My excellent optician diagnosed a Macular Hole.
I was recommended to Mr Balaggan, Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at my local Nuffield Hospital.
Mr Balaggan carefully and throughly explained my condition and the possible outcome. He recommended a Vitrectomy. I consented to this procedure. This was carried out as soon as possible at Spire hospital Little Aston.
Mr Balaggan carried out the surgery.
I have been highly delighted with Mr. Balaggan who is a first class eye surgeon with vast experience and knowledge in his field and also a considerate and caring person.
After a follow up consultation/examination I have now been discharged.
Again I am delighted with the outcome of the surgery.
I can highly recommend Mr. Balaggan for any eye surgery/treatments.

I was treated by Mr Balaggan following a routine eye examination which highlighted a bleed at the back of my eye. Following tests, Mr Balaggan diagnosed Central Retinal Vein Occlusion, related to macular oedema, which requires ongoing Eylea eye injections.
I was panicked about the injections, but Mr Balaggan put me at ease with his calm confidence and gentle manner. He clearly explained conditions and procedures and took time to answer any questions. I have received 4 injections so far: all have gone smoothly. My eyesight has improved dramatically, thanks to his input.
Mr Balaggan is highly professional, knowledgeable and thorough. He referred me to two other specialists to find the cause of the bleeds. According to the nurses in the department, he is top of his field and fabulous to work with.
I would highly recommend Mr Balaggan for any eye related procedure.

I had been exploring whether premium IOLs were the best choice for me and my particular prescription. On hearing that my optician had not only herself opted for them but that she had chosen Mr Balaggan to perform the surgery it was recommendation enough. I then researched Mr Balaggan's professional training and experience and was impressed!
In the initial consultation Mr Balaggan professionally assessed which type of lens was the most suitable for me, was clear about outcomes and patiently and respectfully answered my questions -such a lovely man. As a result, during surgery I felt thoroughly confident in his skill and had no anxiety whatsoever. The nursing team went about their work in an equally professional, knowledgeable but friendly manner, inspiring confidence and reassurance in the process.
My vision becomes sharper each day as my brain adapts. Can't wait to have the second eye operated on.

I had some quite complex eye surgery done recently, following a not very satisfactory NHS experience. Kam Balaggan, who had been recommended by a neighbour, was very friendly, professional and thorough – as were the other support staff involved. I was kept well informed throughout and the operation went smoothly. Kam did a superb job and I would unhesitatingly recommend him to anyone needing a highly qualified and skilled surgeon.

From start to finish I had fabulous service - I have worn glasses for 51 years and can now see the wonderful colours of autumn and read well with no glasses.it is still early days but so pleased with the results and personal service from Mr Balaggan

Mr Balaggan explained exactly what was going to happen during the operation and assured me it would be pain free this made me feel relaxed and confident that all would be well.

Mr Ballagan was extremely professional at all stages of the patient journey to surgery.
I felt reassured and confident in his skill and expertise before the operation. The result was a very successful cataract operation.

Macular hole developed, previously had detached retinas due to being very short sighted (cataracts done so now barely need glasses). Also had horrendous floaters!! Mr Balaggan not only repaired the hole to a miraculous level he improved the earlier detachment repair. All floaters gone!!! Six weeks later my repaired eye, albeit still healing, is already up to driving standard! Debbie, his secretary, is lovely and highly efficient. A credit to him.

I had cataract surgery in 2012. Over the last few years the sight in my right eye has gradually deteriorated to the point where my vision was just a blur.. After several consultations with the NhS I I was informed that the implanted lens had opacified and would need to be removed and replaced. This would not be straightforward as I had also had laser YAG surgery in this eye. Two of my friends recommended Mr Balaggan to me. At my consultation he instantly put me at ease with his quiet, calm approach. He fully explained the options available to me and I opted to have the surgery to replace the faulty lens. I was very confident that the operation would be a success. Mr Balaggan and all of his team were extremely professional from the day of my consultion to my discharge day. I am very happy with the outcome and would recommend this outstanding surgeon to anybody with eye problems.

A very pleasant and highly competent ophthalmologist who is revered throughout the country,it seems.
Several fellow patients had travelled hundreds of miles to use him.
I am very lucky he is only about five miles away for me.
It is early days yet but I'm reading practically everything now very easily. Not using glasses at all. Whoop!

My optician knew that I was going to do some research to decide who to go to for my cataract surgery and she recommended Mr Balaggan as she had been following his work for some years. After looking at his website I decided to make an appointment and met with Mr Balaggan, who is a lovely gentleman. After enquiring about my lifestyle and what I hoped to get out of the surgery he patiently went through the different options with me and I decided to go for the latest premium IOLs. Mr Balaggan has now performed the cataract surgery on both of my eyes and I have great distance vision and can also read the smallest print on ordnance survey maps. Having worn distance glasses/contact lenses since the age of 14 and reading glasses/lenses for the last 20 years it’s absolutely fantastic at nearly 63 to be able to pursue all of my hobbies without the need for glasses or contact lenses. I would absolutely recommend Mr Balaggan and his team.

I was told that I had virtually lost the sight in one eye, and it couldn’t be improved at all. I was very lucky that I was referred to Mr Balaggan, and couldn’t have wished for a better surgeon. Mr Balaggan is very easy to talk to, he put my needs as priority. Mr Balaggan first repaired my detached retina, and later I had cataract surgery on both eyes. I now have amazing vision, I no longer need to wear glasses - I can highly recommend Mr Balaggan and his team.

I have just had the cataracts in both eyes treated, like most people I was not looking forward to this. But the process was so much better than I expected mainly because Mr Balaggan was someone I felt I could trust. The end result has been excellent.

My sister was referred by our optician in due to severe short sightedness, being close to not being able to drive. The service and care received has been first class. Every communication with Mr Balaggan and Debbie his secretary has been brilliant. The surgery has been more successful than we ever imagined, nothing short of miraculous!

I was referred to Kam by Ed Lyons, the service provided has been beyond expectation. Whilst I wasn't nervous at all I did expect some pain however the procedure has been totally painless and my sight has been better than 20/20 vision. He really is a miracle worker.

I recently had cataract surgery on both eyes performed by Mr Balaggan. Even before I saw him I was reassured by my optician saying "he's excellent" - which he is. At my initial consultation he explained the procedure and answered my questions. During both procedures he was very calm, patient and encouraging. I recommend him unreservedly.

I have recently had both cataracts done with Mr Balaggan and I am extremely pleased with the results. My vision is now 20/20 and I no longer require glasses. Mr Balaggan was very professional and reassuring, I was very nervous about the procedure but it was clear I was in very capable hands.

From my first consultation, throughout the cataract removal procedure and at the final consultation Mr Balaggan was calmly reassuring and positive.
He always explained everything in great detail, listened to my concerns and answered all of my queries fully, leading to a successful outcome.
