Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 47 reviews, most reviewers were unhappy with their experience overall. Many customers expressed significant dissatisfaction with the quality of the products, citing issues such as items breaking down quickly, developing faults, or showing signs of degradation after minimal use. People frequently encountered problems with appliances like kettles, toasters, and microwaves, which often failed within a short period or exhibited manufacturing defects. Reviewers also noted that products often did not match their online descriptions or images, leading to disappointment regarding appearance and finish. Some people were dissatisfied with the customer service, describing it as unhelpful, slow to respond, and often requiring excessive proof or documentation for warranty claims. Conversely, a small portion of people felt satisfied with the customer service, reporting quick resolutions and replacements for faulty items, particularly when purchased through third-party retailers. However, some customers also noted that the warranty process was often difficult, with claims sometimes not being honored or replacements being provided with limited remaining warranty periods.

Russell Hobbs CRAP toaster

Just bought russell hobbs 26060 from Argos. Bread (large white sliced) will not fit! Upright top portion sticks above so not toasted, sideways will not fit in. What's the point! Bad design, Argos will not take it back. Wonder what Jonathon Warburton would make of it? Shame on you Russell Hobbs, not buying anymore of their products.

Russell Hobb kettle

Russell Hobb kettle. This kettle over boils the water so much so that each time I used it, I stood over and waiting to switch it off as boiling water spits out the spout. I decided after 3 months I had enough and reported to customer service. Providing information was fine up to when they wanted a video of it working. I find this about joke, If I had bought it from the shop I am sure they wouldn’t ask for a video of proof ! Poor service and would never buy a Russell hobb product in future.

Firstly no stars

Firstly no stars, so I have to choose 1 star to get this review out there.
I bought a £40, 20460 Russell Hobbs kettle around two years ago.
The spring in the lid broke and as a result the lid wasn't opening.
I contacted RH and they asked me to supply photos of the fault which I did.
Get this, no spares available for this model.
The internet highlights many problems with the spring breaking on this model, so they know it's an issue.
Their customer service department takes on average 5 days to reply with patronising statements like- out of guarantee so we'll offer you 20% off a new Russell Hobbs kettle.
I refused this offer and requested a full refund as electricals in this category are required by English law to be of merchantable quality ( Consumer rights act 2015).
After 5 emails to and fro, their final offer was 30% take it or leave it. So basically it's we've had your money, now do one in other words.
This once owned British brand has unfortunately been trashed by corporate greed and wastefulness.
So to sum up.
I'll never buy or recommend a Russell Hobbs product to anyone.

Catch 22 on kettle

I bought a new Russell Hobbs kettle last week and, as instructed, filled and boiled and emptied it twice. When I inspected the inside of the kettle I saw the floor was discoloured, as if it had degraded like my old kettle. Robert Dyas would not refund me because I had used it!

Microwave does what it does

Microwave does what it does, but the glass plate that your items sit in in the microwave never quite aligns all sticks to the underlying rotating device

How the great have fallen

Bought a Russell Hobbs Glass Kettle and my wife switched it on to boil up some water to make a cup of tea and the glass cracked and boiling hot water leaked all over the worktop. The kettle was just slightly over the one year guarantee so I could not get a replacement. Russell Hobbs used to be a good reliable British brand but it just makes cheaply made , unreliable products nowadays that are manufactured in China. I could not honestly recommend them to anyone any longer as as this once great British company is reduced to selling cheaply made, poor quality products.

Warranty expires in days on new product

My toaster broke down. Popping, crackling and smelling electrical. All advice forums said unplug, do not use and get rid of.

Russell Hobbs got me to plug in again, make a video, supply the invoice (thank you Amazon) and explain again the problem.

Today I received a brand new toaster but the warranty expires in 5 days based on the old warranty for the old damaged/broken device.

That seems weird. A brand new device which would usually attract at least a one year warranty only gets the standard of the old 2 year device and it's a 2 year warranty...proper strange that I think.

I'd hope Russell Hobbs would have as much confidence in their product as I would spending money on it and provide a warranty of at least 1 year...but no.

Pity as their kettle ain't much better either. Once products are complete I may not buy from them again as they are not of good quality and Russell Hobbs do not appear to have much confidence in them either.

