A shambles
My car passed it's NCT at Greenhills NCT but when I got back into my car, I discovered that they damaged my push button parking brake during the test. Now I have to stop/start my engine in order to engage/disengage the parking brake. The button does not work at all.
No apology.
Just fill in this paperwork.
Ironic that an NCT center then let you head off in your car with a dodgy parking brake that they're responsible for, surely that's not safe? 🤷🏻♀️
Make sure you take pictures and videos of your car before the test because I have a feeling they will try wash their hands of any responsibility for repairs.
Outrageous Behavior at NCT centre My…
Outrageous Behavior at NCT centre My Car Was Damaged During the Test! Be careful, avoid N. Pt 1 (Ex4,M50) centre.
I had an appalling experience during a recent vehicle test at an NCT centre. The inspector took a metal bar and started striking a part of my car. As a result of this completely unacceptable action, a hole was made in the vehicle’s bodywork. He then took a photo of the damage and told the driver that the test had failed, stating that the part must be replaced.
What makes this even worse is that video recording is strictly prohibited in all NCT centres, meaning there’s no way to prove what really happened. This creates a situation where inspectors can physically damage your vehicle and then claim it was a pre-existing defect.
This practice completely undermines public trust in the NCT system. It's not just incompetence — it's a clear violation of professional conduct and common sense.A vehicle inspection should verify roadworthiness — not cause deliberate damage!

NCT centre Kells
NCT centre Kells - makes the process easy. The staff are always lovely, it’s easy to access and the waiting area in the centre itself is much improved in recent years.
Previous dodgy NCT inspections
Previous dodgy NCT inspections. E.g. once failed due to lcd fitted driving lights. Retest, no light paras change..passed. This time, service improved. " Advice" given on non critical poss issue...same bulbs as b4 failed. passed, dreadful QA standards...a joke.
Failed NCT for nothing
Went for NCT.. Failed because FRONT AXEL ALLIGNMENT is not OK.
went to do the wheels allignments where I was told they are perfect.
The car is a 2017 Mercedes Benz that always serviced on time in MSL Cork!!
Bunch of theifs!!
Car Damaged by NCT advisor in Kilkenny
Had my car in for nct and the guy who did damaged the front wing on my car. I'm two weeks out since it was damaged and there telling me they will only pay for damage, and they won't pay for the day I'll be without the car while it's been repaired or they won't pay for a loan car or loss of wages for the day. Accidents can happen, but why should I be out of pocket for something they did to my car.
NCT Tralee Co. Kerry Scam
Just visited NCT center in Tralee Co. Kerry with a 2021 VW ID.3 fully serviced by dealer and NCT for the first time. Failed me for one dim headlight and they claim that they can’t find the VIN number on my cars chassis citing the one on the windscreen doesn’t count. They are a scam as we had previous similar issues with them. Disgrace and should be strictly regulated in such malpractice.
Nct enniscorthy, a joke
Absolute joke of a place. Only 2 people working and loads of people standing in a line waiting like idiots for over 20 minutes. Nobody even came out to say what the delay was. They must think people have nothing else to do only stand there half the day

Brought the car for test morning in donegal town staff and testers were great very welcoming and great personality's made it pleasant experience deserve a pay rise
Will not take my car there anymore
Skibbereen NCT centre. This time my car was failed for the dipped beam lights being too high, they were legally lifted a bit by rolling the button on the dashboard 2 clicks, like what any car's headlights is capable of doing.. So, could they not just turn the button to lower the level of the lights when testing the car?? No, they would rather see it as a fault and fail the car and have you pay again to have it retested. Are they really all competent and qualified mechanics testing our vehicles?

