Looking at 77 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Consumers frequently struggled to reach customer service, facing excessively long phone queues, repetitive automated menus, and unhelpful staff when trying to resolve urgent claims. People often described severe communication breakdowns, extended waiting periods, and unexpected claim rejections regarding property damage, repairs, and home emergencies. Some reviewers were happy with the prompt assistance they received when knowledgeable staff quickly resolved their policy concerns. Other customers noted that initial insurance setups and renewals went relatively smoothly, although these positive encounters were frequently overshadowed by subsequent service difficulties.

We tried to make a claim for damage…

We tried to make a claim for damage caused by snow last year. Worst snow we have ever had with over a foot covering the roof. They said we wernt covered because the snow wasnt deep enough!
Am in the middle of another claim now for rat infestation that isnt going well.
Insurance is supposed to give piece of mind is it not. All Halifax Emergency cover does is add to the stress.
They only charge £58/year. Charge a bit more I say but invest in customer service and actually supporting your customers when they need you

Unfair refusal of policy

Were decline house insurance because of number of claims on my property, that was mortgaged through Halifax, Surveyed and Loan approved by Halifax, and now they refuse as that same property has rain damage to the roof and water pipes that burts, (not our fault). This is after we reported a contractor as being fraudulent in claiming way more than the cost of material they dumped on our drive and left. Tiles for 28 square maters amounting to £11000. Halifax don't seem to mind the contractors over charging them but they do if you make several small claims. Stay away from this insurance they dont care about the client !!!!!

Great experience

I've read most of the reviews and fortunately for me, I had quite the opposite experience...
Had my bike stolen last week (along with many personal items) while being parked and locked on a bike stand.
Filed the proper police report (which I know is absolutely useless) and then got in touch with Halifax (called them as I wanted to make sure the claim was being raised).
Not only the attention received was absolutely excellent, but the speed which took them to resolvethe claim is something I couldn't have imagined. Took them 3 days to send a confirmation letter with the claim being resolved and paid.
I usually use this space to rant about how bad things are done in multiple businesses, but gladly today I got to write about something that actually works as expected!

I would give nil stars if I could

I would give nil stars if I could. Halifax Home Insurance inflated the premium in 2025 so I downgraded from 'silver' to 'bronze' but they nevertheless took the amount of the 'silver' premium from my bank account using my bank details that they had retained without my permission. I am still trying to get them to refund the money they wrongly took. The customer service team are useless and just read out "security" questions from a script but without actually doing any work.

On two separate occasions I have tried…

On two separate occasions I have tried to claim on the Halifax home insurance silver policy. Once for pest removal and was told they don't cover those kinds of pests, once for a leak, but they don't cover those kinds of leaks because they are of the opinion it's from wear and tear without so much as someone looking at it. Will probably cancel my policy and go with a new insurer.

AVOID appalling Customer Service and very hard to contact

Appalling customer service - if you can wait long enough on hold to speak to them (45 mins ) ..never call back when they say they will (waited nearly three weeks for them to call me back after they needed to speak to someone and I ended up calling them to be told that they'd call me back and once again never did) ..meanwhile I have a roof that hasn't been repaired for two months .
Hostile and haven't provided any progress reports or evidence of even working on the claim other than a response of acknowledgement to the claim being made.

Will be going elsewhere as soon as the claim is sorted. Entire experience has been unhelpful, negative and stressful.

Doesn't even warrant 1 star.
Impossible to speak to anyone. Used chat function and they couldn't see my claim.
Told to call the number and line days they are not taking calls and only dealings with emergencies on a priority basis.
What do I pay my monthly premium for???

Halifax, change your legal team

On 28th February, I rang Halifax to ask for legal advice, which I have on my Halifax ultimate home insurance.
I was given a number to call Arc legal assistance, who informed me that I would receive a call within 24 hours but received no call.
A few days passed, and I rang again. This time call back was within 4 hours, and I was in the appointment diary for a call. Also, I was told customer service would also send an email across to Arc solicitors.
Again, I received no call, but customer service said Arc legal assistance tried calling. Sorry, but they haven't called.
Still receiving no call from Arc legal assistance.
I rang yesterday, 6th February, explained again to customer services, again Arc legal assistance had tried calling, sorry they had not ( attached my call log ), that another email would be sent to Arc solicitors.
My Halifax ultimate home insurance policy states I have access to legal assistance 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. However, it's certainly not the case.
I chose Halifax as they've always been a reputable company and chose this particular policy to have peace of mind. As Arc legal assistance has made no contact in 7 days, I certainly don't hold out much hope of winning a court case being represented by them.
Also, I'd like to inform you that you're in breach of the agreement we both entered into. Seems like my policy is not worth the paper it's printed on!!
Please dont respond to say you can't find my policy

STORM EOWYN - Can’t even get to speak to anyone!!

