Horrible

Horrible, took them a year to finally send me a debit card. Blocked my credit card and access to my account over the holidays while I was abroad. This despite calling their fraud department and customer service to prove it was indeed me using the card. I will be closing this account, best stay away!!!!!!;

Incredibly incompetent

Incredibly incompetent! They are impossible to deal with, and they keep on making mistakes and billing errors and then backtracking. I’ve had to set up auto pay three different times with them!

I don’t feel they are transparent in their dealing, and they are taking the bottom of the barrel in terms of employees

Disappointment

I would first like to say I was with Penfed for 18 years. Fraud was committed on my account and instead of them helping me, they closed my account. I will never go back or recommend anyone to this bank. They just totally turned their back on me 2 days before Christmas. I believe God has a plan for everyone.

Auto Refinance Rates at 4.95% are FALSE Advertising

Auto refinance rates advertised at 4.95% are nonsense. If your report is frozen, it gets stuck in their system with no follow up even if you unlock. Emails get ignored.

I reapply and it's higher than what I'm paying with rates 9-11%. I've had the loan for 1 year. PenFed is a complete joke.

Got an urgent notice in the mail saying…

Got an urgent notice in the mail saying I need to take immediate action on home policy and I may have my policy expired. They said they could bypass the physical inspection if I'll answer a few questions on payment. Turned out to be another company that got leads from Pentagon Federal credit Union and they would not answer my questions.
I then called Pentagon and after waiting for 5 minutes, I said I wanted to notify Pentagon that they're sending out deceptive advertising for warranty insurance pretending to be from Pentagon. All I was told was that they cannot handle any action and I would have to call the federal government. I said all I want to do was let you know so you could pass the word on that. This needs to be stopped. She would not agree to send a message to management to look into the situation and said I can't take action of any kind. I said maybe I need to look for a different company.

Do NOT refinance your car with these…

Do NOT refinance your car with these people. I've never once missed a payment, and they raised my interest rate from 6% to 18% without notifying me. They called me a month after raising it to say that I had been on delinquent status for a month and that I was overdue on $139. I didn’t see how this was possible, as I have autopay, and the app showed that I've made all my payments on time. After 30 minutes on the phone, I was finally informed that they had never received my title from the previous lienholder (Ally) and that this was why my interest rate had gone up. I didn’t understand how this was my fault, so I had them open a case where they would contact Ally and find out what happened to the title. Two days pass, and I hear nothing from PenFed. I finally decide to call Ally myself and confirm that the title had been sent to PenFed over six months ago. I call PenFed back, and it turns out that this was a lie, and they actually DID have the title; they just needed me to sign a power of attorney to have them switched over to being the lienholder. Two more days have passed, and they are now refusing to send the power of attorney letter so I can sign it and have my interest rate return to normal. Why are they not doing the one thing they claim they need? Why did they wait six months to inform me of all this and then continue to lie and send me on a wild goose chase? Why am I being charged for their mistake in the title transfer? This is such an easy issue to resolve, but unfortunately, every person I've spoken to has been completely incompetent.

Extortion of the Elderly

I am the power of attorney for my mother who is a credit card holder with this unethical business. My mother is incompetent mentally and physically. I am trying to make a payment because the bill is past due, change the address since she is in a nursing home and close the account due to her incompetence. They refused to help with any of it and refused to accept the power of attorney court documents by email. In addition, when I questioned them about continuing to add late fees and extorting my mother in order to make more money, the supervisor went quiet. I believe this company to be unethical and engage in extortive practices. I have filed complaints with the BBB, Pennsylvania State Attorney General's Office of Consumer Protection and Fraud, and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. I say to everyone: file complaints with every agency you can and stay clear of this unethical company at all costs.

PenFed: Ridiculously frustrating experience

I had a terrible experience with PenFed. Had a credit card they cancelled because, they say, I didn’t use it enough. I called to reactivate and they said I needed to reapply. I did so and the process was ridiculous. Required multiple applications, submission of documents, endless calls, etc. Was repeatedly told that their system doesn’t work much of the time. One estimate was 90%! Could never get a straight answer and I finally gave up. What a colossal waste of time.
