Short trip from Colombia to Europe
For a week-long trip from Colombia to Europe in September 2025, I purchased travel insurance with Pax Assistance for a coverage up to one million US dollars to cover potential medical issues, such as accidents or illnesses. Unfortunately, on the penultimate day of my trip to Europe and on the day of my return flight, I experienced a medical problem and spent the first day in the emergency room. Over the next two days, I underwent vital tests at a hospital to ensure my safe return home, which, thankfully, proved to be possible.
I immediately informed Pax Assistance on the first day and subsequently received a barrage of inquiries and calls from their call centers in several countries, even at night. After submitting all the medical reports and certificates from the attending physicians, Pax Assistance decided to pay only the paltry sum of approximately 10% of the first day's emergency room expenses and refused to cover the much larger portion for unconvincing reasons, such as coverage is only provided in the case of inability to begin the journey home which was exactly the case and confirmed by treating physicians. Obviously a legal challenge is sought.
In conclusion: Compared internationally, Pax Assistance travel ´insurance´ is very expensive, its customer service in the event of a claim is highly biased, even threatening, and its employees are trained to avoid and reject claims.
A company without scruples!
