I self-published on KDP back in 2012. I published 7 books, 4 were humor focused poems and comics. Around 2018ish I gave up on writing for awhile and kind of forgot about the site. Then at 1 AM C... See more

It's a pity the customer service is so low quality.
Amazon KDP is a good portal for new writers. It's a pity the customer service is so low quality. Miles away from Amazon ecommerce customer service. With one book i had to file 12-13 complains (1.5 months extra time to publish) because it was systematically rejected. Actually it was correctly designed, it was my second book.
Now I am dealing with another complaint I filed for my seventh book, but instead of fixing my complain they delisted it (as punishment?) with false arguments (again the book was within their guidelines). No need to make me waste so much time, just because customer service just act as robots. I would rather be selling books and making money for me and for them.

Just received the first copy of my book..Parenting Guidelines. After being told that proof-reading of my manuscript would be part of my publishing investment, I found that my proof -reading process was not implemented. Not only will this be a negative on my professionalism but the lack of professionalism will be heavy on Amazon KDP. Spoke to an Amazon representative who told me that proof reading was not part of the deal..After agreeing to book size of 6x9 cover. the book is actually 8.5x11 in. Such as agitating matter with Amazon kdp. Can I possibly get some assistance in correcting my publication???..AWAITING YOUR REPLY...Johnny Medrano..
Great company
This company delivered what they promised. I’ve had dealings with other publishers before and had my work published by them but this was my first self publishing venture. I did it to raise funds for a charity. From beginning to end, I was well informed, they produced a great cover based on my painting, it was well edited and throughout I was in touch with Helen who was fantastic and so helpful. Very impressed by this company.
Impossible to deal with, run by robots
A ridiculous company run by robots who send out generic email responses to every query.
I wasted over two months trying to publish a number of low content books which were stuck in review and kept getting rejected with no explanation.
When I emailed asking for some guidance to what I could do to get them approved, instead of help I got the same generic auto response every time which never actually pointed to any specific issue.
The turnaround times are a sham also, it says 72 hours review process for self published paperbacks yet I was waiting over two weeks with items in review for them to get sent back to draft with no explanation or just a generic email which didn’t help at all. So waiting, waiting and waiting then nothing but frustration and being kept in the dark.
Out of the blue this week they terminated my account saying that I had breached their Ts & Cs.
When I emailed asking what the violation was specifically, yet another generic email saying they had terminated my account and asking me to refer to the Ts & Cs.
I read the terms and could not identify anything I had done wrong, and they were unable to provide me a reason. When I went back to them a second time I got yet another generic email response saying they had terminated my account and I would never be able to set up another account on Amazon KDP.
At the bottom of every email response was an Asian name but I felt it was a fake name as the email was clearly a system generated one.
Very bizarre that it seems they don’t have human beings monitoring and responding on their customer service emails. Therefore queries never get resolved, things don’t get published and authors feel like banging their head against the wall.
On reading all their other 1 star reviews I see I am just one of many poor souls who has suffered this same nature of frustration and despair at the hands of Amazon KDP.
This is the most appalling, frustrating and unprofessional company to try and self-publish with. Their behaviour has been really bad for my mental health.
Don’t waste your time and save your sanity. Look at the alternatives, Lulu, Barnes and Noble for example.
The worst company I have dealt with on…
The worst company I have dealt with on any level! I published a book years ago but I asked them to remove it. Many years later, I discovered my request was not complete. During these 6 years, I changed my email address also. Because of this, I no longer have access to my book’s account. More importantly, they keep sending me around in circles as they still have not deleted my book on their system entirely. What is worse, is that they don’t have secondary security measures. For example, my mobile number is the same as then. Whenever I called and spoke to large organisations, I always sensed that I was speaking to professionals. Not here. Their emails see like they are written via AI! If I could give a zero score; I would! Don’t make the mistake and publish with Amazon KDP. You are likely to regret it. Hope this helps others be less distressed than I have been. My issue remains unresolved.
Cheaters and liars toe company line
I ordered 4 or 5 proofs as I prepped my third book for punlishing with kdp. After the second one, all photos in the book printed as expected. When I finally published, I ordered 30 author copies. When I received them, 8 were unuseable, as the contrast on all photos was way to dark and muddy. A look at the print date and location at the back of the books showed that not only were these 30 books printed at a different location than the proofs, but the 8 crappy books were printed on a different day than the rest. Three weeks into their "investigation," I asked what was taking so long, and very shortly afterward was told that there was "no error" and 8 books would not be reprinted. I asked further why, when the issue was clear, and was then told it was my fault for poorly done files, despite the fact that 22 books plus 4 proofs all printed as expected. Many emails and escalations later, they maintain that the crappy books were "within acceptable variance." I am pulling my four books and movie from Amazon.
Used to be good now appalling and ignorant
They used to be responsive but I've sent numerous emails for the last two weeks and nada. Ive been with them for 12 years and never had this treatment. I've got chronic health conditions and this is just making it worse. They've really gone down the pan and ignoring emails time and again indicates they must have something to hide, aren't transparent, are remote and unaccountable
Amazon KDP made false allegation against me and unnecessary harass me. Fed up of them …
Amazon Kdp have caused so much harassment for me. Takes me almost whole day to resolve an issue with them . I have other things to do. On a repeated basis, I had to tell them that the images on one book are free to use for commercial purposes. Initially, they assured me nothing to worry about and apologised for their error, so they republished the book Then two days later they suspended my KDP account for no reason falsely accusing me of infringing copyright. For the second time, I have send proof that the images are free to use for commercial purposes. I have to go through this rigour yet again. They are an awful self publishing site. Need to sort out the glitches in their system. They have to be organised and managed effectively by keeping records of customer emails and what actions they have taken so that can refer to and not harass and disturb customers unnecessarily with messages. I am fed up of them. Customer service is very awful. Review book service is very poor. I may consider switching if they do it again. I need KDP to sell my books.
It looks like Amazon embezzled my money and intellectual work
I wrote a few books and they started selling on KDP Amazon. But for 18 months now I have not been able to get into my personal account, because I don’t receive a password on my phone (although I never set one). From the same floor, payments also stopped. I already changed phone and sim card. And numerous attempts to restore access through the support service were unsuccessful - I wrote more than 100 letters and called support 7 times.
It looks like Amazon embezzled my money and intellectual work. I ran out of energy to fight the KDP AMAZON bureaucracy
Very bad at reviewing books
Very bad at reviewing books. Even though there is no error. They will still ask you or stop you to publish. Keep asking to review even after correcting errors. Their services are very bad at all.
Scam!
OMG I can't believe I almost fell for this. I nwas seconds away from giving my credit card number to publish a journal based on a plan I saw promoted on Instagram. I spoke to the rep 5 times. The costs were expensive ($2,200) but seemed enticing as they promised a full money back guarantee. It wasn't until I looked closer (a fake Amazon logo) and realized they have no affiliation with Amazon and were providing none of their promises in a contract form.
SCAM STAY FAR AWAY
SCAM STAY FAR AWAY. I signed up with this company in January 2023, I wrote a children's book dedicated to my 2 sons who have passed away. I explained how special this book was for me and gave the exact look of characters that I wanted. They continuously sent me terrible misrepresentations. African American people are not represented well. I tried to remain positive with this company and when I just couldn't take it anymore, I asked for a refund for over a month and now I have to get a lawyer. No money, No product. STAY AWAY signed a naive writer
I started my self publishing journey…

