Mixed experience

This is a mixed review as I had a mixed experience. The website and ordering process was streamlined and easy to use. I arrived at the location before my friends who were stuck at the airport because of a missing bike. As far as I can tell it is a family business with a British guy who runs it with his son and daughter and local mechanics.

When I arrived at the shop it was the father at the desk, who was helpful and even stored my luggage whilst I explored the town until my friends arrived.

The shop is well stocked with energy bars, gels, tyres, tubes etc everything you might need and the bikes are good and well maintained by the local mechanics.

When we collected the bikes the father wasn’t around but the daughter processed the paperwork and the son was also present. The daughter seemed fine but the son was instantly pretty grumpy - no smile, no chat at all, and no please and thank you when asking for IDs, just missing all the basics of customer service. It got worse when two of my friends asked him questions about the bikes - they just got dismissive, useless replies about the technical stuff. We just ignored it anyway and left, far too excited about the trip to let that get in the way.

We had a great three days riding, mostly on the mountains but on the last day of the quieter roads leading down to Alcúdia and back up to Port De Pollenca. On the first day there was a heavy downpour which meant some of the smaller roads by farmland were still muddy as we found out on the last day.

We returned the bikes on the last day after this ride and they were muddy from the smaller roads but we got a surprising reaction from the son. Once he saw the bikes were dirty he got angry - shouting that we’d been off-roading, and when I explained the muddy roads he insisted I was lying, even though I showed him a photo of my friend riding through the muddy bit on the road. He then said it would take him hours to clean the bikes and insisted we pay €40 extra cleaning fee! I’d hired bikes two weeks before in the French Alps and when I returned them they were dropped straight round the back to the cleaning station with no issue - so I thought the same applied with all bike hires. Difficult to clean bikes off when you are in a holiday apartment.

Whether or not we should have cleaned bikes before returning them I think his behaviour was inappropriate and rude - especially calling us liars. As we walked out the shop he shouted ‘pathetic!’ after us and ‘thanks for trashing the bikes’ - very over the top for a bit of mud!

So in summary the store is good, the bikes were fine with good service by the mechanic and owner but the son shouldn’t be public facing - should either be in a behind the scenes role or doing something else. We rented nearly £1000 worth of bikes and would have gone back next year but won’t be again.

Disappointing customer service and attention to detail

We changed our order after we made the initial booking and Mallorca Bike Hire confirmed the change to the bikes and delivery date by email. We would now have 4 x bikes arriving on the morning of the 14th April.
I received a call at 08:30 on the 14th to advise the bikes would be with me at approx 3pm. I advised they were booked for as early as possible am. Was advised that was incorrect. Advised MBH i only needed two bikes today but was advised none are available.
Checked emails and forwarded MBH their email confirming they agreed to an AM delivery of 4 x bikes. They said it was a problem with the booking system and reaffirmed there would be no bikes until the bikes on hire were returned and turned around.
We did not want to waste a day of our cycling holiday, so hired 2 x bikes from another operator ( Pinerello Experience, who were excellent).

We did receive a refund (£110) but this did not match either how much we spent on the alternative bikes (140 euro) or the costs of 1 days bike hire for 4 x bikes (£142). The mix up cost us a lot of hassle, lost time and some money. The time and hassle cannot be replaced, so we just have to roll with that, as errors occur. But to not own your error and compensate appropriately is really poor customer service. Overall the bikes were ok though. Just one small issue with the break / gear cover but the poor customer experience is disappointing. We wont be back

Problem on day 1 but refund issued

**Updated score as the company has since refunded the affected days hire. Things do go wrong but I
believe it is how companies put things right that is important and this has now been done thank you. Hired bikes for 3 days having used this company previously. I hired an E bike with an extender battery as we wanted to do some big hills and i am not as fit as my husband. When we picked the bikes up there was a problem with mine and it was switched for another. The battery had almost run out on mine after 5 miles and I suspect it had not been charged although they said this was not possible. I appreciate these things happen but this spoilt our first day as we hardly rode as planned. When I mentioned this on return the guy seemed uninterested and said he would tell his boss and see if anything could be done by way of a part refund. I have given the company 10 days yet but not even received an e mail apology. Poor customer service - check your bikes are charged before you set off on a big ride to avoid disappointment.

Mallorcabikehire.com are a rip off company that i would not recommend

I booked a holiday with lovevelo to mallorca. The holiday included 4 days hire of an ebike. We arrived at 9am. The bike arrived at 5pm. Apparently lovevelo forgot to order the bike. No worries The bike arrived at 5pm. I assumed that would mean that I had use of the bike till 5pm 4 days later. Lovevelo ordered the ebike from mallorca bike hire at 3pm on the 1st day. 3 days later, they called me when I was half way up a mountain to say that unless I returned the bike by 4pm that day, they would charge for an extra day's bike hire. I explained to them that lovevrlo had paid for 4 days bike hire and I was only on day 3. They said that bike hires run from 9am to 5pm so even though my bike was only ordered at 3pm on the 1st day and supplied at 5pm, that counts as 1 day hire.
