I had not used hostelling international for some years and I was pleasantly surprised both in the previous booking and also in the treatment of staff and condition of the accommodations

Easy booking process, just two little points worth improving:
The room selection was a little unclear, as there were several rooms with the same name. If there was a difference, was not clear to me. I guess it was not but still it was a little confusing.
The times of the breakfast was not given, at least I couldn't find it. It would be interesting to know if you want to/have to leave the hostel early.

It is difficult to judge how effective the CO2 compensation is, but if find it very positive that they try to reduce CO2 footprint.

The manager was helpful when we phoned to say that we would be late as the Ferries to IOW were delayed.
Unfortunately the hostel was poor- no light on the stairs when we arrived so stumbling up dark stairs to find our room wasn't great. Made worse by going to the (shared) bathroom and the light going out while sitting on the loo- could not turn it back on. Fumbled in the dark back to my room. Lots of fire doors banging through the night, throughout our 3 night stay. We ended up wedging ours open just to cut the noise down. We had 1 breakfast- continental which was 2 petit pains which you can buy in a supermarket, 2 slices of processed ham? 2 slices processed cheese a sweetened yoghurt and the smallest apple possible.£6.75.The whole place had an air of meanness. The prices for self catering foods was 50p for 1 slice of bread and £1 for 1 pint of milk. The worst was the bar- he has a licence and runs a bar from 5-8pm. We returned at 9pm with fish and chips and some wine and were told we couldn't drink our own wine as it contravenes his licence, even though his bar was closed. There were notices everywhere and odd opening and closing times, times when the kitchen was open and closed, the bar opened and closed, etc etc. I've been hostelling for 50 years and thought this malarkey had gone along with doing chores before you were allowed out in the morning. The manager seemed to be intent on his own social circle and his needs. Won't be going back.

The booking system is easy to handle, for my opinion better than the national one in Germany. Quick communication. Perfect so far.

But the zoom when using the chart is not easy to use.
Therefore only 4 stars from me.

I had no concern it was easy to book got reply instead. As a matter of fact was looking to book a room at other Hostels after many hours looking for a room Hostel International was the best for my travel.I am a senior, life time membership have use Hostel International for years.

Was pleasantly surprised to find a hostel in Harvard MA while I was looking for places to stay in Google. I stayed in a hostel in North Conway NH several times and found hosteling to be a most pleasant experience. Booking was incredibly easy, and all the information I needed was provided without my having to search for it. I will certainly keep this location bookmarked for my next trip!

I've been a member of HI for a very long time now and I've always been very pleased with the booking as well as staying at various HI in the US.

Quite fast and you get a clear recipient per mail.

It was very easy to book and the confirmation was received shortly after I have booked.

It was very easy to book a room and then the payment process. As a wish, I would like pictures with the type of room reserved (some pictures available only in the home page) and details about the upfront (I didn't understand if this is refundable in case of cancelling the reservation). As well, about the HI member fee, the final price was without it and no other info about it. Luckily that I know that there's a fee and after some search I found out that it is presumed that you have a membership, otherwise you'll end up paying 3.5 per person per day instead of buying one year membership. Before payment, a simple check box saying "I have membership, otherwise I'll pay 3.5 euro per person per day or a one year membership at 10 euros". Simple. Thank you!