If you fancy looking for a company that have all the skills and ample talent to leech any enjoyment and personal satisfaction from your writting endevours, then I have the company for you!
As friendly as a sheet of Asbestos and easily, as knowledagable. They have plenty of wonderful staff, poised to do everything possible at their dissposal to drag any minor hiccup into an arduous and torturous endevour.
Im speaking of course about Amazon KDP.
I have had issues with them roughly every few months and every time lose all will to live let alone pursue my writing. They recently changed all the cattegories...not a major thing. But although they ask you to pick yourself, will arbitrarily block all actions and cast your work into weeks long limbo just to finally tell you to change it. you cant change it until they reply but dont worry- they will send you multiple auto-responses of the most odious and demeaning tone.
If you do manage to get hold of someone, they know so little...It amazes me they managed to tie their shoes unaided. Amazon staff should worry more about getting to read a book before aiming for the lofty heights of publishing some. Maybe then, everything single little thing would not be such an impossible challenge for them!

No help from customer service!
Jeff B, your slacking on you pimping. Get this ship back on track!
The level of incompetence is truly appalling.
I paid Amazon Publishing approximately $2,200 to assist in publishing my book. They talk a good game, but did not deliver. I asked that my written manuscript be reviewed for punctuation and spelling. Instead, they twice attempted to re-write it. I was floored, i gave them no permission to alter my work product, but continued to play ball with them, staying very positive and hoping things would turn around. When they finally sent me something to review, it was a disaster. For instance, the word 'catechism' was transcribed as 'Catholicism', the word 'doctrine' was transcribed as 'doctoring', I could go on and on. So, finally, exasperated, I asked for at least a partial refund. I was promised $800.00 would be refunded, but it never happened. When I inquired on a couple of occasions as to the status of the refund, they suddenly went silent. A complete rip off. The level of incompetence is truly appalling. I wouldn't recommend Amazon Publishing to my worst enemy. Trust me, stay away!
Terrible out of date review teams
Although they make it easy to self publish, they completely stifle creativity and design with having too many rules for what's allowed and not allowed as far as fonts, titles, and typeset design. I was told my design (which was an integral part of my story) was not approved by their review team - all it was was a matrix of numbers on the first page.
I had to publish a version that was totally not the vision just because they didnt approve in the final hour.
complete scam and then some.
I knew it from the start when they asked me to pay before signing any documents. I luckily did not tell or give them anything. The fact they would egg me on so hard about the costs and going ahead to pay and completely skim on whatever services they potentially offered was another large red flag. Avoid at all costs.
KDP Is Not A Company I would Recommend
I would never recommend KDP. It was exciting thinking there was a way for my books to be finally seen. I could do eBook then came the day/days when I begin to experience what many have. I feel KDP is a scam company like there are a few people and many bots. The author may not make money but KDP does. The nerve to say I am keeping your outstanding royalties for a book they did not create. I feel this company is a scam. Really, how does the author know how much a book honestly made? Most people run to the BBB like me, when they are they are hurt by KDP when it should be the attorney General, FBI, FTC. The alleged scam is international. How can the CEO not know? My experience was this year. It covered approximately two or more months. What happened was wrong. No one's gift should be stolen. Even though the books are self-published, it seems the taking of the money, closing accounts, no records and keeping copies of author's works and in some cases still selling them is theft by deception, fraud and on and on and the shadowy faces/figures should have to pay and repay the authors.
