Nice selection of films, obfuscation when redeeming codes
Nice selection of films, quite an artistic platform. Ypu probably won’t find the latest hi-octane Hollywood slop here but you will find thoughtful cinema.
I just wanted to post a review to say that redeeming a code from my Samsung TV was not straightforward.
On the offers section of my Samsung TV it had a code for 70% for 6 months. In itself this is a great deal but every road seemingly leads to a 7 day free trial.
The Google A.I suggested to sign up for the free trial and then to rapidly enter the code in settings. I didn’t feel like doing this as it felt like it would most likely go wrong.
I combed the site and googled multiple questions, even read old Facebook and Reddit posts.
In the end I had the idea to just google ‘MUBI redeem code’ , sure enough an actual page on the MUBI website for redeeming codes! It’s there but gosh is it well hidden.
I don’t know why they don’t have a ‘redeem code’ option on their subscription page or a deals page or something. The cinic in me says that this is part of the predatory business tactic of getting people to sign up for short free trials in the hope they will forget.
Would like to give more stars but wasted a decent amount of my time on this today just tryi;g to get my code working, should have been straightforward but it was anything but, 3 stars are warranted here.
Enjoy but be careful.
I went for the 3months for £1 trial subscription and started watching. I had an issue initially as checking my bank statement Mubi had charged me the initial £1 but also an extra £7 I contacted Customer Service querying this and they stated I had chosen Mubi Go as an add on. I had managed to do this by mistake, had no notification of this and if I hadn’t checked my statement would never have known. My email was replied to quickly and Mubi explained what I had done. I emailed back and explained I had done this by mistake and could I have a refund. Again a quick reply stating the refund of the £7 had been processed. So in my experience the customer service so far has been excellent. A shout out to Mubi team member, Lance who sorted my issue quickly and effectively.
The playback quality I have found 2 weeks into the trial to be great. As to content The film selection is initially disappointing once you realise that you have to switch to ‘Now Showing’ to watch what’s available. But I have seen some excellent and enjoyable films I probably wouldn’t have thought of looked at. I really enjoyed Martin Rejtman’s ‘The Practice’ and will certainly watch the rest of his available films on the site. I watched Jim Jarman’s ‘Patterson’ last night and Thouroughly enjoyed it.
The trial subscription is fantastic value and I look forward to watching some great films. I have to say though, I’m a little worried about when it comes time to cancel…so I may review again at the end of the trial. Also I wish Mubi would comment on some reviews. Their star score is very poor and it would be good to see them addressing some of the issues that seem to be coming up time and again in many of the 1 star reviews. To conclude… I would say enjoy. There is some fantastic content, but be careful and check you are paying what you think you are.
Disappointed by the small catalogue of movies
I joined MUBI today because they had a special introductory offer. After submitting my bank details so they could withdraw my first payment, I started browsing their database. OMG so many good movies....I thought....but whenever I clicked on a movie (old ones, more recent ones, well-known ones, obscure once...) I almost every time got the message "[title of movie] s not available to watch. Instead, check out Akira Kurosawa's Yojimbo, which is currently showing on MUBI".
You can understand my disappointment. What is the point of having a huge database if you only offer a handful of movies?
Yes I was fooled
Yes I was fooled, yes I subscribed thinking there was a huge catalogue to watch. Turns out about 90% of their titles aren't even available to watch. What is the point of this streaming site?
Films are great, app functionality rather poor
I absolutely love the type of films on MUBI but I have to say that the app is quite poor, and over the years of being an on and off subscriber it hasn’t improved very much at all. The search function and download functions are pretty bad, I have just tried again to download a film to watch on my flight and no matter what I do, it just won’t work. It’s a shame really as the films are great. I think it would be valuable for them to update and invest in dev and user experience.
Best stremaing service
Streaming service with the best selection of films. They really focus on quality instead of cheap entertainment.
Family member with dementia had been…
Family member with dementia had been paying subscription for years without using service. Very unpleasant attitude from customer service and no clear policy. Plus dig a bit deeper - articles linking MUBI to investment firms and Israeli military. AVOID.
I took the black friday discount offer…
I took the black friday discount offer for 60€ per year....on the site directly they send you to payment....I payed....no confirmation follows....no films possible...the customer service is un clear....I find this company un reliable and do not want to do any more deal with them.
Continued to charge after I cancelled…

very bad customer service
very bad customer service. during my trial period I got constant errors. Tried to contact them several times but never got a reaction. Seems they don't want my money. Mubi : never again
Discovered it is not okay within 5 minutes.
