reliable, sturdy car - perfect for winter driving in Iceland
Great company and provide very practicle vehicles for driving around Iceland. The vehicle we got was a on frills but reliable work horse and it was a little bashed, but this is the nature of this area and we were advised to take pictures of the car and all was fine. Driving in Iceland in winter is no joke, and ice rentals were very good at explaining all of this so we understood the imortance of checking weather and roads before moving anywhere. I would also reccomend taking out the mifi device which we did as it was handy and would have been even more useful in an emergency.

4x4 Dacia Duster booked.
Vehicle booked was 4x4 Dacia Duster, it drove ok but was rough around the edges. Take photos of everything when picking up. The staff were efficient and pleasant. I'm still waiting for my excess deposit even though I had purchased the platinum cover?

OBSERVE
1) OBSERVE YOU NEED TO READ ALL THE SMALL LETTERS DURING BOOKING. If you pick no insurance or “Insurance Free”, you have to pay a depositum of 350.000 ISK. If you don’t do that, you are enquired to pay an insurance, so the price of the car rental is more expensive than other car rental firm, which actually have cars at Keflavik Airport.
2) OBSERVE IT TAKES AN HOUR FROM THE AIRPORT TO GET THE CAR. Pick up and delivery of the car is NOT in Keflavík Airport as they write in your confirmation.
3) IT IS CHEAPER TO HIRE A CAR AT ANOTHER RELIABLE COMPANY.
4) THE STAFF WERE RUDE. They try to put the problem on you as a customer, where hidden information is in all the small letters. And they promised me a refund which I got a bit of, but not as promised.
5) THE CAR WAS NOT IN A GOOD CONDITION.
Good luck and hope really this company changes the confirmation letters and information provided during booking so they don’t mislead you as a customer, as they do now.
I will not need an answer from the company because I have already complained directly to them, and I will never book a car from that company again.

Almost perfect
The car was brilliant and the service was good - if 4.5 was an option then I'd have given that, but there were a couple of very minor gripes.
Firstly, they tried really hard to sell me insurance that I didn't want, and then the screen wash they use is so bad that after washing the car windscreen at night, I had to pull over and wipe it with a tissue so that I could see clearly. Other than that, I'm very happy with the service, the price I paid, and the car I received and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

Best car hire experience
I hate dealing with hire car companies but this time it was different. We were collected with no problems and taken to the depot to collect our car. The mini bus driver was very pleasant and informative. We collected the car with no problems and returned it the same. For once we didn’t get hard sold on extra insurances and then accused of random damage on the way back. The only negative thing was our window screen had so many stone chips that sometimes visibility was hindered, especially when the low sun was shining on it. I was worried when we returned the car quite dirty after 5 days use but VIP cars were obviously used to it as nothing was mentioned. Would recommend.

EXCELLENT SERVICE
From booking and receiving all the relevant information , pick up at the airport and returning the car, effortless.
Staff really friendly and helpful .
Everything explained perfectly , had an issue within 5 minutes of leaving the pick up point with the service light and passanger door not opening.
Returned it, and was immediately given a replacement no issues at all.
Car very clean , well maintained and all previous damage ( minor ) recorded and pointed out to us .
Drop off straight forward , still waiting for the deposit to go back on my credit card ( explained it could take upto 30 days ) but no issues at all.
Thanks for providing topnservice that made our Icelandic road trip unforgettable .

A lot of issues with wrong tyres
We received car with very old studded tyres even if the booking started from April the 24th (They are illegal from April the 1th).
This caused a very costly expense for fixing punctures (at a certain point we had them at all the 4 wheels at the same time). The final price for these repairs exceeded rental price.
Moreover, rental company said that tyres were excluded from insurances and refused any refund for this issue. In addition, when presented with such a problem, the desk officer was quite rude.

We would like to clarify that in Iceland, rental vehicles are legally permitted to remain on studded winter tyres beyond April 1st if weather conditions require it. Winter conditions, including snow and ice, are still very common in late April, and for safety reasons, many rental vehicles continue to operate with winter tyres during this period.
Regarding tyre coverage, as stated in our terms and conditions and explained at pickup, tyres are excluded from standard insurance coverage. This policy is consistent across most rental companies in Iceland. That said, we regret if this was not clearly understood and if the interaction at the desk did not meet our service standards — this is not the experience we aim to provide.

We booked a car through a broker who referred us to Ice Rental. Pickup from the airport was prompt, and the car was delivered promptly. There were no problems using the car. Returning the car was quick. The staff was helpful and professional.

NEVER RENT A CAR FROM THIS COMPANY
NEVER RENT A CAR FROM THIS COMPANY! They are CROOKS!
They charged us 350000 Isk (2400€) for ONE blown up door when we returned the car!!! and our full insurance was USELESS! The car wasn't worth more than 6000€....
If you have full insurance and you have a blown up door, just crash the car so you don't have to pay anything!!!
Also the staff was very cold and very rude with us!
We rented a Subaru car from them and they offered us an old car with more than 250.000Km on board, full of scratches, bends on the bodywork and poor maintained. Even the radio didn't worked...
When we returned the car, they claimed that we had a blown up door by the wind.
The car wasn't towed to them and the door could be locked without any issues!
It is cheaper to buy a second hand car and at the end of your trip, just to throw it in the ocean rather than renting a car from them.
If by mistake you have all 4 doors blown up by the wind, you're practically buying a new car for them. 4 doors x 2400€ = 9600€!!!
AVOID THEM AT ALL COST!!!

Avoid this company at all costs
Avoid this company at all costs! They “assumed” we had wind damage to the passenger side door and expected payment of over £2600 (420,000ISK) then and there with no proof at all. When asking how they came to this price, they said that this is what they “think” it would be. We asked if they can get a quote from a garage / mechanic and they were unable to do so. Simon in particular and Andrew were rude and arrogant. Surely this is not legal? This was also not written anywhere. People should not be expected to make payment just based on assumption, especially when it’s that much money. Please save yourself and do not use Ice rental 4x4 .
