Sounds great until you have to make a claim, then it turns out it's utterly useless... After a number of years being insured as a digital marketing freelancer, Dinghy and ARAG have decided that my claim isn't covered as it comes under a clause saying that it doesn't cover 'internet services that have been supplied by your, or have been tailored to your requirements' (abbreviated).
That begs the question "what am I actually insured for?"... this is a few months in and I'm still waiting for clarification from Dinghy. Meanwhile they continue taking payments. Customer service won't provide details of how to make a complaint, eventually they made a complaint on my behalf but missed the point entirely of what the problem in. Months down the line and that still isn't resolved. Meanwhile I've had to pay the claim out my own pocket - I'd have been better off saving the hundreds I've spent on insurance with Dinghy.
Dinghy have stopped accepting new policies now, so it's unfortunately too late to warn people to avoid them, but I'll be steering clear of their recommended insurers!
My policy wasn't renewed automatically…
My policy wasn't renewed automatically despite being sent an email by Dinghy that said it would be. When I called to check on my policy I was told that auto renewals haven't been happening and that Dinghy is exiting the UK market this month. Quite disappointing as they have been great until now.
Website issues cause concern
The current website issues and lack of auto renewal, despite messages saying this will happen, has caused concern. I would expect to have received more information - luckily I rang and checked what was happening, otherwise I would have been uninsured.
Dinghy understands freelance roles like 'Video Editor'
Dinghy seems to understand the freelancer roles in creative media like other insurers just don't. For example my role, video editor, does not even exist in the lookup of job types for most insurers or comparison sites so I stopped at the first page. By contrast Dinghy has relevant policy cover features which show they understand the requirements of the PSC Ltd company or sole-trader freelance. Someone who works from home and sometimes in a client's office on their own kit.
Easy to register and get a quote
Easy to register and get a quote. Very easy to sign up I found the whole process quick and professional.
Clear and concise
Really simple and straightforward. I feel in control and can understand where my money is going and what it's covering. Very clear, and the dedicated personalised insurance page to link to my website and share with clients etc is a really nice touch.
Parent Co. ARAG really bad reviews
Such a shame as this could have been a good solution for freelancers. BUT started off with nightmare trying to set up account when site was down. Then a few months in I wanted to put account on hold as not working - which is the main selling point - but they still take a fee regardless for 'potential' claims from previous employers. Then could not get into my account - held in loop of emails, issues with website are BAD. Now looking at parent company ARAG, the reviews are really consistently bad. Lost confidence - Im off. Prefer to spend more for a reputable Insurer.

Perfect insurance for my copywriting business!
I love how easy it was to set up insurance through Dinghy.
The insurance they provide is affordable and perfect for me as a freelancer.
The dashboard is easy to navigate, and I like the fact that you can pause your insurance during periods when you're not taking on work.
I'd definitely recommend Dinghy to anyone!
Astonishingly quick and easy experience
Astonishingly quick and easy experience and I love the fact that I can pause the insurance any time. I needed equipment insurance as well so it was killing two birds with one stone. I rarely do review but this had to be said : overall a grudge purchase made into something pleasant and positive by great design and a fab product.

Amazing service from Jordan.
I have been with Dinghy for a couple of years now after being recommended by a friend. I have never had to make a claim until earlier this month. I filed the claim on 17th June and didn't get a response from the underwriters Allianz until today 21st June which was rather frustrating in an urgent situation. I understand this isn't Dinghy's fault though and Jordan at Dinghy is a real credit to the company, helping me to ensure my claim is resolved and always being quick to respond to any emails and queries over the matter. He has helped to turn a bad experience into a good one. I am looking forward to my claim being resolved.

Very quick and easy to get a quote
Very quick and easy to get a quote, which was considerably cheaper than many of the alternatives I researched. So easy to get the account set up.
From promise to farce
A promising app and insurance product/broker that worked fine and enabled me to do business has dwindled into farce. With the site taken down without notice for maintenance it has changed: but not for the better.
I have paid so much of my own money, that I have earned and paid tax on, on starting my new business to make sure I have the best chance of success. I have invested a lot of money into Dinghy’s services and I know wish I hadn’t. The service is so, so bad. Not responsive to queries and no communications about its most recent - and at the time of writing current - website disaster which has meant a potential loss of business for me as I can’t draw down on any documentation.
I like to support innovative, disruptive businesses as I am now running one myself, but this insurer is turning out to be a terrible risk for my business and a long running headache for me.
Anyone know any insurance for that?

Appalling customer journey
Appalling customer journey - website down, email links down, no easy access to customer service, needs addressing. Hopefully I will not need to claim!

ARAG is the legal assist 'engine' and Dinghy is just the 'front piece' that attracts customers.
Indeed. On paper and on-boarding, Dinghy is a dream. But if you REALLY need to use the services behind what you pay for such as legal services - then that is when things fall apart for Dinghy.
I'm not sure if Dinghy informs the potential customer that they use ARAG to provide Legal Assist/Legal Services but I, of course, only found out after I signed up. Trustpilot reviews of ARAG: arag.co.uk is quite the opposite of the good trustpilot reviews of Dinghy.
ARAG is the legal assist 'engine' and Dinghy is just the 'front piece' that attracts customers. And Dinghy does a very good job of attracting new customers. But I had such a horrific experience with ARAG and I added a 1 star review in trustpilot. If only one is allowed to leave 0 star.
So unfortunately, when you pay for DINGHY coverage - you are in essence paying for ARAG.

Really easy to buy my insurance and that is all cool. What isn't is the volume and frequency of subsequent communications.
I cant list you as Spam as I will at some point need something from you but turn it off will you.
