We had an incredible weekend hiking in the Welsh mountains and fishing in the Atlantic, our third trip with Max as our guide, and he never disappoints. Max provides a truly full-service experience: he sets up the camp tents, takes care of all the practical details, and guides you through some of the most beautiful and remote natural spots. His care and attention to detail make every trip feel effortless.

Max is fantastic with groups, whether it's a bunch of friends, a family outing, or a mix of adults and children. He's patient, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about the outdoors. Whether you're new to camping, climbing, or hiking, or you're a seasoned adventurer, he's the perfect person to go with.

I can't recommend Max highly enough and am already looking forward to our next adventure with him.

My recent hiking adventure in the Swiss Alps, Black Forest, and Vosges was nothing short of spectacular, and much of the credit goes to our knowledgeable and friendly guide Max.

It was a full week packed every day with adventure. Whether we swam in the lakes, star gazed at night, sat till the evening to the backdrop of the lakes and the mountains for the sunset, museums we visited, to the campfire we lit. Each of these destination and experiences offered its own unique charm and emotion.

Our journey began in the Vosges, where the rolling hills and picturesque landscapes provided a perfect contrast to the towering Alps and dense Black Forest. The Vosges offered a more relaxed pace, with gentle ascents leading to stunning panoramic views of the valleys below. Max tailored the hike to match the group’s energy levels, ensuring that we could fully appreciate the natural beauty without feeling rushed. His insights into the region’s history added depth to the experience and left us with a profound appreciation for the Vosges.

Next, we ventured into the Black Forest, where the dense woodlands and charming villages felt like stepping into a fairy tale. Max enthusiasm for the region was contagious, as he pointed out hidden gems. The stories combined with the serene beauty of the surroundings, created an enchanting atmosphere that was both peaceful and invigorating. Max attention to detail and knowledge of the best viewpoints made the hike through the Black Forest truly magical.

Our final destination was the Swiss Alps, where the stunning scenery was beyond anything I had imagined. The majestic peaks, glistening glaciers, and verdant meadows created a surreal backdrop for our hike. The trail was carefully selected to showcase the most breathtaking views, and Max ensured that we navigated the challenging terrain safely and comfortably. We stayed in Bächli hut that was surrounded by magnificent mountain scenery.

What made this tour truly memorable was the personalized attention we received. Max was eager to answer all our questions, whether about the flora and fauna we encountered or the best local spots.

Throughout the entire journey, Max was exceptional. His expertise in each region was evident, and he went above and beyond to ensure that everyone in the group felt comfortable and engaged. Whether it was adjusting the pace, offering tips on hiking techniques, or sharing a local delicacy during a rest break, Max personal touch made the trip feel special. His ability to create a sense of camaraderie among the group added to the enjoyment, making the hikes not only physically rewarding but also socially enriching. I went on the Heart of Europe trip with Max after recommendation from others who had done the same trip the previous year. I was told it was an experience of a life time. The trip exceeded all my expectations and Max was the ultimate host and tour guide. We hiked 2400m into the Swiss Alps, witnessed amazing views/sunsets/sunrises, swam in rivers and in the French Vosges lakes, had encounters with grazing cows, star gazed, did beautiful evening walks in the German Black Forest and I won’t forget the ice cream treats to top it off!

This was my 11 year olds first trip without his parents. I was extremely anxious in sending him. I knew he would find it difficult as he is on the autistic spectrum and has social anxiety. Both him and his brother thoroughly enjoyed the trip and although my 11 year old had some difficult moments he was supported by ‘uncle max’ and his brother. He told me as soon as he got in that he wanted to go again and that he had made 5 friends. My son who struggles with making friends felt extremely comfortable in the company of the children and under the guidance of Max. He was able to try things he doesn’t get to do. This has increased his confidence and we are extremely grateful. I would wholeheartedly recommend mellow journeys. I will definitely book the camping again. A heartfelt thank you for taking care of my children and introducing them to so many new and wonderful experiences.

Max conducts the most amazing journeys to nature for all ages. I’ve been sending my children for years and they’ve discovered the amazing British countryside, hills and coast.

I also went with him to the ‘Heart of Europe’ trip for one week, which was incredible with breathtaking mountain and hill trekking.

I cannot recommend Max and Mellow Journeys enough for the entire family and for getting nature back into our lives.

No doubts one of the reasons which makes me continuously comeback on the HoE trip is the amazing views of all the places we go and the various challenges that we have to complete throughout the week that makes me feel like I have achieved something but this is only partly because the welcoming nature of max and his family is the real reason why I have come back for a third time

The memory of this trip will be one to treasure for life.

My boys aged 16 and 12 embarked on the Heart of Europe tour with Max, whom we have known for many years through activities they have taken part in with Mellow Journeys. It’s was the experience of a lifetime and they enjoyed every moment of it- including the dive into a lake! The stunning views, being out in the fresh air, experiencing the changing weather and the joy of being caught off guard were all part being one with nature! The children were hosted with Max’s family who were fabulous hosts and even sneaked in a live performance of a harp :) Unforgettable memories for them to treasure into their adulthood. Max is a trustworthy person and a very experienced guide.

We drove through and visited France, Germany, Switzerland. The scenery was unbelievably beautiful, from all the different mountain ranges we saw and trekked. The Vosges in France, the Black Forest in Germany and the Swiss Alps. We also visited Frieburg and Lucerne it was an amazing trip, and I highly recommend it!

It was our sons first trip without parents and generally he’s not too keen on outdoor activities but he thoroughly enjoyed the adventure with Mellow Journeys. Max is a very good & considerate guide and the fact the accommodation was based at his family homes gave us additional assurance of his safety & well-being.

One of the best soul searching, adventure holidays I have had the pleasure to experience and participate in. The entire journey was extremely smooth, extremely well organised, with breathtaking natural environments including swimming in natural and clear rivers, walks in forests, hikes in the breathtaking mountains coupled with second to none hospitality and lovely variety of local foods.

One of the best holiday experiences of my life (and I have travelled to many countries with various companies). Max, our guide, was meticulous with his planning, friendly, approachable, knowledgeable and very hard working. His planning made the entire journey safe, smooth and entertaining. For the experiences I had, it was extremely good value for money, including, walking in the Swiss Alps, swimming in glacial water and lakes, forest walking and general sightseeing. Absolutely fantastic. The communication has been great, before, during and after the trip. I would highly recommend this company and the staff who support it.