My car Windscreen Wipers and Washers were 💯 % working, but NCT staff member failed my car NCT, write down on the report that Wipers are not working. This is the ability and honesty of NCT green hill.
Brake check?
This report concerns an NCT incident which happened three years ago, which is against your guidelines, but please bear with me.
Back in 2021, my car received a Pass Cert, but the inspector informed me that "the brakes only barely passed the minimum performance required, you must get them seen to immediately."
Strange, thought I, I hadn't noticed any deterioration, but it is possible to get used to slowly deteriorating brakes, so I went straight to a mechanic friend for a second opinion, and we did some emergency stops, all to our complete satisfaction. Nevertheless, I decided to take off all the drums and calipers (I'm a mechanic myself) just to make sure. Everything -- shoes, wheel cylinders, adjusters, drums, calipers, pads, discs, master cylinder, fluid (yes, I take no chances with brakes!) -- was checked, and in perfect working order. All components were reassembled.
The car has just passed its third NCT since with absolutely nothing whatsoever done to the brakes in the meantime, and every time, no mention of any braking problem. So, what was the original tester talking about? That incorrect diagnosis could have cost me a couple of hundred euro for unnecessary stripdown and reassembly if I hadn't been able to do it myself.
Which begs the question -- who, exactly, tests the NCT testers?
Carlow NCT, 16.10., 17:55-18:30, unbelievable
I had a NCT appointment today at 17:55.
I came with my son who is nearly three years of age.
At reception an employee from Philippines took care of me. He had a poor English, so this was the first major thing that I've noticed. I believe that there should be a minimum level of conversational English in order to do the job properly at NCT on any car, because you also need to communicate with the customers. Or am I wrong? I am a foreigner myself, and this is completely unacceptable.
So the guy took keys and car went in. After about 20 minutes, a guy comes into the waiting room and demand me to come into the garage. I carried my son on my left arm and went into the garage where they test the cars. I'd say that this is unacceptable too. Not only a minor went into a garage but me too, without any ppe whatsoever. A very poor safety protocols. Or am I wrong?
We went in and the guy told me "I can't start your car". I saw a steering wheel is completely locked, tyres go to the right, pointing to the right. I sat into the car with my son, and tried to start the car. I couldn't. Steering wheel completely blocked, jammed. So I asked him, "how did you do that, explain me how did you broke the car?"
I drive this car everyday for the last year since I bought it. I work 5 days a week. I never had this problem or anything similar. I drove from my house after work to the nct test centre and I had NO PROBLEMS.
That guy broke up my car, I would say he was too hard on the key, so the key teeth broke and it was unable to unlock the steering wheel and start the car.
After 5 minutes of trying, all employes come and look at me and my son, stress was high, then they decided to push the car out. Few employees started pushing car, car was moving to the right but somehow managed to stop outside. Also, right before they started pushing car, team leader was aggressive towards employee who was testing my car. He pushed him and yelled at him. This is highly unacceptable in any workplace. This assault happened around 18:15-18:25. I am sure 100% that this is on camera. I am going to report all of this.
At the end, they left me with half broken car, outside nct test centre, with jammed steering wheel, car parked completely off on the side of the parking lot, on drivers side opened window, me and my son were thrown out like garbage, unable to start the car, they handed me failed certificate and they left. Outside was around 14 Celsius, my son was cold.
Is this normal and acceptable? You tell me. Send me an email or give me a call, and explain, NCT management.
Unfortunately I have lost my mind and started yelling. This was immature and I apologized afterwards. I would not do that again. I am just a human, a father, and that day-a very stressed out individual (after a hard day at work, too).
Due to water damage
Due to water damage, they could not verify my student bus pass and will not reimburse the £30 odd pound I had to spend during the week getting the two buses to uni and work because they messed up.
Fonthill
Fonthill. Asian lady behind the counter was so rude when I told her there was a car with no disabled badge in the disabled space. She told me it was a staff car, got stroppy when I said they had no business parking there, said there were two spaces down the end of the lot that a disabled driver could park in even had the gaul to ask me what my problem was! Possibly the rudest person I've ever encountered in a customer service role. Oh and the lift that was out of service last year is still not fixed so I couldn't go upstairs to wait.she had no consideration for disabled drivers, instead of showing empathy she chose to be argumentative didn't think there was anything at all wrong with a staff car taking one of only two disabled spaces. Disgraceful attitude I had to walk outside I was so angry
