Tried to book a campervan

Tried to book a campervan with several different owners. Their calendars were up to date, but when I tried booking, I was then told the campervan wasn’t available. Long winded process, and owners not following the process. Also lots of hidden cost with insurance, cleaning fees and deposits which isn’t shown until you make a formal booking. Very disappointing experience.

We aim to be as transparent as possible regarding pricing. While the daily rental rate is shown upfront, specific costs like cleaning fees (set by the owner) or insurance premiums (calculated based on the driver's profile) are added as you move through the booking steps. This is because these costs can vary depending on the specific requirements of the trip and the traveler.

We encourage all our owners to keep their calendars 100% up to date. However, as the owners are private individuals, sometimes personal circumstances change quickly. We do our best to prompt owners to update their availability, and we're very sorry that didn't work out for you.

The deposit is a standard part of the rental agreement between the traveler and the owner to cover the insurance excess. This information is available within the listing details and the terms of the platform before a payment is made.

We understand that it can be disappointing when a van you have your eye on isn't available, and we regret that the process felt long-winded on this occasion. We wish you better luck with your future travel plans.

Professional scammers.

Professional scammers.
If you want to face every kind of problem you should rent this vehicle.
This car had diesel leakage since the first day of renting (result : 400€ of diesel 1200km - smoke coming out of the engine if you try to go up a hill).
On the 4th day the dynamo stopped providing the battery (result : the car stopped operating in the middle of a highway- close to Samoni Switzerland)
Goboony disastrous support, we had full coverage insurance (result : we never got a replacement car, we where left in the middle of the highway outside a close garage with poor heating - luckily we had sleeping bags)

When we arrived back to Netherlands by train, while we rented a RV with full insurance, we ask for compensation for the whole inconvenience ( Result : The owner brought the car to a friendly garage and the mechanic invented a few problem)

Afterwards Goboony came out with the result that we have to pay Extra 300€ other than our deposit.

The only thing we got back was our train tickets and 1 night in an Airbnb that we had to find and book by ourselves as well as the train tickets.
Luckily we got these money back cause when we asked for them from the owner he insulted us in a very unprofessional way.(''I wish you came with a different altitude'' , while clapping his hands, clearly threating us)

Very disappointed, this man deserves a lawyer and someone having time to spend hunting him.

To offer some clarity on the points you raised:

When a breakdown occurs, the roadside assistance provided by the insurer takes the lead. They are responsible for assessing the vehicle and determining the possibilities for repairs or replacement transport. While we do our best to monitor the situation, the speed and availability of these services depend on the insurer's local providers.

As a platform, we act as an independent mediator between the traveler and the owner. When a dispute arises regarding mechanical issues or damages, we must base our conclusions on objective evidence. This includes the GoForm (check-in/check-out documents) and reports from professional garages to determine liability according to the rental agreement.

Regarding additional charges beyond the deposit, these are only applied if the technical evidence provided confirms they are the responsibility of the renter under the terms of the hire.

We expect all members of our community to treat one another with respect. While we are not present during physical handovers, we take reports of unprofessional or threatening behaviour very seriously when reviewing an owner’s standing on our platform.

We regret that the outcome of this case did not meet your expectations and that your journey was overshadowed by these events. We wish you much better travels in the future.

Disappointing to have my reservation cancelled with no compensation offered by Goboony

I booked my camper a year in advance, paying the deposit at the time, but the owner cancelled the reservation 8 months later. The price of booking a similar vehicle has now gone up by £200 and Goboony allowed the cancellation and was not willing to adjust the price.

While we strive for a reliable community, owners do have the right to cancel a booking due to unforeseen circumstances, such as mechanical issues or changes in personal availability. As the rental agreement is legally between the traveler and the owner, we cannot force an owner to fulfil a booking if they are unable to do so.

Goboony acts as a marketplace that facilitates bookings for many individual owners. Because each owner sets their own rates based on the season and demand, we are unable to adjust the prices of other listings or cover the difference in cost between two different vehicles. We understand that finding a replacement at a higher price is disappointing.

We hope you'll have an unforgettable time despite what I can imagine feels like a false start.

Goboony terrible post service

Making the 2 night hire booking at end of Oct 2025 was straight forward. Unfortunately, we caused minor damage to the campervan bumper which we accept. It has now been 6 months since our hire and the owner will not provide his insurance details or proceed with the repairs or respond to my or Goboony's requests. Goboony 'after sales / Claim Dept' are doing nothing to resolve and are just withholding our £1500 deposit. Think twice about using Goboony as they are great for taking money but from our experience will do nothing if there is a problem.

The deposit is held as a guarantee for the insurance excess in the event of damage. According to our terms and the rental agreement, this remains held until the total cost of the damage is professionally assessed and a resolution is reached between the owner, the traveler, and potentially the insurer.

