Unreliable, no customer service

You can hardly call this a cleaning service as they don’t fulfil any appointments. I booked a one-off clean with the view of booking them regularly. The cleaner didn’t turn up and I received an email 1.5 hours after the appointment start time. They are extremely unresponsive and couldn’t reschedule the appointment until 2 weeks later.

They also don’t have a direct line that customers can call. Customer service is non existent. I would suggest taking your business elsewhere.

On this occasion the booked cleaner reported that they were unfortunately unwell and so was unable to attend at the time booked. This client was extremely unlucky here and a manager has been in contact to try to personally rebook the client but unfortunately they have decided to cancel their booking with us. Regarding getting in touch by phone, although we do not have a direct phone line, we do have an instant online chat which can be accessed via your online booking on the website.
For the benefit of the reader; we always endeavour to ensure bookings go off without a hitch and we have stringent measures in place to ensure this. More than ninety five percent of clients and cleaners are happy with the outcomes we provide. From a customers' perspective when things have not worked out, in consultation with cleaners, we have developed the following top tip checklist which you should consider when booking to ensure everything goes well;
1. Book enough time, a cleaner can only do so much cleaning in a fixed period of time. If not enough time is booked your expectations of the results or the time for future bookings should be adjusted accordingly.
2. Provide the appropriate cleaning materials, this one is obvious. The most common issue is expecting your cleaner to be able to clean an oven without a proper oven cleaner, not going to happen.
3. The level of cleaning required and getting into a regular routine might mean, for recurring bookings, a gradual improvement while the first few cleans are carried out. For example a floor which hasn't been cleaned for two months will require far less effort when it's being cleaned every week vs the initial sessions while things are brought up to standard.
4. Your cleaner is working in a new place and your home is therefore a new place of work for this person. Make them feel welcome, if you're working at home get out of their way, and let them carry out the job they're so good at doing, no need to follow around or micro-manage. Providing a checklist can help though.

Very disappointing experience

I was really disappointed with this company. The cleans (when they turned up) were brilliant. But I would get last minute cancellations quite often and the cleaners were just really unreliable. A couple of them also didn't seem to know how it worked and thought I was meant to pay them, not the company. But my main issue is the company themselves and their complete lack of communication and transparency. They assured me in earnest that the last cleaner they assigned me would be my regular. Then at around 8pm the night before she was due (when I'd spent the evening running around tidying up), they emailed me acting like that was never the case! Not the first time they had done that either. I just found it all to be very disingenous on their part and to be honest it upset me more than the unreliability of the cleaners themselves. When I called them out on it, they told me that they were having lots of problems finding reliable cleaners in my area which just felt like a weak excuse. Especially since I am now with another company that doesn't have that problem (but charges a bit more and is transparent about what their cleaners are paid, so I'm guessing the conditions are just better). In any case, I am a neurodiverse, working mum and was struggling to maintain my household under the various challenges and pressures, the whole point of getting a cleaner was to take that stress away and I'm sorry to say that all this company did was add to it.

DO NOT USE GLEAM

We had absolutely horrible service from this company, do not use them! We booked their "Specialist" service for an end of tenancy clean. Given Gleam's response below I would really like to emphasise that we used GLEAM'S OWN RECOMMENDATION of 1 hour per room and even added extra time on to be safe!
Firstly the cleaner turned up an hour later than booked with no communication, making us late for work.
Then right after we moved out we had an independent checkout report which commented on the terrible state of the cleaning service provided. The oven was in a shocking state, there were streaks all over the sink and the hob and the shower didn't look like it had been cleaned at all. The communication from the company since has also been terrible, telling us we have to pay for the cleaner to come back and complete the job we already paid for! DO NOT USE

Have had such a good experience with…

Have had such a good experience with Gleam recently and I cannot do anything but commend the cleaners and customer service team.

I had to book a moving out tenancy clean after one of the other outfits let me down. I contacted Gleam and they were responsive, got in touch to understand my requirements and talked me through the online booking process. The cleaners showed up punctually and did a great job and at a lower price than I had originally booked with the other company. Thanks again Gleam for a job well done, spotless!

Booked my first clean with Gleam on Friday, 1 hour in, no comms, no one turns up, I try and ring Gleam but couldn't get through - they finally responded to my email confirming nobody is showing and they would like to offer me their 'premium service' (no discount or free hours). Premium service entails handpicking their 'top-rated' cleaners. Booked for the following working day, for the same to occur again. We are sorry that after following up with you directly on this matter, we were unable to resolve this to your liking. NB. On this occasion the booked cleaner reported that they were unfortunately unwell and so was unable to attend at the time booked. This client was extremely unlucky here and a manager has been in contact to try to personally rebook the client but unfortunately they have decided to cancel their booking with us. Regarding getting in touch by phone, although we do not have a direct phone line, we do have an instant online chat which can be accessed via your online booking on the website.
For the benefit of the reader; we always endeavour to ensure bookings go off without a hitch and we have stringent measures in place to ensure this. More than ninety five percent of clients and cleaners are happy with the outcomes we provide. From a customers' perspective when things have not worked out, in consultation with cleaners, we have developed the following top tip checklist which you should consider when booking to ensure everything goes well;
1. Book enough time, a cleaner can only do so much cleaning in a fixed period of time. If not enough time is booked your expectations of the results or the time for future bookings should be adjusted accordingly.
2. Provide the appropriate cleaning materials, this one is obvious. The most common issue is expecting your cleaner to be able to clean an oven without a proper oven cleaner, not going to happen.
3. The level of cleaning required and getting into a regular routine might mean, for recurring bookings, a gradual improvement while the first few cleans are carried out. For example a floor which hasn't been cleaned for two months will require far less effort when it's being cleaned every week vs the initial sessions while things are brought up to standard.
4. Your cleaner is working in a new place and your home is therefore a new place of work for this person. Make them feel welcome, if you're working at home get out of their way, and let them carry out the job they're so good at doing, no need to follow around or micro-manage. Providing a checklist can help though.

