taking moneyfrom my account with no subscription
I just realised they have been taking money from my account for months. I subscribed once in November and cancelled it straight away. When I log on to the site it gives me the option to subscribe. I have no subscription yet they have taken money from me consistently. I am now dealing with the support but I don't hold out much hope after reading the comments here

Charging card without providing any service
Tried to purchase a gift subscription - the payment system had some kind of issue and never went through to the confirmation page. I tried multiple times, only to find out I was charged four times… $400 for 0 service. Customer service took 3 days to reply, and is still asking for my card information. It’s been almost a week…
Edit 2 weeks later: I managed to get refunded after a number of emails. Tried again, and again have been charged without actually getting an account activated. I guess I will just go for something else!
This company pushing my limits
I like to think that I'm usually nice. But this time, this company has been pushing my limits. I've canceled MUBI around late 2021 or early 2022. I've canceled my subscription as well as cancel my account. I realized that I had too many subscriptions going on and decided to cancel.
They have been CHARGING MY CREDIT CARD despite me canceling everything. If you want to use another subscription service that isn't as shady as MUBI and has an great array of classics, I'd highly suggest getting an subscription through the Criterion Channel or I'd get an VPN. Don't use this service.
Uninspired recent changes
MUBI is a streaming service that allowed me to find many, many hidden gems I wouldn't have discovered otherwise.
However, recently they made some changes that really don't improve the experience. 1 - you can't comment anymore to reviews other users left. And apparently they deleted the conversations that were already there... why?? How does this help in any way !?? Looks like you don't want your users to exchange ideas or what?
And 2: when you search for a movie, they excluded from the results the movies which are not available to stream. So if you're looking for the page of a specific movie, it won't appear in the search results unless that movie is available to stream on MUBI (and they only have a few movies available compared to the full extent of their library). Again...why? It only makes discovering new titles harder.
MUBI is the best for films!!
MUBI is so good. Huge variety of independent films. Never had any issues with it.
The very best movie streaming service…
The very best movie streaming service for the arthouse and art cinema enthusiasts. Super inpiring, carefully curated selection! Streaming quality is somehow unstable for me, despite my fibre connexion, though, but I can live with it.
MUBI is very hard to navigate
MUBI is very hard to navigate. They don't cancel your subs when asked to. And take your money when patently you are not downloading any films
I have emailed MUBI so many times to cancel my subscription - yet they still take my money.
On top of that whilst they may have great films the search to find any is so hard. I would not recommend them any time soon
I have been charged for over a year…
I have been charged for over a year after having cancelled my subscription and there is no way to log in once I deactivated my account.. Appalling service
I am absolutely in love with the movie…
I am absolutely in love with the movie selection, such a gem after Amazon and Netflix. Have some troubles downloading movies though sometimes
Crappy mediocre films and scam payments.
Crappy mediocre films that are still on there for over a year...I suspended my subscription during the summer because there was nothing I wanted to watch and they then sneakily took another years subscripion, with a 50% price hike, 3 months prematurely, without notice...I one year I watched 6 films, none of which were very interesting.
irredeemably commercial
A platform that went from bad to worse by first building content through free contribution from users and then stripping the site of all the social features that attracted users in the first place. Simply cash-oriented startup with a mediocre film offer and big claims about promoting avantgarde and up and coming new auteurs.
Does not live up to what they sell
I didn’t have the frequently mentioned subscribtion issues, but my overall experience has been… uninspiring. Their interface is buggy and laggy, their marketing team is doing a pathetic job, but the saddest part is that the film selection is actually questionable. I first got tricked into a paid subscribtion by thinking that In The Mood For Love was available on MUBI when in reality it was just one of those weird pages they have with short movie descriptions but not the actual film. After deciding to stick around I found myself returning to it less and less just because most of the more niche films I watched on MUBI were of little overall impact on me or most others I talked to about them (when the eloquent description makes you think it’s a real masterpiece). Might come back at some point if they stop sending me tacky promotional emails, because sadly there aren’t too many alternatives. Their podcast is amazing though, whoever is responsible for that should run the company.
Dishonest and Devious Subscription Automation
Same thing happened to me with all the negative reviews, I'm apparently subscribed annually from Malaysia without any notification or reminders. The price hike came to almost 5 times higher (from RM50 to RM288). While I don't mind this and WAS a great fan of this company – I did not receive any email notification nor any information about my subscription. I signed up for a free trial on 5th Nov 2021 and I know I cancelled it but no way to prove I did so. Also the fact they charge you 5 days early. It's incredibly deceptive. I want my refund now.
Annual subscription taken 10 days before end of offer
I set a reminder to cancel my subscription after the £1 per month offer expired. 10 working days before the offer was about to expire I’ve had an annual subscription amount (£71.88) removed from my account. No email warning and certainly in advance of any deadline for me cancelling/ making a commitment. For a company that provides a wonderful platform for art house cinema, you would expect much more integrity. I spotted it while the amount was still pending and website has no platform to challenge this that I could see. I cancelled the subscription (while still at £1
And within the dates of the offer), yet the money has been removed. Awful. I hope someone from MUBI reads this and I can be refunded.
customer service is useless
customer service is useless. Nobody knows anything, don't waste your time and money.
Scam
Scam. Charging me monthly through payment card linked to my Playstation-account. All I did was download the MUBI-app, which is free. Never received any receipt documenting the purchase of any subscription. And I can't login to MUBI with my "subscription" e-mail, since apparently I don't have an active account, only an active subscription. Doesn't make much sense
I cancelled my subcription and still got charged
I cancelled my subcription months ago and still got charged today for a full year, without any notice. Not nice of them. Not nice at all.
Avoid this company!
I have had a similar experience to others below, and an unexpected £95.88 taken from my account. I joined in 2013, the sub increased from £23 per year up to £95.88 last week. Avoid this company.
Charged for a account never activated
I have been incorrectly charged for an account I never activated over a year ago and am now unable to cancel because this is not an active account. I have never used MUBI and am owed 150 euro for an account I have not used.
