was “A scratch” which led to that charge. I had heard of all the horror stories about how they do this prior to renting on blogs but I had such good experiences with @SixtUSA , I ignored it (mistake that I terribly regret). Thankfully ( at least I thought so), I took pictures before AND after the rental. When I showed them the pictures, their excuse is “your pictures don’t have a DATE next to it” and hence we will not validate them. What a disappointment ? If this was @SixtUSA, this customer harassment hopefully would not have happened. I am sorry but @SixtUSA also took a hit because of such lousy, inconsiderate customer care for me. Looking back this is not the only experience people have had @SixtHR. Croatia is a beautiful country but such disappointing experiences really take its charm away. If you ever go to Croatia- do not, I repeat do not rent through @SixtHR unless you want to be disappointed. I hope that this experience serves as learning for others.

Warning Sixt rent a car Croatia and Munich

Just a warning to those who wish to rent a car whilst in Europe. We recently rented a car in Debrovnik. They didn’t have the car we initially booked. Although not very happy, we took the downgraded option given to us. We had the car for over two weeks and returned it at the Munich airport. We were surprised and concerned when informed that we can just park the car in the parking bay and go. There was no one there to look through the car with us or to do a formal sign off. I took a few pictures of the car just to proof that it was returned as planned.

Unfortunately, we received a credit card statement later indicating an additional €700 charge. We had no idea why. We wrote several emails to their headquarters, Croatia and Munich branches and made some phone calls but had received no reply.

We contacted our credit card company to dispute the charges. Surprisingly, we received an email from Croatia (on the same day) stating the damage was on the windscreen. And there is clearly no damage on the pictures I have taken. The matter is still unresolved. Not sure what will happen next.

Please don’t be too trusting and hope you have a great holiday and drive wherever you intend to go.

Hired car from split airport for 2 weeks. Car itself was very good, brand new, no problems with rental itself. Had to wait in queue for about 30 mins to collect car, was quoted for an upgrade which we accepted, but price quoted did not include 25% tax charge.

DO NOT! RENT FROM SIXT RENT A CAR

DO NOT RENT FROM SIXT RENT A CAR

This company will lie to you and charge your credit card extra without telling you and not refund you're money... if you don't believe me just try it... what ever they quote you is a lie! they will add charges on your rental after you have specifically declined extra features or insurance etc.`

got a good quote for 3 days from Dubrovnik to Zagreb and i made sure i declined extra insurance, but they added it anyways! with out my knowledge and charged my credit card and after a month of dispute they refunded nothing. and said basically to bad... not nice to deal with if there is an issue and not honest.

Sixt at Split airport: beware of additional fees

The employee at pickup talked a lot and 'pushed' me to take a prepaid fuel option, meaning they would fill up the tank at return with petrol 10% cheaper. He also asked if I would need to cross borders and since there was a chance (you need to cross Bosnia for Dubrovnik), I said yes. No price was indicated for both. I picked up the car which was not new as claimed by the same employee: it had 10000km. It was dirty outside, the rear wiper was totally broken and it had wet floors inside. At return I was faced with an extra invoice of 65€: 35€ of 'full tank' though the car missed 2/8th of petrol. I drove back to Trogir, filled it for 15€ and they cancelled it! 19€ for crossing borders option which was never mentioned at pickup. I also didn't cross border but it doesn't matter, I had to pay for it. Finally 11€ for roadside assistance, which is 'mandatory' but also never mentioned anywhere. Oh, they took a deposit of 1000€ on my credit card because I didn't waive the own risk. Let's see if they return the money. And the final invoice was in Croatian, impossible to further check by any tourist.