I have been using Gleam for a while now…

I have been using Gleam for a while now and have always received good cleaners who arrive on time and do a great job. I use the one time service as that works best for me and although a little more expensive, it suits my irregular schedule as I can't commit to the same day and time each week. The service works well and they try to send the same cleaners I've had before if they are available. There has been an odd occasion where a cleaner can't make it due to TfL works or illness, but that is to be expected with a service such as this, in any case the 'Gleam Team' are always at hand to reorganise if anything goes wrong and have always been very polite and helpful. Special shout out to Izzy who is always fantastic.

Substandard

I booked a one-off clean with Gleam for an event I had planned for in my house with the intention of continuing with the service. However, when the cleaner arrived, he was quite personable but, at the very least, his work was substandard. Luckily, I booked I had a day's grace between when the house was 'cleaned' and the day when the event was due to take place. I duly booked another cleaning company who 'put things right'. I will be interested to see if someone from Gleam responds to this comment because I didn't receive a response to my message of concern I sent to the company after my poor experience. The reason why I'm commenting now is that I received a referral incentive from the company...all without a response to my original concern.

My comment reflects, genuinely and earnestly, my experience with this company. I am simply not in the business of fabricating stories in either my professional life or my personal life. I booked the cleaner for 3.5 hours to clean 4 rooms which, incidentally, were not "heavily soiled" - I had been away for 2 months and had returned the day before to a significant amount of dust. When the cleaner arrived, he asked for specific (I'm not sure if this translates as 'appropriate') cleaning products which I do not normally use at home. He accompanied me to the shop where we purchased the products. That took a total of 15 minutes. When we returned, he made up the time and I paid him extra in cash. He worked for a total of 3.5 hours. I used one single email address when I made contact with them so, logically, if I received a single, one-off service from this company, how could I possibly have used multiple email addresses? It makes no sense. On the same night that I received this company's services, I duly filled out an automated response form which, I imagine, would have been automatically returned to them. I simply cannot be held accountable for any failings in their IT systems. The email account I use to post reviews on Trustpilot and Google is my business account, therefore, to be absolutely candid, I have two email accounts. In accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018, I asked the company to remove my data from their records because of their 'less than helpful' email to me. My experience should not stop you or any other person or persons from commissioning the services of this company.

They seem to have used various email addresses and names on a number of accounts which may explain any confusion here. On trying to follow this up after this review they have requested us to remove all of their details. On checking in with their top rated cleaner regarding the issues raised, they have reported that given the high level of soiling found at the property, minimal amount of time booked and lack of cleaning products provided, they did their best in the amount of time allowed.

Ignored my damage complaint - terrible, do not use

I've been using Gleam for nearly a year now and have had a few issues along the way. The main one is that on 20 January I reported damage to my TV, sent in photos of the damage that was caused by the cleaner when she wiped the TV down, her jewelry causing scratches in swipe shapes across the screen. My damage report was acknowledged and allegedly escalated to management for review. I did not hear back. I chased multiple times, and flagged it every time I spoke to them via chat for other reasons, and still, no one has come back to me at all. I'm incredibly angry about it and find that this company has incredibly slippery shoulders.

Another example of poor service was one of my early cleaners left 30 mins early of her 3 hour period (having arrived 40 mins early, but I was counting time in the house from arrival), and they tried to tell me that she hadn't cut the time short. Luckily, I have doorbell footage to show when the cleaner arrived, and left, so they were unable to dispute it, but I found the attitude shocking. I've had multiple occasions where cleaners haven't showed up, or have been late, and I've received zero gestures of goodwill or compensation from the company for the inconvenience.

On the whole, I've found the quality of the cleaners with Gleam quite poor and based on my experience with the damage in particular, I would absolutely not recommend Gleam to anyone.

I have been using Gleam for just over a…

I have been using Gleam for just over a year now and I book a one time every month or so. Although they offer only weekly or fortnightly ie. not monthly, booking a one time every month or so has worked well for me and also given me flexibility on the day and time I get the clean. Although you are not guaranteed the same cleaner every time with one times, it seems like I usually have the same three or four cleaners coming over the course of the year and they have all been excellent cleaners. I work at home and they always work discreetly and efficiently and I have been really impressed with the quality of service combined with the reasonable pricing. I usually leave a decent tip also which I think has helped with the same cleaners accepting my one time bookings when I make them. I would recommend this service to my friends.