We understand it is frustrating when an owner is slow to provide documentation or proceed with repairs. While we act as a mediator to facilitate this exchange, the responsibility to provide quotes or insurance details lies with the owner of the vehicle. We cannot unilaterally release or spend a deposit without the necessary evidence and paperwork being finalised.

Our claims team works to ensure that any deductions from a deposit are fair and backed by proof (such as repair invoices or expert assessments). While we continue to push for a conclusion in cases where an owner is unresponsive, we must follow the set procedures to ensure a legally sound outcome for both parties.

We regret that this process has been so drawn out for you. Please be assured that the deposit remains securely held and will only be settled once the correct documentation is provided.

Beware extortionate cancellation fees…

Beware extortionate cancellation fees, i had bookings for my MH but have had to sell due to illness , i cancelled all 3 bookings of my MH 4 MONTHS before the MH was to be hired , they want to charge me more than 1k in fees ! this is extortionate just to cancel bookings and possibly not legal we shall see.

The specific cancellation policy chosen by the owner is displayed on the listing page and again during the checkout process before any payment is made. This allows you to review the potential financial implications should your plans change.

When a booking is confirmed, a legal rental agreement is formed between the traveler and the vehicle owner. This agreement includes the cancellation terms, which are designed to protect the owner’s potential loss of income, as they may have turned down other bookings for those same dates.

Certain elements of the total price, such as service fees and insurance premiums, are often non-refundable once the booking is finalised. This is because the administrative work and insurance coverage are activated at the time of booking.

Because cancellation fees are a standard part of the travel industry, we always recommend that travellers take out independent travel insurance to cover unforeseen circumstances that might lead to a cancellation. In fact, we offer optional cancellation insurance on the platform.

Still waiting for a refund, 4 weeks later …

We booked a campervan through Goboony several months in advance. Within 24 hours of the booking start date, the owner contacted to say there was an issue with the vehicle and that it would need to go to the garage. He reassured us that everything should be resolved in time.

However, after a stressful 24 hours—during which we were preparing to travel with family and had already prepaid campsites—he called us just one hour before collection to inform us that the campervan was not roadworthy.

This last-minute cancellation caused significant stress and disruption, especially as we had arranged to meet family and had non-refundable plans in place. To make matters worse, Goboony’s customer support is not available at weekends, meaning there was no realistic opportunity for them to help us find an alternative vehicle in time.

We were due to begin our booking on Saturday 21 March, and we are still waiting for a refund. Despite contacting Goboony multiple times, and being told last week that the funds would be returned the following day, we have yet to receive anything. After numerous follow-up emails, the lack of response and ongoing delays have been extremely frustrating.

Overall, this has been a very disappointing experience, with poor communication and unsatisfactory customer service throughout.

While we expect owners to provide a roadworthy vehicle, unforeseen mechanical failures can unfortunately happen at the very last moment. In these instances, the owner is responsible for informing the traveler as soon as possible. Because the rental agreement is between the traveler and the owner, we are reliant on the owner’s communication regarding the vehicle's status.

We understand that issues on weekends are particularly challenging. We are always looking for ways to improve our community support to better assist travellers when things go wrong outside of standard hours.

When a booking is cancelled by an owner, the traveller is always entitled to a full refund. Once a refund is triggered in our system, it can take several business days for the banking providers to process the transaction and for the funds to appear in your account. We regret any frustration caused by the time this has taken.

We sincerely regret that we weren't able to turn this experience around for you and your family.

It was really easy to use the search tool and navigate around the site and look at the options. Easy to contact the campervan owner and easy to book. And no hidden costs.

The website is easy to navigate, booking process is clear and costs are reasonable. Booking isn't till September so I can't confirm if its seamless end to end, but up to now its been a great way to book.

Cancellation could be an issue

Having booked a motorhome in December for a trip in April, I received a cancellation from the owner a week before the trip. I appreciate this was unavoidable as the vehicle had broken down and couldn't be fixed in time, and I did manage to find a replacement (albeit 30 miles further away) but this wouldn't be an issue with those rental companies that have a fleet of vehicles, and so may be an issue.
The vehicle we did rent was great, the service from the owner excellent and friendly and the hand over and return were all, professionally done.
I think the breakdown of the original vehicle is likely to be an isolated occurrence and so would have no hesitation in using them again and recommending to others.

An awful experience—this will be our first and last time using Goboony.

The van we hired was in a dangerous condition, despite the owner claiming otherwise. The company has been unhelpful throughout; I have called multiple times during their stated customer service hours, yet received no meaningful support.

Responses have been slow, and the issue remains unresolved.

The explanation below is of no help, and no personal apology email or reply has been sent.

I would recommend using Indie Campers as I've used them before and the service and reliability is far superior.
