Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 49 reviews, most reviewers were unhappy with their experience overall. Many consumers expressed significant dissatisfaction with product quality and durability, reporting that various appliances broke down unexpectedly or failed to perform correctly soon after purchase. Common issues included kettles discolouring, leaking, or over-boiling, toasters not browning evenly, and other items developing faults like cracked glass. Products were also criticized for poor design, making them difficult to clean or use effectively. However, some customers also noted positive resolutions regarding customer service and warranty claims. A few people reported receiving replacements for faulty products without significant hassle, describing the response as terrific. Conversely, others found the warranty process slow, requiring extensive proof like videos, leading to frustration with returns.

Replacement Kettle

I contacted Russell Hobbs when my kettle went faulty. After I submitted details of the fault with photos customer service very quickly came back to me to inform that the same model kettle was no longer available and offered me to choose another kettle from their catalogue within a certain price range (which happened to be higher). The kettle Of my choice arrived very quickly to my delight.
Excellent customer service both in communication and action. Thank you Russell Hobbs

Don’t buy Russell Hobbs!

I am pleased to update this review and say that Russel Hobbs have contacted us to offer a free replacement and an apology.

We were bought a kettle & toaster in December 2020, as Christmas present, both were chrome and copper panelled.

In less than 3 years the copper coating on the kettle body has bubbled and come away from the body of the kettle.

I sent Russell Hobbs parent company Spectrum Brands a lovely message, with photographic evidence.

Sadly I received an email saying that it was probably my fault due to sun damage or from an external heat damage. I pointed out it wasn’t in the sunlight, nor near an external heat source, and only had low usage, as it is in a 2 person household with a coffee machine so not used often.

Several emails later they have refused to take any responsibility and have just offered me discount if I buy a new one!

I am so disappointed that the quality I expected from Russell Hobbs and Spectrum Brands has been lacking, in both product and service.

It’s so sad that a company buys a reputable brand to then let the standards dwindle as Spectrum Brands clearly has here.

Should a high quality product really be so badly spoiled after such low usage?

Russell Hobbs Product Support is a Utter Disgrace

Follow up on the Snowdon lid not closing on a new kettle only used for 2 months from new but out of warranty due to being in storage. Russell Hobbs product support as below is a utter disgrace basically not to use and recycle it. Replacement refused

Look at the research done on their kettles which they seem oblivious to.

15% less than a year old, 64% less than 3 years old
54% became e-waste (thrown away or recycled)
Common faults (>10%):
It leaked around the handle, base or fill-level indicator: 33%
The lid wouldn’t open (button or mechanism to open it failed): 12%
It just stopped working – no power: 12%
The element failed (it had power, but stopped heating water): 10%

Key points in the Russell Hobbs Response

1. According to our records, the Snowdon Brushed Kettle model no. 20441 does not appear in our recalled products. Please note that only the products listed in this list: have known issues, and your product cannot be found to have manufacturing faults. ( My response to this) "It is well recorded the public domain Anna that Russell Hobbs kettles have faulty switch which is a design fault. The only item Russell Hobbs have recalled is a serious live threating fire risk which is considered mandatory so is meaningless and not a true comparison"

However, we are aware of the negative impact this has on the environment and know this is an issue which matters to our customers, and consider sustainability and carbon emissions to be a key factor in any business.

We are committed to continuously drive improvements with our products and I would like to assure you that your feedback has been logged and passed onto the relevant department for consideration and review, and any necessary changes will be made.

The satisfaction of our customers is our highest priority, and we strive to provide top-notch services, on a regular basis.

Please note that, as written in the user manual provided with the product, the appliance should not be operated if it is damaged or malfunctions.

If the lid no longer opens when the button is pressed, we do not recommend opening the lid manually, therefore please avoid using it to boil water, if you haven't already done so.

Since the warranty for this product has expired, we do recommend disposing of it at the nearest recycling spot.

If there’s anything else we can help you with, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Great Customer Service

Contacted them in order to obtain spare anti scale cartridge for a newly purchased steam iron. Stockists I had tried did not have any in stock. Although these are not for sale directly through the Russell Hobbs website they sourced them and I was able to order through them. Arrived very quickly.
Great customer service.

