Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 45 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many customers found the basic banking processes frustrating, with issues like blocked cards and difficulties with simple bank transfers. Communication was often poor, and people reported not receiving updates or being informed about important account changes. The customer service was frequently described as terrible, with long wait times, unhelpful staff, and a lack of responsiveness, particularly through web chat. Online banking was consistently found to be unreliable and difficult to access, leading to problems with payments and account management. Some people were dissatisfied with the mortgage application process, finding it overly complicated and ultimately unsuccessful, even for loyal customers. Conversely, a small portion of people felt satisfied with the helpful and pleasant staff, specifically mentioning individuals who went above and beyond to resolve their issues.

I think the bank has turned into a…

I think the bank has turned into a joke. unfortunately I have a personal account and business account. I called online banking the other day trying to change my address as I had moved home. I was a full 10 min on the phone before I got through to the right department. push 1 push 3 push 4. you can't access business banking on your phone it has to be by laptop, and If you call up personal and business are 2 different departments! I applied for a mortgage a few months back from Ptsb, a portal was set up. the information they were looking for was way over the top(and both my accounts were with them) I applied for a mortgage with my credit union around the same time, I had mortgage approval in principle within a week! ill be closing both my Ptsb accounts in the coming weeks. I used to bank with ulster bank and in my opinion they were about 20 years ahead of them, when you needed to contact them it was just one person you needed to talk to. if your reading this AVOID Ptsb at all costs honestly they are not worth it.

PTSB told me to go to Revolut

I needed to book flights and they said the credit limit on my VISA Debit was €2500. I needed €5000. Asked them could they change the limit for 5 minutes so I could pay for the flights they told me to send the money to Revolut and pay that way. I have since lost the deposit that was holding my flights and the flights. Well done PTSB.

Terrible customer service

Terrible customer service
My mum has been trying to to get a new bank card from them since February 2025 and still no joy . Won’t put any reason in writing as to why they won’t supply the card and lied about never receiving an online complaint despite the fact that we have an on-screen acknowledgement that they received the complaint . Only thing to do now is to close the account and move to another bank . Disgraceful .

Use a Credit Union Bank - avoid PTSB like the plague

If i could give a minus rating, i would give PTSB a minus 1,000,000 rating. Every possible excuse is or has been given, by EVERY staff member i've dealt with over the past 7 months. I was forced, for legal reasons, to try to simply get a form from them, and then, to find someone trustworthy in a branch, to take the completed form [and the valuable backup docs required] back from me. I've visited 4 branches so far. Each time i visit one, i'm the only customer there ? Any staff awake there look like they are bored to death, and every one of them say "you'll have to contact xxx at another branch to discuss that - it's not my job' ....
Extremely disappointing customer service, it felt like I was dealing with completely untrained staff at each branch, and, on the mind-numbing helpline. I spent MANY hours being passed from one person to another with no resolution or any promised callbacks. Day after day, week after week. Even the simplest issues seemed far too complex for them. The PTSB website isn’t any better - frustrating to use to put it mildly - and don't even think about trying to use their 'online appointment system' [actually, if you have time to waste, try it and you'll see what i mean].
If one of their 'managers' does ring you to discuss, you had better make sure you don't have to call them back - because when you ring ANY of the numbers they have used to contact you, you'll hear a message saying 'this number is no longer in use'. They also have a policy of not answering the Customer Care number after 17:05, even though it's supposed to be manned up to 17:30. Disgracefully, you'll hear a message saying 'you're the next caller in the queue' - to keep you hooked. Another shocking practice.

There are three pillar banks in Ireland. It's incredible that i have to truthfully state on this review, in 2025, that you should avoid one of those pillar banks like the plague - PTSB - a company clearly run by, [and staffed by too, i'm sorry to say], overpaid wasters.

There should be an option for Zero Stars

PTSB has to be the worst banking serivice in Ireland. Nothing ever works and the customer service is brutal. The app doesn't work, the website doens't work and you're on the phone for hours to get absoultely no where.

If it wasn't for my mortgage being linked to PTSB I wouldn't go near it. It is brutal.

Likely massive problems behind closed doors. Last time I experienced problems accessing funds that were lodged into account was post 08, quick research shows that not alone unable to access the money even they show on the account. Add this to buggy or non working app, I would be worried to keep any decent amount or for business purposes as not dependable when needed.

Things you need to know before opening a PTSB account

For anyone thinking of opening a PTSB account, things you should know as I have gotten caught out badly today. The maximum transaction value on a PTSB Visa debit card in €2500. I have tried to buy some parts in the UK and cant make payment.
I then tried to set them up as a Payee but because they are in the UK, I have to drive 45 minutes into Galway to set the Payee up in the branch and 45 minutes back. I CANT BELIEVE IN 2025 THAT THIS IS HAPPENING WITH AN ONLINE BANKING SERVICE. PTSB, ARE YOU FOR REAL??????

Shocking service

Shocking service. Tried to call them regarding a suspicious transaction on my account and was waiting for almost an hour before I had to hang up. Calling them a second time now, and it seems it may be the same scenario. Pity about them having to do their job and answer the phone.

Unreliable App and high Variable rates.

Again. Their PTSB App fails to load and has again let me down when I needed to use it quiet urgently..Cannot depend on it . Very unreliable and also PTSB have the highest Variable Mortgage rates in the country and unlike other lenders ,they seem to be not coming down anytime soon as they should...A sham of a bank.

Extremely poor service

Extremely poor service. I'm unable to log in to online banking through both the app and the website browser for a week now. I am overseas currently. This level of unreliability is unacceptable for a bank. I strongly advise others to report this to the Financial Ombudsman, as the bank is failing to meet its service obligations—despite customers paying monthly fees for access.

This app is shocking

This app is shocking, cannot log on 80% of the time, you have to keep trying. Cannot rely on this app particularly if you are out and about and want to check balance or make transfer.

Where would you start

Where would you start, website will not connect - ever..!. The App works once in a while and will crash once connected. The IT infrastructure must be literally falling apart. My wifes card was blocked while away and they answer was to use the Website chat, which she cannot do because ----- the website is not reachable. Only that our mortgage is with these cowboy's, Id be gone in a shot.

Expensive for the poor service

App is always down, usually at the time your trying to make payments. Codes don't get sent half the time to make online payments. And you can't submit an online complaint without error messages coming up, overall a very expensive bank for poor service.
