James Places. The Emporium Clitheroe.

Had a family meal at James Places The Emporium this evening. 29th December 2025. Three adults and two children. A pity that the service was very polite and obliging, although they were massively under staffed. The food was really shockingly bad. Food served without cutlery first and had to wait ten minutes for cutlery whilst the food was going cold. Seated near the front door and had to eat with coats on to counter the cold draught. You should never eat here. Microwaved food can be alright but not more than once. Chicken goujons were so dry they were virtually uncuttable. Horrible experience.

Zero customer care, zero fairness

I was given a £99 gift voucher some years ago and at that time tried to use the voucher to book a weekend getaway. On 2 occasions I tried to book one of several hotels and each one never had availability for the dates I needed. One hotel told me on the phone “don’t worry, these gift cards don’t really expire” despite the card saying use within a year. The gift card got placed to one side and was forgotten for another 3 years. Then I found it and tried to book something only to be told the £99 paid was now all lost. They wouldn’t help and you get nothing.
How callous, mean and greedy that this company gained £99 and gave back nothing.
I’d never buy any gift voucher ever, and also never ever use a Jame’s joint ever. I feel ripped off.

Don't have any dealings with James Places

My son bought me a gift voucher for afternoon tea for 2, to the value of £49.00 at Mitton Hall. I can't eat anything on the.menu and have asked for a refund but unfortunately it is against their policy to issue refunds. They did say I could use the voucher in the bar or brasserie, but there is nothing on the menus that I fancy. My bug bear is that they have nothing to lose by giving me a refund - no food has been consumed and they are £49.00 in credit. I think it's quite scandalous that you can't get a refund for something you haven't actually "purchased". I can't seem to get in touch with James Places - my messages keep going back to Mitton Hall, which leads me to understand that they are just "after" the money and are not willing to communicate with their customers. Oh well, I'll put it down to experience, but will never - or my son or any of my friends and relatives - have any dealings with James Places. A complete rip off.

I just had a very bad experience at the Royal Hotel Kirkby Lonsdale - a place I’ve stayed quite a few times over the last 30 years but never again

We were given the wrong room having booked for a special occasion and having direct confirmation via several emails from the hotel

The two staff that handled the situation were completely unprofessional and unhelpful - the village is one of my favourite places but I will avoid this place like the plague

Holmes Mill Clitheroe has signed its…

Holmes Mill Clitheroe has signed its car park over to ES Parking Enforcement.

I used to go to Holmes mill regularly but i will never step foot through the door after this.
There has always been 2 hours free parking there but at some point this has now changed and to get the free parking you have to register your car.
Me being completely unaware of this, i just parked up as i always have done, I did not see any clear or obvious signs that things had changed with the parking.
I was there for 50 minutes and then weeks later i received a £160 final demand.
I am not paying this fine and I will contest it all the way to court but i find it an utter disgrace that Holmes Mill have done this and from reading reviews on trust pilot about ES Parking its clear to see that many people have fallen foul of their dirty tricks.

I will never go to Holmes Mill ever again and i will tell as many people as possible to stay away from it.

James should be ashamed of himself!!! The people of Clitheroe have lined his pockets with riches and this is how he repays them!!

Awful customer service

Awful customer service, I received a gift card for my 50th, I haven't been able to use it until now 2 years after it was purchased due to living in London and the hotels not having available dates.
I am informed that the gift card expires after 12 months with no refund of the monies spent, to me this is stealing and theft. After contacting Ali Sayle I was informed that a Director would not allow the gift card to be used. How much more monery has been stolen on expired gift cards. DO NOT BUY GIFT CARDS FROM THIS BUSINESS AS THEY DO NOT HONOUR THEM.

I have just received the £100 fine for…

I have just received the £100 fine for not registering my car when we parked at Holmes Mill, Clitheroe. It was my first visit and I did not see any signs to say I needed to register my car, a friend who lives in the area was not aware that we needed to register the ca. We were there for 1hr 40 mins. Totally disgusting and I will not visit there again.

Rip off parking charges

Myself and my fellow Directors had a breakfast meeting at Holmes Mill back in June the meeting over ran and I went over the allotted 3 hours which can easily happen, my issue is not that there is a fine per-say its the fact that the sharp practice of the car parking company (ES Parking Enforcement Ltd) of not sending out the first fine notification and then sending the increased fine of £125 and the aggressive letter is my issue. The fact that James Places are using a company that uses these tactics says a lot about there business ethics!
Not happy and we will not be using the services of any of the groups venues going forward.
