Stay away from this company

Stay away from this company. They have low prices but will come up with some fabricated damage. They hold back your deposit to cover this so called damage. Choose another company, trust me this company is speculating in false damages. Regards Jostein Albrigtsen

Straightforward all round

Wanted to leave a positive review as I was nervous in renting for the first time despite being a confident driver. I read the bad stories etc.etc. and saw it playing out in real time at the supplier. Its world of horror stories which seem to be mainly from people who cannot follow instructions.

Follow the rules, take the precautions that are well publicised and all will be fine. Car was in good order, some bodywork dents etc but served me well for the week. Handover back was quick and easy. Transfer was also quick and easy.

Dismal customer service and false advertisement

Unbelievably poor service I have received during my recent booking with RENTSMART24 Bologna. I had made a reservation for a premium vehicle, specifically an Alfa Romeo Tonale or a similar model. However, to my surprise, I was provided with a Citroen C5, which, as you can appreciate, is not comparable, especially considering that the Citroen models listed on your website are nearly half the price of the Alfa Romeo Tonale.

Upon entering the car, I noticed the oil pressure light came on immediately. Concerned for my safety, I refused to drive the vehicle and was informed that the only alternative available was a Citroen C3 in manual transmission. Despite my repeated requests for an automatic (I am from the UK and really did not feel comfortable driving a manual in a different country), I was told this was the only option. I made it clear to the staff that I was uncomfortable driving a manual car, yet I was not provided with a suitable solution and was ushed into the car so that they could go home.

Additionally, I was assured that I would be compensated for the inconvenience caused and that my desired vehicle would be ready upon my return. Unfortunately, I was rushed out the door with no clear resolution, leaving me extremely dissatisfied. Also due to this now delay, my holiday is also now on delay.

The Citroen C3 was in terrible condition, emitting a horrendous clattering sound from the front, which further disrupted my plans. I have a video of this issue, should you require proof. As a result, my holiday was delayed as I had to find a parking spot and wait until morning to return the vehicle.

When I finally returned the Citroen C3, I was provided with a Seat Arona, which, again, is not remotely similar to the Alfa Romeo Tonale, and is almost half the price of the vehicle I had paid for. This is completely unacceptable, as I paid for a premium product and was given nothing close to what was promised.

To add to my frustration, I was then told that you do not even have an Alfa Romeo Tonale on-site, which raises the question of why this vehicle was advertised in the first place. The entire experience has been extremely disappointing, and my holiday was disrupted as a result of this situation.

I have sent various emails about my frustration, experience and no response.

Why have I paid for a premium product that doesn’t exist when I can pay half and get the car you was going to give to me anyway?

Not acceptable and the customer service during and since has been truely disappointing.

Very kind customer service

Very kind customer service. I was told by the airport shuttle service that the reservation auto-cancels after 1hour of delay, and I thought it’s no use to go to get the car. Later, however, I got a call from the rentsmart office that my car is there. The worker waited for me until after midnight and didn’t demand any extra charge. Returning was smooth, too.

This is a totally scam

This is a totally scam . When we finally found them they picked us up and drove os outside the city .
They didn’t accept my creditcard as a creditcard , even though I only have this creditcard for travel , renting cars , deposit on hotels and have used it several times. All demands described in the voucher were met , but not for them , I should pay 408 euro extra to receive my car . Another customer next to me experienced exactly the same . They referred to the company we have booked the car from . Wr been thrown out from their office because more customers came . They said we should go with their driver right now or we should walk . So no car and the company we rented trough are the same . Scam! don’t rent here

Total scam

Total scam, we are 6 people here with credit cards which works worldwide "coincidentally" not working in Italy and they want all of us to pay 308 euro extra for insurance, don't ever use these guys

I had a very disappointing experience…

I had a very disappointing experience with this car rental company. They tried to charge me for damages I did not cause, and even worse, they used a document with a signature that I never signed. The amount they’re asking for is outrageously high, and I believe they are targeting customers who don’t take their insurance.