Our 21-600 model kettle becomes faulty…

Our 21-600 model kettle becomes faulty so you contact customer service. When they decide to get back you supply the required info.
You wait for them to get back again then they ask for the same info and a video of the problem.
The light went before a year old then coming up to 2 years the lid starts popping open upon boiling.
The item has a 2 year warranty why are they making it so difficult to claim for a replacement.
They assume we all own and know how to use the necessary tech to attach videos.

Purchased a Russell Hobbs RHM2086SS-SB…

Purchased a Russell Hobbs RHM2086SS-SB compact Digital Microwave. Stopped heating after 18 months; purchased In Sept 21. Apparently the Magnetron has gone. Deemed useless. The microwave was very poor, cheaply made, plastic. The appliance is too small for dinner plates. It was so lightweight when you closed its door, the whole appliance moved backwards across work surface. The mirror front door was problematic, and had to be polished with cloth. It really is not worth buying, not fit for purpose and neither is their customer service. Pile of crap. Don’t buy.

I’m onto my 3rd Russell Hobbs toaster

I’m onto my 3rd Russell Hobbs toaster. The only reason that I’m using a third toaster of theirs is that I’d bought a new one for a holiday home that is now sold, so it was “in waiting”. The first toaster I bought was a two slice fairly basic model but it worked beautifully until one day when I pulled down the handle to toast and it snapped off, rendering the appliance useless. I’m under 9 stone in weight and not heavy handed so I was surprised that this happened so soon after purchase and with pretty light use, as it was installed in the holiday home. I bought another Russell Hobbs toaster to replace it, a more expensive model and that seemed fine. The other day I went to use my other RH toaster in the family home ( a four slice model) and the handle just snapped off in my hand! As one side was useless I decided to throw it and use the one I have “in stock”. It’ll be interesting to see how long this one lasts. I don’t think I’ll be replacing it with a RH when it dies. Neither toaster was particularly old and both had quite light usage, but both were out of their guarantees.

A very BIG THANK YOU to Jamie C

A very BIG THANK YOU to Jamie C, Customer Services Advisor who really understands the meaning of the word "customer service" . I sent a query as more than one item involved and he responded on the same day requesting all required for the claim to be considered. I provided all verification as requested but then received what appeared to be a pro former reply to reject. I will admit I just deleted the email at first as have far more important things to deal with but after a couple of days, I emailed back with my impressions and again heard from Jamie very quickly who dealt with my claim more than fairly. It was a totally unexpected and has restored my faith in continuing to use Russel Hobbs .

Now they want a video of my Iron not getting hot!!

Bought a steam iron from Amazon. It stopped working after the return to Amazon date. Fair enough.
I contacted Amazon support who put me in touch with RH support. I resopnded to the first email from RH outlining the problem. Then they sent me another asking me, again, to outline the problem.
Simple it is not getting hot.
They then sent me a request for a video of the problem?? It is an iron not getting hot. Do they think I have an IR camera?
I can read through this : its seems like delaying tactics in the hope I will forget about it.
Disgusting experience.

I have a 3 year old Russel Hobbs Slow…

I have a 3 year old Russel Hobbs Slow Cooker where the controls were faulty. I asked this company for a repairer and they couldnt help me. This is not helped either as you need special tools to repair this item. Further I cannot find any small appliance repairer where I live to look at it.

Subsequentially I put up a draft review of the product in question on their webpage also mentioning environmental aspects of their products and repairability. This was not accepted more like they didnt want to listen to some home truths!

Very poor customer service

Very poor customer service. Do not carry stock of any parts that are removable. Suggest throw it away. Is this really the way forward that nothing is repairable even though its a simple part to replace. Not happy and why does this company want to help destroy our planet by throwing things away that are not recycled 100%. Shame on them

Good luck sourcing spare parts.

Good luck sourcing spare parts.
Equipment in general is ok but don't rely on customer service for your repair. Over all availability of parts is also very poor.

This company proofs why right to repair and providing decent repair info (like size of blender rings) should be mandatory.

Because of probably a 2 euro part the blender is now useless and will end up in the waste bin.

Never a R&H for me