Buyer beware

I bought the 7lt slow cooker by Russell Hobbs from very a couple of weeks ago, however when I unpacked it from the box and put it on my work surface until I put the box away, then when I moved the appliance I noticed that it had caused scratches to my work surface which I am not at all happy about.I complained to Russell Hobbs directly and provided all the information which they asked me for,I was assured by the online chat person that my case would be escalated and I would hear back, which of course I have not.I needed to use the slow cooker so when it came time to wash the actual cooking pot , I noticed that it again had also scratched my work surface beside the sink.I had to go to the expense of buying a surface colour paint to try and disguise the scratches in both areas of my work surface. So buyer beware in addition, I would say that the entire unit from RH is very heavy so if anyone has arthritis in their hands it is a heavy item, and if buying I can only suggest that when putting on surfaces please place on a trivet.I turned the item over and there was no covers on the screws which is what obviously caused the scratches and as for the actual cooking pot it is a glazed earthenware material again very rough on the bottom which has obviously caused the additional scratches to my work top.so for all of those reasons I will only give it one star.

Bought the Brontë Kettle and Toaster

UPDATE***
Finally, Russell Hobbs gave us a prepaid label. I am satisfied with this outcome. But it was frustrating at first having to ‘fight’ to get a prepaid returns label.

Bought the Brontë Kettle and Toaster. When we took out the kettle we were shocked at how different the colour was from the images online and on the box itself. We were extremely disappointed with the quality of the products and how different they looked from the images. It looked cream on the photos online, although it states the colour as stone. But it’s got a pinky/purple tinge. Not what we expected at all. Plus the kettle handle looks shiny on the images but it a tacky, cheap looking Matt finish.
We contacted customer services to return the products. We asked for a prepaid label but we were told we’d have to return the 8kg package at our own expense. I feel this is unfair. We shouldn’t have to pay to return products that have never been used. Plus, they suggest we get signed for postage which will cost even more. The audacity.
Not a happy customer. And won’t be buying any more Russell Hobbs products and certainly won’t be recommending them based solely on their customer service and returns policy. It’s not much for a large company to cover the cost of returns for small kitchen appliances.

POOR RESPONSE TO WARRANTY REPAIRS

My issue concerns an Electric Kettle, the electrics in this failed and I was asked to send pictures of it, RH then claimed that the heat stain on the metal base was a sign that it had not been descaled, where I live in Fife Scotland our water is about as pure as it gets with no mineral deposits at all, but they claim the heat stain is a mineral deposit which it is not, even if it had been this should not affect the electrics in any way, these are quite separate from the interior of the said Kettle.

Appalling design - can't be cleaned properly.

The design of their toasted sandwich maker is appalling. After just one use, cheese / butter had clearly gone into cracks and crevices which couldn’t be cleaned. Even after disassembling half of the thing (six screws) it was still not possible to adequately clean it. So one use and it’s going in the bin.

Good customer service

My rice cooker broke down unexpectedly after light usage for over a year, after following the procedure with customer service the product was replaced. The product in itself is good and works without any other issues.

Terrible after sales service. Fobbed off and told to contact Amazon

I purchased a microwave oven via Amazon 6 months ago so it’s still within warranty. It has had very light use, mostly warming milk for coffee, part cooking jacket potatoes and heating one serving bags of ‘steam packet’ veg as well, as the odd ready meal. The appliance is always wiped out after use with a microfibre cloth and plain water or water and diluted white vinegar. Just last week I noticed that it has developed white speckles all over the interior of the oven. These won’t wipe away and can’t be felt at all so clearly they’re in the actual material used for the oven and door linings. I contacted RH, via the Amazon portal. Explained and sent photos. Initially they said it was a cleaning issue and direct me to clean it in exactly the way I have been doing already, for the last 6 months! When I pressed the matter, their technical team has declared this phenomenon ‘wear and tear’ so can’t help! Despite the warranty and clear photos of the issue. They suggested that if I was unhappy with their response I could contact Amazon. Which I did. Amazon looked at my complaint, took it seriously and have arranged a full refund and also a label and collection for the defective product. Thank you Amazon but shame on you, Russell Hobbs. Clearly you don’t care about having repeat customers. I shall never purchase anything else from this brand.