When you want to cancel the 7 days trial, MUBI provides you an option to extend the trial to 30 days. (Very nice if you like to enjoy MUBI for free for a longer period of time.)
Even 30 days trial does not serve me. You share a huge amount of titles on this platform, but when you filter on available films, only 2 of the hundreds of movies you are interested in, pop up! This is ridiculous! Hahahaha. Just show what is available directly, not what is NOT! And when it is on your platform, just tell WHEN it WILL BE available.
A Terrible App
A terrible app. How many times does a subscriber have to unplug and plug back in the TV before you might have an opportunity to watch a movie? Constant buffering or lagging. Awful quality. Don't fall for the discounted annual subscription price--you won't be able to view the films.
Lackluster
This site pulls you in with a ton of films available BUT when you actually subscribe, it turns out that all the films you think are on the platform aren't.
One of the few films that I wanted to watch, and was available (Paris, Texas) stopped in the middle of my screening, and was PULLED OF THE SITE WHILE I WAS WATCHING IT. I would expect that for the price of 8 euros a month, I can at least finish the films I'm watching, but alas.
Excellent Customer Support
Earlier this year, I was offered a complimentary 90-day subscription by MUBI. While I’ve noticed a significant improvement in the content compared to last year, I chose not to continue with a paid subscription as I rarely find time to watch movies. I attempted to cancel the free trial through the MUBI settings but couldn’t locate the option as described on their FAQs. As a result, I reached out to their customer support and was promptly informed that, since I was on a free trial, I would not be automatically charged once it ended. In this regard, I truly appreciate MUBI’s excellent customer support. Also, their selection of classic films is a good one especially if, unlike me, you have the time to enjoy them.
Image quality is so low
Image quality is so low, i couldn't watch the movie. Even when nothing complicated is going on, they cannot handle things like a woman with a white shirt, in a white room.
Mubi Notebook 2.5 months to arrive, little support…
This is about Mubi's Notebook magazine specifically. I was told my issue 7 would be delivered some time shortly after the 30th June. I waited until 17 July to to get in touch to complain that I hadn't received it. I won't bore anyone with the details but I've only just received it today, 13 September, just shy of two-and-a-half months later. The process of getting it has been long and fraught with much wasted time and many emails, with typically a week to 10 days for emails to be responded to and no way of getting in touch by phone. At one point there were suggestions that somehow my address was the problem (I live in a city on a ground floor house on a quiet street and there was no problem with previous issues being delivered - what cured that idea was sending them a picture of the containing envelope from a previous issue easily fitting in my letterbox). Particularly upsetting was when one person at Mubi support just simply stopped answering my emails, which were always courteous, and I had to begin the whole proces again filling in a form on the website.
I'm glad I have my issue 7 now, but do not wish to go through the same process ever again so I've cancelled my subscription. Uploading my experience in case anyone else is thinking of subscribing! (and yeah I'm not happy about what I went through so I'm venting also... ). Anyway, I have the issue now, and I'm happy the saga is over, but never again!
Before subscribing
Before subscribing, i went to their site to browse through movies that they have on this platform. Not one of the great/classic film´s shown on their site were actually available to watch after subscription. Just some shitty foreign movies that i have zero interest in. It ruined my whole day and i never been so disappointed on a service like this before. Wish i could give zero stars.
Terrible company with terrible customer…
Terrible company with terrible customer service. I explained in detail with screenshots showing that the membership page explains two separate types of membership options and both contain 7 day free trials. When you choose “start membership” it tells you there’s a promotion happening for $4.50 a month for 6 months. There is NO OPTION to opt out of the promotion. Which leads people to believe they receive the 7 day trial and after that, they’ll be charged $4.50 a month for 6 months. If you exit out, it sends you back to the membership page I originally mentioned so you HAVE to redeem offer. Customer service said I would have to wait until the promotion ended entirely to join the regular membership that includes a free trial. It’s not about the $4.50. It’s about the terrible streaming selection and the false advertising on their website that forces you into a membership that you don’t want.
One day of use and a life time of regret
I cancelled after one day of disappointing use. The service is not great for Macs, PC's or androids. A month later I was charged. I logged back in to the website. I had to reset my password to do so. I cancelled again. I then contacted "customer support." I then got a condescending email claiming that my second cancellation was the first. Be ready to file a credit dispute if you use this website.
Mubi support doesn’t support
Mubi support doesn’t support, it even push you away from the platform.
Are they working for competition?
Probably.
Disappointing, after many years as loyal customer.
