received my forge today. great little product. shipping needs a bit of improvement or some help in the shop. overall good experience. happy with my purchase. will possibly purchase from them again. now to make my tongs and get to smithing

I have made two forge purchases from Mathewson Metals and both of my buying experiences have been great. The second purchase was prompted because of the high quality product that I initially purchased.

I ordered this as a gift and was impressed by the email response time. But getting the item shipped has been disappointing. Order sat for a week and missed his birthday. Followed up twice and was told it was shipping. Three days after that I got a notice from PayPal the shipping label was done. It’s been over 7 days and no response. If your in a hurry, you may want to be diligent with them.

Im very impressed and satisfied with my purchase. It was delivered sooner then expected and packaging was great. I will highly recommend your business to all my friends and associates.

I purchased the Mathewson Metal Smith Forge. This forge is robust, with extensive detail and craftsmanship. The built in tool rest is easily movable to either end of the forge. The burner is easy to adjust with a simple wing nut and sleeve. The regulator was also included in the purchase price and has a 0 to 30 lbs setting.
Following the instructions, I fired the forge for 10 minutes and let it naturally cool to cure the refractory. Since then I have ran this forge for almost 7 constant hours on a single 20 lb. propane tank! It is very fuel efficient compared to other forges I have been around and had the opportunity to use. This forge was up to temp in an easy 10 minute time, maybe sooner but I honestly did not time it. Once up to temp, I adjusted the regulator down and was forging 3/8 to 1/2" steel with no trouble what so ever.
If you are considering this forge, do yourself a favor and pull the trigger, you will not regret it.

One thing that did concern me was the legs on the forge itself. They were splayed out a bit so that the mounting holes were not flat to a table top. As well, the front legs were splayed out at a different angle then the back legs, causing a slight rock to the forge as it sat on the table top. Not enough to be anywhere close to a safety hazard, just annoying. Really easy fix just a propane torch and a hammer to bend them straight, but it was a thing I had to do that detracted from the feel of a finish product.

However! It does exactly as advertised, got hot fast and heated my metal fast, so it absolutely cleared the operational requirement of a forge.

10/10 would buy again.

He also apologized for supplier issues, and when I received the unit some firebrick were damaged. They were very fair about the whole process! I would buy from them again in a heartbeat!!

It took a while to get the forge but it works well. It's helpful to view the youtube videos on operating the forge. I did modify it so that firebricks could be held in position at the front and back rather than stacking them on the table.