To say I’m frustrated is an understatement. The recent storm took the roof and the front off my log cabin/garden room in my front garden. I made the claim online as instructed and a week or so later got a call to say a loss adjuster would be out to assess. Also that he would tell me if my claim would be passed and settled. He duly came out, the damage is indisputable as the whole front is lying flat in a pile and the roof is completely off! He took photos and of course I asked if and when my claim would be settled. He tells me it’s not up to him and he has to go back to Halifax with his report. He gave me his email address and said I should contact him for anything if required. So we’re now 6 weeks in and he has not answered several emails and when I try to call Halifax the automated service just cuts me off telling me my claim is not an emergency!! I fully understand that there must have been hundreds of claims that were emergencies however surely those claims have been dealt with by now? My policy clearly states that building covers outbuildings therefore I am sure I am covered but reading the reviews on here I’m half expecting them to try to get out of paying up!! It’s just so frustrating if they could just tell me my claim will be met I could start by getting builder in to at least clear the debris instead of having to look at this disaster every day. I’m so disgusted and disappointed with this company.

If i could give minus 1000 I would

If i could give minus 1000 I would. This is an absolute disgrace of a service, which I do not recommend to anyone. Fortunately for me I had never needed them before, however in the freezing cold my boiler packed up.....no problem I thought I've got insurance!!!! How wrong I was the Halfax could not attend for 24 hours and I'm disabled plus elderly plus I hadn't hot water or heating. So I had to get an emergency independent engineer and they sorted the problem out! So much for taking out cover!!!!

Woefully poor insurance company - avoid!

Been a claim free customer for some years now, tried to claim for Roller Garage doors after they became damaged during use, got the usual story (I knew I would) this is classed as a "mechanical failure" and we're not paying anything, your home and contents doesn't cover it (Or anything else really) etc etc - they closed the claim and suggested they had e-mailed me - which they hadn't - Best avoided - just another slippery insurance company.

Today I spoke to a member of Halifax…

Today I spoke to a member of Halifax Claim team,
June Brown.
I am in my late 70‘s and registered disabled after several mini strokes.
I was nervous and ….as it was over 15 years since we last had a claim on our house insurance. I hadn't a clue how to put a claim in for damage caused by a severe storm.
Ms Brown was incredibly helpful and kind and I highly recommend anyone seeking assistance to speak to her!
She explained everything connected with the claim patiently and in great detail …taking time for it all to
register with me!
I cant tell you how much I appreciate her compassion and understanding….qualities that made a tremendous difference to me.
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the Halifax home insurance to everyone.

Excellent claims experience!

The best measure of the insurance company is when you make a claim. I was burgled whilst on holiday in Barbados.
Firstly, I was able to easily log my claim whilst on holiday via the online chat. This enabled me to understand what evidence I need to bring back.
Secondly, Halifax called me on my return (it was a busy time due to the recent storm claims) and quickly processed/validated my claim. They even text me in advance of the call so I know it wasn’t a junk call.
Thirdly, they paid my claim within 2 weeks of the incident.
The initial cost of the policy was also very competitive .
Overall I couldn’t have wanted a better experience, excellent!
Personally, I think this is the advantage of dealing with a big established and reputable company like Lloyds Banking Group (Halifax are part of LBG).

Four floods in three years - excellent servic

Four floods in three years.
Without the help and support of our Assessor, Andy Burrows, our home would not be the warm, dry and comfortable as it is. Andy took great care to support us from a mental health welfare point of view along with listening to our concerns and acting on surveyor recommendations. This over the full four years it took to strip out the damage, dry the house and reinstate through the “Build back better” scheme which we were lucky enough to be on the pilot programme. We cannot thank, enough, Andy and the team at Halifax Insurance for his help and understanding, especially regarding the specific needs of an older property.

If i could i would leave 0 stars

If i could i would leave 0 stars. Bully tactics, took months to give me a decision.

I had a pipe leaking before going Halifax, was planning to make a claim, cancelled and had the leak fixed myself.
Joined Halifax, Found a new leak and we had flooding in 2021 due to heavy rain.
The jobs were quoted by 2 different contracts who sent me a word document and i put it into PDF. So my name shows that i created it. Hold no merit.

Lost adjuster said they will only pay less that £2k.

Was not happy put in a complaint. They sent, what it seemed like a private investigator. Asked me question that had no relevance to the claim i.e. my kids name and DOB.

Fought back and forth, he kept trying to make excuses, avoiding to paying. Finally they sent there own contractor. Who came out and said it is really bad and i was right and it will cost allot of money to fix. ( More than 2K).

They still delayed, at the end i gave up 7 months later issues got worse. I told them to forget the claim, i will be doing the works myself and that they are a complete waste of time.

The investigator decided to find something he could use to say it was a bogus claim even though he had been to my house and can see the damages. Said the quotes i send has my name, and the damp is caused by the previous leak and that i am lying and this is fraud. I replied to his bogus claim with 19 page letter and thought that was the end of that in 2021.

Found out now after searching everywhere he put a fraud marker on my name without informing me and replying to my email.

AVOID HALIFAX AT ALL COST.

I am now on having to spend more time and more money to remove this bogus Fraud claim which could take weeks or months. And there is no real help anywhere. I cant open up a basic account.

They will bully you out of paying, they will mistreat you and make you feel belittled. I have never done any fraud in my life and to be honest i never been so worried.