When I contacted customer service to dispute the charge, they were extremely rude and unhelpful. Instead of listening or trying to resolve the issue, they were dismissive and impolite.

Never rent from them. This experience felt like a scam, and I would never trust this company again. Be very cautious if you decide to rent here—take detailed photos and document everything.

Do not use

Do not use. They charge you added premiums that are 3x the price of the rental itself if you collect the vehicle after your selected time even when caused by a flight delay and when you have already checked in online so there is nothing for them to do.

I waited in line for 40 minutes to drop…

I waited in line for 40 minutes to drop off my car. I was charged 20€ for dropping off my car 1 hour late. Then I waited 10 minutes for the shuttle to pick me up, I missed my flight and had to spend 24 hours at the airport, I paid 500€ extra. I was 10 minutes late, just 10 ((((

Fuel deposit confused

I though a deposit had not been repaid. But it turned out the amount had been reserved on my card and the blocked amount released. This confused me as some other hire companies actually deduct the fuel and then repay it causing three transactions on the card : 1) Rental 2) fuel cost out 3) fuel cost refund.

The actual hire was great. Really simple and a good price.

It's unfortunate something got 'lost in translation' on block and release versus pay and refund. I'm wondering if others who report problems had a similar issue.

WATCH OUT, Hidden charges

At first it was great and easy! But unfortunately we didn’t know about how the toll roads worked and since we didn’t speak Italian we got a “fine”/ full toll payment, which we was later told by our sweet host that we could get reduced to the actual amount for that stretch of road (mind this was 2/3€) All we had to do was to ask talking the place where we rented our car, if we should contact someone ourselves or if they were supposed to handle it .. here begins the shit show!!!

I was told no, YOU would help me. I asked what does that cost, “oh nothing” - WRONG
Freaking 4 months later I get charged 2.xx€(the amount for the stretch of road) + 40€ and some for you to “handle it” ..
I asked what that was for and you showed me the contract - and alright my mistake for not reading that close enough, so I paid and put it behind me.

BUT NOW!!!! freaking 8 months later, you charge me for the same shit one more time - the EXACT same amount AND the EXACT same freaking “fine”!

Get you shit together and PAY ME MY DAMN MONEY BACK!!!!

We had some complications during our trip, and they were very accommodating in rescheduling the pickup time. The car was clean, in good condition, with no technical issues. After returning it, we checked the vehicle together and were driven to the nearby airport within a few minutes. Everything went smoothly and reliably. Thank you

Unprofessional, scam artists, avoid

If you enjoy being scammed with a side of passive aggression and velociraptor cosplay, Rentsmart24 at Venice Airport is the car rental experience for you.

Let’s start with the good:
Booking was smooth.
Shuttle instructions said Stop C, but the actual pickup was at Stop B, a fun little scavenger hunt to get the adrenaline going.
Car pickup was fine. We were told any damage under 2cm wasn’t reportable, but naturally we photographed every molecule of the vehicle like forensic scientists at a crime scene.

Dropping the car off was like entering a parallel universe where customer service is a myth and acrylic nails double as weaponry.
The woman at the desk, name forgotten, talons unforgettable snatched the keys and told us to wait while she inspected the car. Alone. For 20+ minutes. We were tight for time, but she had the urgency of a sloth on sedatives.

She claimed we damaged the car and presented her pièce de résistance: a single strand of my hair inside the vehicle. Yes, €150 for follicular terrorism. She even emailed us the photographic evidence like she’d cracked the Da Vinci Code.

When we showed her our own photos (taken as instructed), she scoffed and said we could’ve edited them. Because clearly, we’re part-time Photoshop wizards with a vendetta against rentsmart24.

Then came the grand finale: she tried to trick me into signing a document to “release the deposit” which was actually an agreement to the damages. I refused. She laughed and said I wouldn’t get my deposit back.

Joke’s on her. My bank took one look at their “proof,” laughed harder than we did, and refunded me in full.

Final verdict:
If you’re into psychological warfare, surprise fees, and being gaslit by someone with claws longer than your patience, Rentsmart24 is the place to be. Otherwise, trust the reviews and run, preferably faster than their customer service.

Avoid at all costs! Terrible experience with Rent Smart 24

I strongly advise against renting a car from Rent Smart 24. My experience was absolutely unacceptable from start to finish.

First, even though I had purchased a “full protection” package, Rent Smart 24 forced me to pay an extra €264 for their own insurance, claiming that my debit card wasn’t acceptable and that they only accept credit cards. This felt like a scam – I had no choice but to pay, or I wouldn’t get the car.

Second, despite their policy stating that all fluids and levels are checked before delivery, the AdBlue was nearly empty. The car displayed a warning saying it wouldn’t restart after 400 km unless I refilled it myself. That’s completely irresponsible.

Worse yet, after just 200 km, a check engine light came on. When I returned the car and told them, they said they already knew about the issue! So they knowingly rented out a car with a mechanical problem – totally unacceptable and unsafe.

Finally, we had to wait over 30 minutes at midnight to get the car, even though three staff members were present. Completely unprofessional.

This company is dishonest, careless, and unsafe. Do yourself a favor and never rent from Rent Smart 24. There are many other rental companies that are more reliable, transparent, and respectful of their customers.

They simply steal money out of your…

They simply steal money out of your credit card. My credit card has been charged twice in two months for no reason. The rental has been closed on the 10th of April, they charged my card for 42 euros in May and 42 euros in June! I had to block my card to avoid them stealing money from me! They don´t answer to your requests and don´t want to clarify the situation! Stay away from these thieves!

PLEASE READ BEFORE BOOKING!! AVOID!!

Absolutely disgusting experience and completely destroyed a wonderful trip in the Dolomites. Charged €840 for damages which were on the car previously!! Company takes no responsibility for poor maintenance or record keeping!! Staff were spiteful and vindictive.

I had a full review on trip advisor but it has since been taken down by trip advisor at their request. Disappointing by Trip advisor to say the least.

Please exercise extreme caution with this company! I am out of pocket a lot of money for damages already on the car when rented and with the emails I have had back and forth with them it does not look like it will be returned to me.
Very disappointing and completely ruined an otherwise amazing trip.

As my review has been taken down on Trip advisor and I have had to change the language in this one due to a strong arm email from them saying quote;
"Please be reminded that the use of improper and serious terms such as “fraud,” “scam,” or similar language may have legal consequences.
Your communications will be reviewed by our legal department".

So, please just save yourself time, money and stress and use a more reputable company. If this review hasn't swayed maybe just check out all the other low rated reviews as there are many.

Money loss, mismanagement

Short review: mismanagement / fraud, money loss.

On May 31, 2025, a RentSmart24 sales representative at Venice Airport confirmed a Revolut debit card was valid for car rental payment. Based on this, I registered and paid in advance. However, on June 1, 2025, the RentSmart24 office manager denied the vehicle, stating the Revolut card was unacceptable.

No refund was provided, the response from the company:

Unfortunately, based on our internal investigation and the absence of the necessary documentation required for qualification under our company policy, we are unable to proceed with a refund.

I am completely disappointed with Rent Smart 24. I returned the vehicle on July 3rd, 2025 after a thorough inspection with their staff, who confirmed that the car was in perfect condition. Despite this, I was suddenly hit with a shockingly high damage charge of €874 — for damages I did not cause!

The company’s process is clearly flawed or dishonest. They inspected the vehicle with me at the time of return and found no issues, yet later, out of nowhere, they claim there’s damage. How can this happen? It feels like a scam to squeeze more money out of customers.

The amount they are charging for a windscreen is absurd and entirely unjustified. I have zero confidence in their honesty or professionalism. This experience has left me feeling frustrated, cheated, and completely dissatisfied. I wouldn’t recommend Rent Smart 24 to anyone. They don’t seem to care about customer fairness or transparency.

Avoid at all costs!
